GR86 differential fluid change

  • Changing the differential fluid on your GR86 / BRZ is super simple. Surprisingly, my OEM differential fluid lasted over a dozen track days and 12,000+ miles before it finally had enough! When the oil overheats like this it becomes very stinky and you will know it is time to change it.
If you doing a lot of tracks days I recommend the Red Line 75W90 weight oil. Otherwise, the 75W90 will be just fine.

    ► Red Line 75w140 differential gear oil : amzn.to/45zAfeP
    ► Fluid pump : amzn.to/3mP3w4I
    ► Another fluid pump : amzn.to/45yboYE

Cool stuff my man. It's amazing how over looked rear diff fluid is out there in the car community. There are people with 100K miles that never touched it.

Don't forget.... before draining any diff or transmission etc. Make sure you can get the upper fill plug off first.

@@KURAMA.846 I paid around $950 for the 3500lbs model (on sale), but that was several years ago. Looks to be around $1500 now but they have sales pretty regularly.

@theBTRGarage - You should consider doing a video of must have tools to have in your trunk for track days.

how do you like that hand pump? i have the same one and its kind of a pain, leaks already too.

It's definitely not perfect, but it is cheap and gets the job done. The alternative is one like this below, but using two hoses is also a pain, I like the bottle style one better:

Over 12k miles, 12 track days, whole bunch of autocross.

Is it necessary to install a bigger / better diff cover to help with cooling effect? Like greddy one

On these cars I don't think it is necessary. At least with the OEM diff. A heavier oil should suffice if you're tracking a lot.

Haha :D The lift is a QuickJack car lift! I have a couple videos of it on my channel, it is definitely nice if you are doing lots of work like this related to cars, race cars, etc.

      Hi
How many km after new does it need to be replaced?

    • @TheBTRGarage
      @TheBTRGarage  11 месяцев назад +1

@@Themis187 Whatever 15k miles is in km 😁 For more "severe" driving many change it every 10k miles (ie: lots and lots of tracking).
