  • The Delaware Water Gap was a major tourist destination in the mid-19th to early 20th century. Using rarely seen photos and images, this brief video brings the era to life.

I was born n raised in Hawaii but moved to the Delawhare Water Gap area in 7th grade. So this has caused me to have two areas to call home.
Just loverd this vid. I have walked thru the woods to see the remains, I have walked the Applation trail with my dad, water skied the Gap at least a dozen times, boarded a train at Water Gap RR Station, canoed thru the Gap with my dad many times as a boy. I even piloted both a hot air balloon thru the gap launcehd at Shawnee Lodge and flew a kit helicioter I built thur the gap a few times.
Seeing this video brought tears of joy to my eyes just now. A BIG thank you to all envolved in the making of this wonderful video.........

I live in the Poconos and I've been up there a thousand times I've seen the ruins of the hotel it's an amazing sight to see. there are still plates and cups and various items from that era. I recommend visiting it, just watch out for timber wood rattle snakes. One almost bit me luckily my dad helped me out but other than that it's a beautiful place to hike.

Thanks for this. We used to come up here to my Grandpa’s place, later it was ours, when my Dad passed, it was sold. I miss it and this was a nice reminder. Thanks again!

Love DWG, Enjoy the hike up along Mt. Minsi, Lake Lenape and have read the electric meter on the Antoine Dutot museum a few times. I'll have to make the time to visit the museum now.

Music is unusual as the area was settled so much by Dutch plus English, especially some that traced to the Mayflower and Plymouth, MA.

Am I the only one who clicked this thinking it would be about climbing and was sorely disappointed?

The title is "Mountain Paradise: The Golden Era of the Delaware Water Gap". So you might be the only one who expected climbing.
