It's important to remember it was Historia herself who "initiated" the pregnancy by asking Eren about having a child - she hated the pressure she felt from the 50-years plan and everyone expecting her to bear children out of necessity for "the greater good", and she hated that she would be forced into something not of her own free choosing.
So she decided to "usurp" that choice from the military - they were the ones who would force her to have a family (apparently with a political match they would be choosing for her) for the sake of their plans, so she took that choice back for herself by having a family of her own volition and not for any plan (this is similar to how she "usurped" the choice of becoming a Queen from the military in the Uprising arc - they wanted her to become their puppet queen to serve their regime plans, while she became Queen to serve her own wishes and goals instead), and did so with a partner she chose herself - at this point in time Eren's the closest friend she has, and considering all they went through together in Uprising, as well as Eren continuously standing up for her in public meetings, and so it makes sense he would be the partner she picks.
Eren meanwhile obviously cares a lot about her, as shown when he hid important military information for her sake, as well as him constantly bringing up her safety during the timeskip - ever since Uprising it's clear they built a close bond, which isn't a stretch when you consider Eren in Liberio shows he associates romantic love with wanting to protect a girl from becoming a titan, while he did exactly the same with Historia
(And remember !! Eren having a flashback of Historia asking him what he thought of her having a baby when he visited her before leaving for Marley while Zeke is talking about Mikasa possibly liking him.. Also the baby being born on the exact day of Rumbling.. Historia lying about her Pregnancy date to Levi , Eren waiting outside the barn while she talks to Farmer-kun??? Why include all that if it wasn’t going to lead anywhere)
As for why he would become a father when he's going off to do the Rumbling - Eren is a natalist, like his mother, and believes children being born is a special thing regardless of circumstances, so his own circumstances and actions wouldn't deter him from having a child because in his eyes they don't matter in the face of being born into this world. Anyway, Eren being a father is what would make him double down in his determination and decision to live through the hell he's about to endure (tying into Kruger telling Grisha he needs to love someone inside the walls/"have a family" in order to fully commit to ending the cycle, which is what would've seen with Eren here). Eren saying "You Are Free" to his own kid would make so much more sense than Grisha saying that to Eren when we all know damn well that isn't the truth..
Getting The Children Out Of The Forest/Children Surpassing Their Parents was one of my favorite themes of AOT (just like "Bystander" was one of my favorites episodes from AOT) It was shown to the audience time and time again just for it go absolutely no where is frustrating and makes me wonder why did i even invest time on this story.. You can clearly tell That Eren and Historia were going to put an end to that theme there are countless evidence in the manga (the "Scrapped" final panel even confirms that )and you can see that in the anime as well even tho they've tried their best to conceal the evidence by even cutting off Erehisu scenes...ooooof I could literally go on and on about this but what's the point Everything about this story is pointless and meaningless and it's hard to "Accept An End Like That" ...

Also, there were implications about Mikasa's tattoo and her being Hizuru Royalty but the whole plot was discarded as if it never happened. Just there were implications or should i say straight up evidence of Hisoria's child being Eren's but that whole plot was discarded as well as if it never happened. This all seems to me like they retconned it to oblivion because they wanted to end it quickly for whatever reason. Everything past chapther 127 looks and feels like a retcon and wrap up of low quality. As if Isayama had a gun pointed at his head and was ordered to end it in the fastest and worst way possiblle for unknown to us reasons.

    • @biggamer7245

It’s not that the fandom “was” with you, because the themes can still be important to individuals even if some(prolly a lot tbh) people think the ending made the themes bad or not important.
Also what about all of the proof in season 3 of Eren manipulating Eren Kruger?
Like why doesn’t anyone that makes arguments of the ending not making sense not talk about their feelings on Eren manipulating Eren Kruger?
I feel like I would believe the ending was truly bad(other than the story writing and storytelling) if someone came up with why Eren’s head and voice replacing Kruger’s in season 3 wasn’t foreshadowing that Eren manipulated his own birth due to the predestination paradox stuff.
And what about Eren’s “dream” in season 1 episode 1? No one that hates the ending tries to explain all of the stuff that points to the timeline having been fixed from the beginning and assume that Isayama retconned the ending.
Also the story throughout AOT was probably still important if you thought it was important back then when wou first read or watched it cause I mean, that was the point of Armin’s talk with Zeke, but if you thought that was stupid than idk what to tell you because that is what Isayama probably wanted to tell us as one of his messages.
The earth will probably end up being being swallowed by the sun in a couple thousand years or however long, but that doesn’t make our current lives and everything we do meaningless does it?
I still think all of the scenes throughout AOT and the themes matter but that is only my opinion. There are many things(lots of parallels as well) that hinted at the timeline being fixed even since season 1.
I do get why the whole predestination and fixed timeline stuff makes many people mad though, I personally still find meaning in all of AOT and even though the storytelling and writing in the ending is bad, the ending has brought AOT up for me, call me “I’ll minded ending defender” if ya want but I am being honest, just like how Odin is being honest about his feelings towards AOT.

d @biggamer7245 my comment is just talking about how the EDs know what we talk about but they think its unimportant to the story at the end. It just sometimes feel like we should of been more civil in our discussions then being tribalistic. who knows in time people will watch other shows and rewatch this and actually see the problems.

    • @biggamer7245

@@mooncrow2447 I get your point if people actually say stuff like that, but if people are making assumptions that anyone that didn’t hate the ending didn’t care about the journey is something then that is something I just don’t get. Are there people that say they like the ending and also say that “oh everything else in the story in seasons 1-3 didn’t matter but the ending is good anyways”?
In my opinion, the whole conversation between Armin and Zeke in the paths was a message that implies the opposite thought, that even though the rumbling and everything was a predetermined paradox, everything we went through to reach the end still mattered, but that is just my opinion of course.
I just feel that there has been a big bias made on people who don’t hate the ending, saying that anyone who doesn’t hate it is ill minded and stuff and calling anyone who hating on the ending “ending defenders”, which I think is just straight up rude, we all have our own individual opinions. The writing in the ending was bad of course but I personally don’t think anything was retconned.
I have rewatched AOT enough times(like 4 or 5 times total, have watched the finale part 2 twice because of how confusing it was) to believe enough in the ending we have gotten. I have also looked at all of the lore and everything since Isayama said he forgot it and yea, I know, everything is just a head cannon since nothing is confirmed, but I am still able to make sense of things even with how messy and confusing the ending is.
We should be civil in our discussions yes, I agree 100%, and I think it is important to respect each others points of view and perspectives.
I do agree that rewatching AOT is important for all of those that have never rewatched it, but considering you hate the ending(which I think is totally reasonable, and as I said we all have our own points of view) I would like to know, have you rewatched AOT before?
I feel like in general the toxicity of the ending started because “both sides” of “ending defenders” and “ending haters” are telling each other that we don’t understand the ending when AOT in general is subjective, like sure the writing for the ending I can say can be objectively bad and definitely confusing, sure, but other than that I just think both sides end up being hypocrites when telling each other that they don’t understand anything, which isn’t true, we each have our own opinions, I personally feel that we should respect each others opinions and I am sure many others do too, the controversy over the ending reminds me of the message in AOT how humanity never stops fighting until there is one person left, that was a quote made by Erwin early on, can’t remember which season.

I was someone who hopped onto the AoT train very late. Basically binged all the way to Final Chapters pt1, then read the like 6 or so chapters of the manga that was left. So this is my first actual exposure hearing the Eren x Historia argument.
I think there are some good points made and I can see how you can set up expectations from it. I'm not the high analytical type, but I can just say personally, I never really expected that outcome.
I always saw "sins of the father" threads as "cycle of hatred" threads. I can see the theme with sins of the father now, but, to me, it seems like it thematically resolved at Grisha actually treating Eren better, thus surpassing not only his father, but also his past failures as a father.
There is the point of Grisha still giving the Attack and Founder to Eren, hence being another sin he committed as a father, but I think the emphasis there was the cycle of hatred as well as establishing the whole timeline shenanigans where it's a deterministic 1 timeline universe. It's like, you can argue why Grisha did what he did, but he still would have done it regardless, just like how Eren has mixed reasoning on why he did the Rumbling but was still inevitable.
I also thought the focus with the sins of the father was the connection to the freedom theme surrounding Eren. In every case, the sins of the past generation limited the freedom of the next, and only through their own strength can they break free of it to actually be free and live as they are. Historia's theme was tied to self Identity and self Realization. Eren was tied to freedom. Through the sins of the father theme, it gave them a connection for growth that led to both of them growing in their own ways as their free selves.
Lastly, I thought the whole Historia child thread was just a foil to Ymir. Put into a situation where they're forced to have children and take part in government shenanigans. But the difference was Ymir was forced to do so and didn't embrace the love for her children, while Historia's was self imposed, a choice, in order to preserve her own and her child's freedom, being able to choose her lover, and also giving love to her children like Ymir never did.
I dunno how skewered this is due to the ending, but it's just how I saw it. It's why I personally enjoyed the ending. To me, it was all about the influence of connections between people and how those connections intermingled that could lead to a better or worse future.

Because it doesn't? King Fritz died 2000 years ago before the story even played out and it isn't even looped back to him especially not since the thing that resolves the titans is romantic "love" so sins of the father isn't even a theme by the end.

Changes i would consider better than what we got (a few things off the top of my head, feel free to add more):
    1) Levi should have joined Eren because anything else is contradictory to his character. Levi always fought to free the people of the island and saw countless comrades die for that reason, also he saw his dearest friends get killed by the warriors, and now all of sudden he's a team with them because "le evil rumbling"??
2)Levi should kill Zeke and Annie and Reiner in the most brutal way possible (after Eren has used Zeke)
3)Someone kill Gabi please, she deserves it
4)Eren must complete the rumbling while killing his traitorous friends who betrayed their homeland and comrades
5)Floch should be glorified as the utmost embodiment of bravery, and heroism and have a statue built for him
6)Historia bares Eren's child, which he successfully saves and protects by a successful rumbling, thus surpassing his father and grandfather who failed to protect their children.(surpassing the father theme being concluded in the best way possible)
7)Ymir actually having a character and a brain
8)Mikasa being killed by someone after being shown that she never truly loved Eren, only the image of him she had created in her mind, otherwise she would have never fought against him
9)The plot about Mikasa being Hizuru royalty actually leading somewhere and being of significance to the story
    10) Eren not killing his mom because that's totally insane and has no reason to happen
11)Eren not convincing Grisha to kill the Reiss, he was already a dedicated restorationist, had no need for being convinced.
    12) Eren actually not even having any time travel powers at all would instantly make the show 100 times better.
13)Back at the battle of the port and the plane, the Yeagerists whould have killed at least a couple of the main characters, maybe Jean or Connie, because the main cast having 100% survival rate is totally stupid and unrealistic. Also, the Yeagerists should have at least damaged the ship or plane or both, there was so many of them, it was unrealistic for them to be unable to shoot a damn boat or plane a single time. In fact, now that i think about it, the Yeagerists were so many and so overwhelming with the thunderspears and Floch's guidance, they should have at least taken down one of the main Titans, say Annie, or Reiner. Annie dying here at the port battle would have been great and made perfect sense.

This is NOT my statement but I'd like to share it with you guys here (written by @cerene11 on YT):
"I remember someone pointing out chapter 88 starts with (Kruger) Attack titan destroying Marleyan ship and ends with Eren saying "Attack titan" and continues in 89 with Hanji visiting his cell and asking him what he means. Chapter 106 starts with (Eren) Attack titan carrying a Marleyan ship and ends with Eren saying "Fight, fight" and continues in 107 with Hanji visiting his cell and asking him what he means. So the chapters are clearly designed to be parallels, 88/106 and 89/107. In both chapters 89/107 we have a scene where Eren and friends meet Historia prior to a scheduled meeting and there's a scene in both of Eren smiling at Historia. These happy scenes are contrasted when in both chapters Eren also becomes agitated because of Historia's safety being in danger, in 89 he keeps the information about royal blood hidden and in 107 he rejects Zeke's plan. And finally, chapter 89 ends with Kruger telling Grisha to have a family, and chapter 107 ends with Historia being pregnant. Coincidence?"

I'm an old man almost 50 and wasted my entire life working on cargo ships tanker ships and oil rigs and this show was my only entertainment that I had all the crew used to watch this show and i really loved it. but well when the show ended at the end I just felt like my time was wasted 😅 because what was the point. the season 4 of this amazing show just made me hate all the characters even the main character. I loved the first three season but season 4 just makes you realize how stupid all these characters are 😂 Eren went through all of that pain and suffering to kill the Titans until he realized who the real enemy is and he didn't even destroy them so that his friends could turn out to be heroes at the end or something ? I thought the whole goal was to make sure history doesn't repeat itself and Eren makes sure the future population of the island don't go threw everything he has but it just seems like he doesn't care. he never killed Arnim or Annie ( he even seems to care about them 😅 ) but at the same time he doesn't care about his friends or the island ? he lets his friends kill him that doomed the island but he also killed that girl Hange ? so then what was the purpose to defend the island or to protect his friend ? because he failed to do anything and history now keeps repeating himself and the island was destroyed at the end 😂 and all the characters in season 4 are just stupid in my opinion just mindless ROBOTS. it's like they don't even know why are they fighting. Mikasa doesn't even know what's she's doing she just does whatever the others do. and I know a lot of people might disagree with me but i think Arnim is one of the most selfish characters in this show and a manipulator in season 4 that made me hate him so much. Mikasa didn't even wanted to kill Eren but Armin manipulated the whole group into following his plan so that he could be with the Annie who is responsible for the death of his grandfather and destroyed half the city ? and nothing even happened at the end no goals accomplished nothing history kept repeating itself. I have a lot in my mind that I want to say but this show just pisses me off now when i see anything about it 😂 seemed like the entire thing was just a waste of time because nothing changed. and season 4 just made me realised how much these characters are stupid and how much I hate them even Eren 😂 . anyways I really like your video I still watch some of these videos about this show time to time but either way anything related to the show just makes me angry now. at the end it seemed like Floch was the only sane And loyal character with a mind on its own that that doesn't act like a mindless robot ( Mikasa )

I see some people saying that AOT and its authors are doomsayers, but this is because they do not understand the Japanese culture of storytelling.
In Japan, we do not use stories to appeal to our principles.
It is only a fiction created by the author, and the important thing is to give the watcher an emotional response.
Those who deny the ending wish for complete peace in Eldia, while those who affirm it accept a temporary peace.
Although they differ in essence, they are talking about the same issue of "peace.
It is common in Japan to create stories that raise the issue of leaving it up to people to make their own choices in the real world.
I am not saying that it is wrong for people not to understand this.
I am sure that new AOT watchers will have different impressions in the future.
The fact that it will be talked about for a long time in that way means that AOT is a success.

Or start to see why this the future he saw had to be that way? He was already planning on committing genocide when things went south. Are we actually saying that Eren at this point would be down for genocide but not down to help his royal bestie free herself from people’s plans for her by getting her pregnant? Killing millions is an acceptable solution to a problem but a helpful dicking down between depressed friends is a step too far? Seems weird to me.

I think its better that things aren't stuck to like this, life isn't perfect and neither should storytelling be. I think if the ending was how you've said and how others wanted it, it would've betrayed how reality really plays out. I like that rawness about it personally, I understand its not so naturally enoyable due to the lack of connectivity between points of interest throughout the series. Though, like life, some questions are never answered fully and things dont always play out how we'd like. I think this adds more poetry to the story in many ways

Yea I am a “ending defender” to all of you guys just because I don’t hate the ending with a passion(the writing was bad and storytelling sucked but I’ve come up with my own meaning) ok but I’m not a toxic person and I would like to know, have you talked about *Eren Kruger* at all?
I feel like he is an underrated character because Eren’s head and voice replace Kruger’s for a bit Kruger talks to Grisha, his head and voice replacing Kruger’s aren’t mistakes made by the studio and in my opinion is proof of Eren making sure his own birth would happen based on Kruger’s words, I haven’t heard you talk about that scene and same with the other ending haters.
Can you explain what the scene with Eren Kruger meant?
Can you explain why Eren’s head and voice replaced Kruger’s?
And can you explain the “dream” Eren had in season 1?
Another thing is I just don’t think the ending took away the thematic messages but that is just my opinion.

@@annett5 Exactly, that is my point, people are overlooking extra things within AOT and are only talking about the storytelling in the ending being bad and saying what AOT was “supposed to be”, but the meaning of AOT is what we as individuals make of it.
No one is correct, no one is wrong, but the toxic “ending haters” community that has surfaced since the AOT ending 2 years ago acts like they are 100% correct and that anyone defending the ending is stupid or ill.
