  • In this episode we review and use two portable water filters by Grayl: the 16 oz Ultralight and the 24 oz Geopress. These Grayl units have the water filter and the drinking vessel together in one unit, and all parts nest together. There are no external parts. Replacement filters are readily available.
    The Grayl Water Filters Remove:
    * 99.9999% of Bacteria
    * 99.99% of Protozoan cysts
    * 99.99% of Viruses
    * Heavy metals
    * Microplastics
    * Many chemicals
    The filters improve flavor and remove odor.
    We have decided to go with water filters that remove viruses so that no matter where we go, or what the situation, when we reach for a water filter we know it can provide safe water for us to drink.

    I have the Grayl Ultralight. Well, 2. One for myself, one for my wife. We like them a lot and we consider them one of the best simple to use on the spot water filters. We also have the Katadyn Pocket Water Filter for heavy water usage as well. Both great products. Good review also. Cheers

    The 24oz can be backflushed with an aldi 15oz tika masala glass bottle, 🤣. Fill the inner bottle to 1/4 full with purified water and put the glass bottle in and push. Untwist filter and push glass out from bottom and repeat steps. Do it 5-10 times. Easy.

    Hi. Nice product review. By the way, have you tested this water grail using seawater? Can this product make potable water out from seawater? Thanks for your reply.

    • @wobblyotteroutdoors
      @wobblyotteroutdoors  5 месяцев назад

      Thank you. No, I have not tested it filtering seawater. Grayl states that their filters work only on freshwater. None of the filters of this type can remove the salt from oceanwater or brackish water. The salt is too tiny of molecule to be removed.

    is there anything you need to know about cleaning? or just rinse/flush with water? :)

    • @wobblyotteroutdoors
      @wobblyotteroutdoors  4 года назад

      Grayl states that the non-filter parts can be washed with warm soapy water. The filter cartridge can be rinsed with water, but should not be washed with soapy water. Here's a link to Grayl's page about this and more FAQs: grayl.com/pages/faqs

    Thank you for the in depth review. I just received my bottle today. Tested coffee and fresh beetroot juice so far. The result was kind of disapointing. Taste and colour remained like 80% the same. Do you have any experience with the colour besides the red nutrition colour?

      It's made to filter water to make it safe to drink so you don't get sick or die from contaminated water. It does those things well. Any other use is misuse of the product. No, I don't have experience using the product t filter anything other than water.

      @Michel Saner, I'm concerned that I didn't properly explain the purpose of testing removal of the red food dye from the water. We have also reviewed the Go Berkey kit. Berkey suggests testing their black Berkey filters to be sure they are working correctly, by testing with the removal of red food dye from water. If they remove the red color, then the filter is good. In this video of the Grayl, I did that same test. This link goes to a page where Berkey explains the test: www.bigberkeywaterfilters.com/blog/berkey-water-filter/the-black-berkey-red-food-coloring-test#:~:text=Next%2C%20fill%20your%20upper%20chamber,is%20defective%20or%20saturated%2Fexhausted.

      @@wobblyotteroutdoors Well it's good to know what's the purpose of the red colour. Thank you very much for your effort guys. Take care and warm greetings from cold Switzerland.

      The Grayl website describes the ultralight cap as having "beveled edges for a more comfortable (vented) pressing experience".

    • @itsjasonb
      @itsjasonb 3 года назад +2

      The Geopress version has that second, smaller twist on cap to relieve pressure so you don't have to take the entire lid off to press.

    Will the Grayl Geopress water purifier filter out fluoride? Does anyone know?

    • @wobblyotteroutdoors
      @wobblyotteroutdoors  3 года назад +1

      Grayl doesn't say that their filters remove fluoride. Berkey sells a specific fluoride removing filter for their units.

    the only difference in the two is the size of the bottle right

    • @wobblyotteroutdoors
      @wobblyotteroutdoors  4 года назад +1

      Correct.
      (updated April 8, 2020... The Geopress and the Ultralight are the same in that they both filter out the same things. They are different sizes, they have different lids, and different filter configurations. My initial response was based on the expectation that Mike had seen the video, and therefore already knew the two versions looked somewhat differently from one another. ~Cris)

      thank you which one do you prefer

    • @wobblyotteroutdoors
      @wobblyotteroutdoors  4 года назад +1

      For my smaller hands, the Ultralight is easier to grasp when pulling the outer container off, so I like it better. Bill likes the larger water capacity of the Geopress. Plus, with the Geopress, it has a small drinking spout that is on top (a bit farther away from the edge of the dirty water container), and it has larger, comfortable pads on the top to place your palms to press when running the filter through the water. Hope this helps ~Cris
