I just found this show. I cant even begin to say how absolutely I love this concept. Two smart guys advancing science concepts with 3 funny people. Genius!
If Elon Musk became a lazy bum like Homer Simpson, he'd be "Neil deGrasse Tyson"
@@samsun01 bleh, these people are intolerable.
@@samsun01 Except elon is a bumbling idiot
They do it in a duo now, check out the Startalk channel.
Try the infinite monkey cage as well
Jim Gaffigan is so awesome.
"I'm only exploring Mars to pay for college." -Stripper Rover Curiosity.
lol
The struggle is real lol
Best. screen name. ever... Stripper Rover Curiosity.
where do we put our money?
I'm Majoring in Quantum Orbital Psychology. It's a Master's.
What a lovely, entertaining, funny way to learn about science. Whoever thought of this needs a raise immediately! 👏
What a great combo of personalities
I love watching Neil's moustache get angry.
This was one of the greatest episodes of a talk show ive ever seen. Such an awesome balance of good comedy and intriguing scientific subject matter, really amazing how they all pulled this off. They are all geniuses in their own fields :)
I have been living under a rock because this show rocks! Jim Gaffigan makes everything wonderful!
sarah silverman is out of her leauge
@@bobgray1310I would do her so bad
When Sarah said " i bet you get so much Pudding" and then calls out that she was told not to cuss.. this is why she is one of my favorite comics of all time. Just pure 100% classic Sarah.
you laugh and learn... its the best
Everyone always asks how do we get people excited and engaged about science. This video shows the perfect formula, two scientists and two to three intelligent comedians together talking about science. It's genius and takes subjects that might be abit dry and makes them very entertaining
First time I've seen this. Loved seeing two extremely intelligent scientists counting on their fingers!!!!
Yea it gave some hope for me
Jim Gaffigan is so awesome.
“Can I ask you a question? Mars is red. How do we know that’s not all blood?” The great thing about Jim Gaffigan is, that joke is all about the cadence, timing, and delivery. It shouldn’t even be funny yet it kills the room 😂
Eugene mirman is the shit. he kept the whole thing alive yet gets no credit on the title or the coments. he's also really Good on bobs burgers. Eugene you rock!
zx10 and a braaap agreed
And on Archer as Cecil.
Honestly Eugene and Jim are Kings of comedy in my opinion
What is the difference between "he is the shit " and "he is shit" ?
@@alainmaitre2069 The first one is praise, the second is criticism
The jokes and expressions of Eugene are priceless. So bad we missed the fallen cup at 13:58 XD.. OMG!! At 14:10 he just realizes he dropped it and looks at Sarah and is about to show her and then he keeps it to himself. LOL
Dynamite format, combining science and comedy. I'd like to see serio-comic discussions on lots of topics. This was handled well by both the professors and the comedians. Never heard of Eugene Mirman, and now I like him.
Lol that nasa dude was not having it.
Love his comic books!
I think he would have been better about it if it wasn't hot. The sweat is just dripping off of him and neil
I think hes from JPL, PASADENA
Neil DeGrasse Is a Rockstar
Is he drunk here?!?
hes a fool
If being disrespectful and talking over your guests is what you consider a rock star I guess I can't stand him
Jim: “Mars is red. How do we know that’s not all blood?” That question shouldn’t be so funny, but I died laughing.
Haha Eugene Mirman is as brilliant at his feild as neil is at his! By far one of the most clever guys I've seen.
This one is the Best one I've seen so far! I've never laughed so hard listening to a science lecture.
The guy with the hat looks like he has these glasses with the nose xD
I see it lol
😂😂
That's called a "Groucho Marx disguise" . . .
I couldnt stop thinking elvis costello
Foucauld Dubern he's a hipster cosmotalosgist
This format is BRILLIANT!!!! So much fun and learning made accessible!
Jim Gaffigan, Sarah Silverman, and Eugene Mirman Talking With Neil DGT..OMG GREATEST THING ON RUclips YET!!!
"SHE'S GONNA KILL HERSELF!!! CLAP!!!" - Best improv in a split second ever!!
came for Sarah Silverman, stayed for Jim Gaffigan
Darkened Wings I "came" for her too
4:29 24:39
Need a cigarette?
Darkened Wings Jim Gaffigan is my favorite comic and Neil has taught me so much. I could listen to both of them for hours.
Cu?m for Sarah Silverman all the time
this is the best video I have seen in months, thank you so much!! What an amazing pannel
More of these please
Ok. This is for all the over excited nerds, that keep rambling about the comedians. This format is designed, ingeniously i add, for the 90% of Americans that are ignorant to the world of science. Neil deGrasse Tyson is using this as a tool to inspire and educate the part of the human race that is holding us back from furthering our future endeavors. He is the only scientists I know of, other than I guess Bill Nye, trying to bridge the gap. He should be applauded over his efforts, not spewing nerd rage over Sarah Silverman's pussy jokes. If you have a problem with this, you're part of the problem, not the solution.
Agreed 100%
I liked the video a lot but honestly I feel sorry for Dave Grinspoon (the NASA Geologist), cause I think this event might have been an overload for him. Not every scientist can be great with audiences like Tyson or Nye. Or good at handling a conversation where they get interrupted a lot.
So true man. So much respect for NDT and others for trying different ways to educate people. All a fire needs is a few sparks and it will eventually ignite and burst to flame. Neil is the flint!
It can work better with a better choice of comedians. Lose the Eugene guy for starters.
badavis84 I think they need the Eugene guy. He lets them use his stage? Or he finds the comedic talent. IDK. He has something to do with it
Gotta love when Neil's moustache gets angry ! xD
Big star talk fan! Excited to be able to watch the interviews live!!!
There needs to be more of these. Science + Comedy = Awesome
Gaffigan sound like the sharpest comedian on the stage. I love his stand up obsevations as long as he doesn't over emphasize the "voice" he does.
Gaffigan is killing
I must be a nerd. I watched this video in a Jim Gaffigan search and liked it! Not a Sarah Silverman fan, but this was good. My award to quickest wit goes to Eugene though!
This was one of my favorite episodes. Keep it up!
This is awesome show :D
When Neil said, “What’s up with that.” I thought he was going into the Saturday Night Live routine. "What’s up with that!, what’s up with that!"
This is so awesome that I had to find it and watch again....and again...Thanks!
My favorite Star Talk!!
Mars is populated entirely by robots.
sorry, haven't been keeping up, are we talking about the awesome kind that fight monsters, or the lame, sciency, kind?
dudethedestroyer and earth bacteria, maybe (in the robots)
The best part about this (minus all the fascinating science) is how the scientists are more entertaining than the comedians.
I'm a fan of sarah silverman too :D
@@EngForArabs talk about yourself lol your comment displays everything you wrote about
Eugene Mirman is a BEAST of comedy!!
I watch everything Jim, Sarah and Neil do....thank you for saving me time with this video.
You know Neil deGrasse Tyson is the smartest guy on stage because he's also the one sweating the most. His brain is burning thru way more energy to be smart AND funny AND moderate the discussion.
you don't have to be super duper smrt to be nervous.
+Rup Tratin IMHO NDT doesn't look nervous. Just sweaty. Not exactly his first rodeo. But we're guessing aren't we?
I get nervous around that many white people too, it's nothing to be ashamed of.
Strange fact about you, but good to know. You may just be ignoring the fact that NDT, as a scientist, hangs around with nothing but white people all the time. Not replying to you anymore.
Oh I see, so "as a scientist" is your code for "he's too civilised to be around other black people"? Only white people can be scientists?
What about famous black scientists like leading astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, for example?
Why doesn't Eugene do Star Talk anymore? I really like his wit.
Neil deGrasse Tyson is one of the few Scientists who is able to take on the public media and looks good on it. There are only a few who are able todo this, most scientists sadly fail extremely on TV or any other medias.
How have I not seen this before today???? Two of my favorite things: cosmology and comedy.
What a dream come truuu!! Neil, sarrah, annd jim together on one stage! Luv u neil!
Eugene is so funny
I looked up DeGrasse Tyson on Wikipedia and learned he'd attended one of the same NYC elementary schools I did. No guff, we actually had a mini-planetarium in the basement, and I wonder if it existed when he had attended that school. We also had the occasional trip to the Hayden planetarium as kids as a day trip. I always remember the excitement about math and science I had as a kid, and am so thankful for teachers and professors in my life who shared that skill and excitement with us kids. Thanks, Neil.
Absolutely HILARIOUS!!!! 🤣
GET ON IT SCIENCE!!!
I want that on a t-shirt...
Gaffigan and Mirman interrupted just the right about of times, and brought the funny big time. Silverman was respectful and pretty funny too. People on the comments love to piss and moan because they hate their lives I guess.
These fora (plural in Latin for Forum) present complex scientific topics in terms the layman can understand - and produce the kind of questions that most people would be afraid to ask aloud for fear of being laughed at. We need more of this!
we need more of this.. (without continuous interruption)
Yea a lot of people hate their lives.
@@zanzibar6508 Please find a more humanistic way to express your confusion about life. We're listening and willing to share ideas about humanity.

Best fffffffriendly talk show evarrrrr! Can't wait to see it live! !
I'm watching this because I love Jim and Sara. I don't know anyone else.
HAHAHAHA!! "Land on an astroid and eat it"! LUUUULZ

this was incredible! i am a huge fan of stand up comedy and the cosmos, never did i think the two would cross paths.
I don't understand why people are complaining, this has just the right combination of interesting facts and comedy. Four stars!
Is the guy to the right of Sarah Silverman the voice actor for Gene on Bob's Burgers?
Yes
+Melanie Jecker Do you mean on her right, or your right... hmmm?
billder999 touche...lol
yes that's Eugene Mirman
I like him but I don't like that show. I find it very annoying.
Gaffigan got the biggest laugh with: ``It`s not funny, she`s dead.``, at 13:48.
Killed by a Martian
I've been to cooler places. Lol
This Star Talk is the best thing ever
Awesome guys. Keep em coming do it again
OMG! I knew mars' rotation time and Tyson didn't! I am so proud. I can officially retire from the internet.
Anybody who read the Kim Stanley Robinson Trilogy should... ;)
and now we landed another one, and have 4k images of mars
I love this session, learning and laughing about Mars its great. Thanks to Mr. Neil for making this kind of talks happend, we (humanity) need more of this space culture delivered in a funny way, humor and science its just awesome. Cheers from Mexico.
Daniel.
I love this!!! Sooo much funny and sooo much education!!! Thank you!!
They need some air conditioning in these meetings
Stage lights are a brutal
there is water on mars, like flowing water i mean. but they didn't discover it untill after this video was filmed
Best panel ever!!
This was amazing. I need more of this in my life. =)
Do those rocket scientist know about the invention of air conditioner?
Nah shut up, this was great, all of the panel members were excellent.
Grinspoon and deGrass hold up well to comedic feedback. The talk about metric numbers at 14:23-15:50 including deGrasse out in space was memorable. Smart of him to talk in imperial numbers thereafter. Sagan was an advocate of unmanned exploratory missions for best use of limited funding. "We're not talkin' just crazy people."
Oh man, that was so good. Eugene freaking slayed.
Eugene with the Donald Trump call out in 2013 haha @ 33:20
this is hilarious
So great loved the podcast, and seeing video is even better, thx
Damn it must have real fun being there in person watching these comedians tear it up
Does that guy in the grey voice gene from Bob's Burger!?
You are indeed correct.
Its funny seeing NDT getting corrected and made fun of by comedians who are probably 1/10th as knowledgeable but equally smart.
+Ben H Interesting distinction. I never thought of it like that, even though I'm a Gaffigan fan (and an NDT fan).
Excellent editing! Thanks.
Great talk. Learned a lot.
wow this is so brilliant fucking science and live comedy
Viking 1, 2, Sojourner, Spirit, Opportunity findings =Mars sucks. Curiosity findings = Quantifying the suckiness.
oh man by far my most fav star talk!!!
science and comedy my favourite grouping..
Where is this interview being done, on the sun? They're all sweating bullets, lol.
The headlights are pretty hot. Also, being on the sun will probably burn your sweat glands before you could sweat at all
Napoleonicus
Fair enough, but it was a play on words as they are talking about the stars and planets and the sun is a star. Also if you want to take my comment and present a logical analysis them being on the sun and their sweat glands drying up would be the last of their worries don't you think?
:P cheers
No it's already been established that this is an interview being done on the surface of the sun where it is approximately 10,000 degrees. Try to pick up on social queues and you're already late to the party Napoleonicus beat you to it at least he was the first one to say it now you're just boring me with your plagarism
I don't even know what to say to that. If you didn't get it then it's not my fault. Not understanding something someone writes does not make the person who wrote it stupid. Some might argue that in comparison to the person who wrote it, it is you who is dumb. Really all you had to do was read a bit further down where someone already made your mistake. Oh well you know for next time, don't read half of something and then try to troll on it you might look dumb as a consequence.
All I could think of was HOT POCKETSSS
I didn't know what to expect, but this absurd little band of hecklers added so much to this. And this guy's mission sounds cool.
This is what happens when you get 5 comedians on the same science panel... Grinspoon and Tyson are already jokesters, and having 3 pro comedians to wind them up just put it in overdrive. Everyone just took turns for a gap to throw in their best jabs. They may not have gotten through a lot of exposition, but it was highly entertaining :)
I would have liked this better had more of the comedians' interruptions been more relevant to what the scientists were trying to say, [instead of] throwing them off of their train of thought in typical ADHD fashion. Though they did have a few good ones esp. at the beginning, but those were kinda tee-ball setups anyway -- You almost couldn't miss them, that is, if you were paying attention.
This isn't the video to watch if you really want to learn something. The panel is ferocious about inserting their "funny" one-liners that at the halfway point, I had to turn to something else. I guess I just wasn't in the mood for a comedy show that used topics in science as the target of the jokes. Usually, with panels involving Neil deGrasse Tyson, you can expect a certain amount of levity, and that's fine. But, when the jokes and ad libs become the center point of the discussion, it's better to tune this in when you're in the mood for rather low-brow humor.
When Sarah Silverman dropped her mic, I was hoping it was for good. OH SNAP. Just kidding, she isn't that bad. I agree with you that most of the jokes were shallow and didn't offer much in the way of profound thought.
The target audience is not for the intelligentsia. Its trying to appeal to a larger audience. This could actually be a hit on prime time tv. Neil has long lamented about the ignorant electorate. We need to educate the masses about all things science. What better way is there. I submit this is spot on. Love it. You go Neil!
NGT is my hero!
Disagree.
But then again I wasn't watching this to be informed as a main goal.
I DID learn a thing or two about Mars, though.
And it was funny, good puns, etc.
I'd watch it again!
have a sense of humor jesus
***** Do you feel like laughing or actually learning something? This video feels like some kind of comedy routine, which is really just fine with me. I enjoy laughing as much as the next person; however, it's not the piece you want to play if you want to learn some serious science. Are you unable to make the distinction?
I really enjoyed how Jim Gaffigan stared at Neil for the longest time with his microphone to his chin as if to say "Neil... look. Look. It goes here."
So brilliant to add comic releif to discussions like this. Its like combining art with science, biology and so on. Taking something most people would find boring and adding the complete opposite makes for a very e tertaining and informative discussion.
I cringed through 10 minutes of the video watching a group of comedy rejects on stage. Neil with his fake nervous laughter sweating bullets was completely obvious that he was uncomfortable.
Wow! A lot of Sarah Silverman hate, people need to relax she's not that bad.
No....she is just not funny or interesting at all.
Most people are...
FreeeeBeer but she is hot!
007m10 She's hot when she's trying to no be not hot... if that makes sense.
loved Sarah, loved the playful science show. I bet a few folks learned something too. Bravo Mars mission; looking forward to the reports.
I like the idea of bringing comedians to science shows, it attracts more people.
this is really creative. love it
