How do you use astrophysics (or physics in general) in your everyday life?
While driving, I accelerate at the bottom of a valley between two hills, and coast over the top. This was always reminiscent of how it is more efficient for a spacecraft to accelerate at perigee, when it is moving fastest. I'm curious if this is actually a more efficient way to drive.
Physics is our everyday life. Entropy is an inescapable fact.
Idk, but your awesome Neil so I watch, fascinated. Waiting for the 🤯
All the time! To understand small or big phenomenons surrounding me. Physic is us. Take gravity, I'm currently reponding to its force by standing attached to the ground -- AMAZING !

Neil may be the only podcast host who brings people to listen him talk.

I have never, NEVER even dreamt about this combo, but it’s so good!
Neil Said UFOs don't exist. But US Govt just stated that they do. So Whose white?
ha true lol
@@mohanpanickerpanicker8767 Neil didn´t say UFOs don´t exist... He just said UFOs are not piloted by aliens, and the US Govt agrees with that. As a matter of fact, the US Goverment didn´t stated "UFOs do exist" recently, the used a completly new term (that means pretty much the same), but the words "UFO" are not present anywere in their official statement. Look it up.
So good.
It's just some B level comic, nothing revelatory
At the age of 52, Im discovering that I like science. If ONLY I had an instructor like Mr. Tyson in my youth!

So...in short...
Uranus got slammed?!?!
I'm sorry. I don't deserve the internet. 🤣🤣🙏🙏
I feel the same. I really wish my appetite for knowledge was around in my teens lol I'm 37 & contemplating going back to school to study something like science or chemistry.
:) well Leo Tolstoy discovered the pleasure of cycling and started learning at 62. Fauja Singh took up serious running at age 89 and finished marathons after that... :)
Just start :)
You'd figure out alot about Uranus.
That's exactly right. When kids don't like a subject it's usually bc they had a bad teacher that didn't ignite their curiosity and subsequent passion for said subject. Better late than never though, and welcome to the nerd community my friend! Glad to have you on board with this amazing subject
I love that Russell asks great follow up questions. You can tell he's seriously interested
yeah but sometimes he yawns
It’s cuz he works and travels 24/7 on tour .. Google him
One of the craziest crossovers I didn't know I needed.
I WAS LITERALLY GOING TO COMMENT THIS!!!!! ahahha except I was going to say randomest instead of craziest
This is so weird, my algorithm reveals that I watch mostly stand up comedians and space/ astronomy videos. I never thought these two worlds would collide.
Somebody is going to get Scienced real bad .. Somebody..
Take the science and go, just take it and go.

Two of my favorite people together in the same room, shooting the shit about my favorite topic. Thought I would not live to see the day.
I am pretty sure Russell Peters was withholding many jokes on when they talked about Uranus topic.
Lol so true I can see his smirk intensity growing with every Uranus mention.
"If I take Uranus with my thumb up..." xD xD xD
I was only listening to this interesting conversation- screen turned off - and every time they mentioned Uranus I was thinking, now Russel Peters is going to strike, here comes the joke .. but sadly he never did 😅
Who created energy in the first place then. U cannot explain it with science only.
@@greenbillugaming2781 Sorry, but yes, you can. Well, not you. But clever people.
I love how Neil gets all excited with almost every question and says "Oh I got this! We good We good!" Makes me ROFL

It was fun watching Russell Peters holding back many obvious jokes about Uranus and the 1900s 😂😂
What a treat 😁
We all know why Russell chuckled at Uranus 😂😂
Neil is such a entrancing person to listen to. No matter what the subject, if he's talking about it then he's interested in It, and his enthusiasm for educating others about everything and anything is infectious. Just listening to him makes me want to learn. In fact it actually makes me want to go back to university and the academic community! Keep it up Neil, life is made so much more amazing simply because your podcasts are available to watch
"Whos your gravity Daddy." I need this on a shirt like yesterday.
I only know "Who's your daddy" !!!!
That is something Jupiter will tell Uranus.
Omg your right that needs to be a shirt
I only know WHERE'S MAMMA !!!
Both of these guys are so awesome. This was so fun to watch.
Do a part two... Please..
Thank you Neal, thank you Russell !!!
Man I really love how Neil shares the vast amount of Knowledge he has for free, precisely to educate us a little bit more.😎👌🏻👌🏻
In November 1999... a Wednesday, I mentioned casually to my mother that we were going through some rocks in space and that we could see a meteor shower, that night I was tired and went to sleep... then later on at 3:00 am She woke me up and told me to come along to the terrace. There we were, me and her, watching lots and lots of "falling stars" everywhere... I was in Venezuela at that time so it was at the exact same time, I realize now, that Neil was at the Brooklyn Bridge watching the same thing... that moment was precious to me, for many reasons, and more so because she is not with us anymore, and remembering all those great things we did together makes me smile.
Liar all you do is lie
Seeing these two people from totally different universes together in a thumbnail while scrolling through RUclips, I felt like it is a glitch in the Matrix.

As always, incredibly interesting. Thank you for constantly educating and inspiring the search for knowledge 👌🏼
22:33 Neil says "I think about it all the time". Haha-"Awesome!" I think more people should too. Wow what a great show. This is exceptionally good for our society. Thank you both.
You two balance each other very well. This is a notably good episode in my book.
I like how Russell managed to squeeze some chemistry and semantics out of Neil as well as astrophysics
Thank you, thank you, thank you RUclips for putting this on my recommendations list 🙏🏼
Thank you so much for your work. I love learning new things like this and you make it fun... thank you
A very entertaining and informative show. 50 minutes well spent!
I love these two guys so much, one gave me a lot of laughs among the past years, and the other gave us all huge answers to huge questions and in style..

Actually that depends on your google history searches. It tries to guess what actually you are searching for. But nevertheless I see your point.
@@drhannibal8091 no it doesn't
@Yngve Andersen yes it's popular BECAUSE it's what people prioritize. That's not too hard to understand.
Yeah. Sad isnt it? This is the priority list of the most advanced and self aware lifeform on the only life bearing planet we know of that is on the verge of ending in multiple ways lol. It would be funnier if it weren't true.
Order of popularity should be in sync with order of priority. Sexy drug addict whores get far more attention from humanity than science. Were only technologically and scientifically advanced because of a small group of people who have they're shit straight. Most of humanity is actually responsible for the opposion of advancement and the slowing down of the achievement of goals like preserving and protecting the planet and getting us to someplace else before the planet can no longer sustain life.
Amazing job Russel and StarTalk! Just saying I personally have been advocating to get Russel and Neil together for years! First time I met Neil in Phoenix years ago I told him I befriended this amazing comedian before he got super popular on Netflix and that he needed to get him on StarTalk. I even tried to FaceTime Russel with Neil but Neil was in a hurry that day. Sorry, StarTalk for leaving you all those voicemails asking you to invite Russel on the show!
Neil is that grandpa we all need to lecture us at night before go to sleep with amazing stories and amazing information. Neil please just keep going. I love you from 🇬🇧
He'd keep us up all night.
Neil DeGrasse is a gift to human race. Thank you God. And special blessings on both of them.
Thank you Neil for making difficult knowledge accessible in a lighter manner. its amazing how little things are so critical for existence.
Who knew I needed a comedian to translate science for me xD
I love Mr. Nice as the co-host - he's funny and amazing. But Russell gives so many awesome follow-up questions!
Stoking the wonder of science and maths is one of the best ways of nurturing interest in the subjects. Great work!

Oh, hell yeah! Russell Peters -- one of the funniest comedians of this century. So good to see him out of his element on a podcast.
I was laughing at the Uranus part of the discussion because I could _hear_ all the Uranus jokes that Russell _wasn't_ making!

Oh wow, that explanation of tides just blew my mind. It makes so much sense, but I'd never thought of it that way before. Thank you Neil!
I see you. 4:19am. This is the Happiest making thought. Thank you gentleman. Oss!
When Neil talks about his experience with the meteor that headed straight for him, it helps me know I’m not crazy. I saw the exact same thing one night.
A star appeared, it got bigger and brighter then vanished. I then realized exactly what it was... then actually freaked out.
This experience must be extremely rare and I share it with Neil
(⊙o⊙)
I once had an experience of wich i was glad that my best friend was with me and also saw it happen because the thing was so unbelievable that they even put that sort of things in movies or fairy tales. But i once when i was just turned in my begin 20s i had a girlfriend and we just got to go together for a short time so it still was exiting and because she was just 18 and a careful mother she had to be home before a certain time, but because we were in love she was way too late so me and my best friend and his girlfriend walked home with her so she would be safe. And the moment i kissed her goodbye and opened my eyes i saw a shooting star in the sky!!!! I was just stunned and couldnt believe it and the moment i turned around my best friend just started to say wooow at the same time as me. I know most people wouldnt believe it when they hear this story but it was very very real and i am not the only one who knows it, even my girlfriend then who didnt witness it didnt believe it. For a short moment i thought it was a sign but that relationship just didnt work out and it was just extreme rare coincidence.
i love this episode so goddamn much!!!! Russell was killing it so hard for me, and then as always Mr. Neil mindblows me everysingle 2 minutes. Such an EPIC SHOW.
WE NEED MORE RUSSELL!!!
You are the reason I got interested in learning about the Universe and I thank you.
This was great! Big ups to Russell, hope you do this again soon. And Neil as clear and sharp with his points as always, thank you!
Congratulations for soon reaching *700.000 subscribers!*
Thanks! Onward to a million!
Neil is always fabulous and having Russell as a cohost was so entertaining. Information made easy. They should cowrite a book.
Russell, having read many of the comments, you impressed a lot of people viewing this episode, especially with your trip to the observatory in Chile. And I for one concluded your interest in cosmology is genuine when you spouted the term "retrograde" to describe the spin of Uranus, even before NDT did! Thanks for peppering the episode with your patent one-liners, but still hanging in there for the big questions, like how do you get something from nothing... Classic!
PS. I'm a fellow Torontonian (Markham)!

The amount of lame attempts at Uranus jokes on here is so disheartening. You're not funny or original, and anyone that makes these jokes or laughs at them has a low IQ.

I’m sorry I’m not familiar with Mr. Peters, but he asked some really great questions, (his own, not the mailed-in ones), and was a great co-host! I really liked this episode! Please bring him back!
One of the problems in academics is that there are many people who know a lot, but there are a few people who can explain what they know in a way that the layman gets it. Thank you Neil deGrasse Tyson for your easy to understand explanations.
