  • Nestled on the outskirts of Catskills Park in south eastern New York State, Hancock is a charming mountain town where the West and East Branch Delaware Rivers meet to form the Main Stem Delaware. Fishing in the eastern United States doesn’t get any better than this. These two large rivers (both tailwater wild trout fisheries) should be on your bucket list with exceptionally sized Browns and Rainbows. As far as history, Hancock has been a mountain retreat since the mid-19th century with hotels and accommodations provided to visitors, not to mention its connections to Major League Baseball as well as the lumbering and stone quarrying industries. Although not as impressive architecturally as some larger Trout Towns we will visit, Hancock does have some notable commercial, religious, and public architecture to briefly explore. Please join me today for our 4th episode of Trout Towns, in Hancock New York.

      Agreed. Not too tourist-y aside from fishermen. Really enjoy my time in that part of the Catskills.

    Keep up the good work!!! I just turned on a fly fisherman I know to you who only has years until he retires and has set a goal of catching a fish in each of all fifty states. 😇

    lots of fisherman and activity on those branches. Tough to get a nice stretch alone unless maybe a weekday or bad weather day.

      Agreed, very popular most days of the week. Public access is plentiful but still difficult to find water to yourself.

      We ride up to Roscoe and Hancock all the time from north west Jersey.
      That’s a great day trip.
      Sometime we’ll stay for a night most of the time we ride back same day.
      It’s about 300 mile round trip.
      About 400 miles if you include the riding we do up there once we get up there.

    Does that section of the river border Pennsylvania? Will a Pennsylvania license be sufficient or do you need New York license?

    • @ithacaster
      @ithacaster 3 месяца назад +1

      The bridge where he caught that big brown is the border of NY and PA. You can use a PA license on the main stem, and the portion of the west branch where the river has NY on one side and PA the other. The PA shore on the west branch runs from just downstream of Hale Eddy (the first section that was fished) down to the confluence of the east and west branch. The east branch is all in NY. I own a house just over the hill from where that big brown was caught.

      Agreed. East and West Branch Delaware are great, but solitude on some smaller lesser known PA Class A streams much better in my opinion.

      I got a nice smallmouth from my backyard on the east branch in Hancock last year on opening day of trout season. I've seen some large walleye caught in junction pool (where the east and west branch meet) and know that striped bass make there way up that far as well.

      @@TravelingTroutCo I mostly fish a 5wt there but when the water is high and I want to throw streams I'll use my 6wt. I've also floated the lower section of the east branch with my 4wt and caught some nice rainbows.

      The fish are bigger on the west and east branch. I own a house in Hancock and am there frequently. The amount of pressure varies considerably depending on conditions. On a late May to lake June weekend, if the water levels and temps are good, it'll get very crowded. Otherwise, it's not all that bad.

      I definitely put on a bit of a showman voice for the narrated sections (history/architecture). If your familiar with South Park, it's basically my version of the "Rod Schneider is ... A CARROT" voice ....... that said my real voice is reflected during the actual fishing parts of the videos - glad someone picked up on that lol
