Thanks so much for covering this. I'll be using my X470 board with the new zen 3 cpu as soon as I'll be able to buy one. Was leaning toward upgrading to b550 motherboard, but you saved me some money with this video. Thanks again!
The vrm quality will affect your voltages and boost clock speed on a whole new level if you don't upgrade to a new mobo. I can confirm this with my 5800x in my b450 tomahawk max. I require way more voltage than others in b550 and silicon lottery can't be so poor on my side.
@@w1n1x Can you explain to a noob like me where is the problem. I plan to use B450M Pro4 from ASrock with 5600 (if amd will release cheaper non X version).
@@barkley206 PBO ( Precision Boost Overdrive) and CO ( Curve Optimizer) won't behave as it should be. Voltage is all over the place and the b450 boards are incapable of handling the continious current delivery these new processors need for their high boost clock. Currently I have 4.6 GHz on all core and 5050 MHz in single-core with my mag b550 Tomahawk and ryzen 7 5800x. I plan to go higher with the all-core speed as I know some people who run the same specs with 4.75 GHz all-core
@@Solvargen Nope, won't cut it. Believe me. Check the vrm specs on the x470 you own and compare it with the b550. They really did an overkill with the b550 boards. Even the shittiest b550 board makes much, much less heat with the vrm than the best b450 and x470 boards. Most mid and high-tier b550 boards are even better vrm wise than some x570 boards. Why is that? Because the x570 boards were released before the ryzen 5000 processors while there were no official specs leaked of the new processors. On the other hand the b550 boards were released with the full knowledge of the entire 5000 ryzen processor line-up specs so they could engineer the boards in a way that they could fully utilize these new processors.
Just bought Asus ROG B450-F and Ryzen 5600X. Put in my older Ryzen 1600 and updated BIOS. As you showed in the video, 1600 still worked after BIOS-update. I have now swapped to 5600x and it works fine without any problems. Really happy with the result and i was able so save some bucks by buying "older" chipset. I hve not planned on buying AMD graphics card so Smart Access is not something i am worried about. PCI gen 4 support isnt something that will bother me at all since it makes no difference for most of the systems right now.
I have the same motherboard Asus ROG Strix B450 F gaming 2, and planning to upgrade from Ryzen 5 3500 to Ryzen 9 5900x. I'm little worried about the bios update as well as the anti-rollback thing. I am also concerned about the throttling issues if I use the PC on full load throughout the day.
The "irreversible " feature is actually placed there as a safeguard that people won't blame AMD/vender for bricking their boards. But since it's already a common sense now you should swap back the old CPU after downgrading BIOS so the vendor (at least Gigabyte) didn't make it irreversible. It actually made our life much easier.
Finally someone who comments on the backwards compatibility... a year after the first beta bioses and it's so hard to find a guide that actually mentions the important stuff. Kudos
Only a few small posts on reddit for ASUS boards and a couple of videos on here. I think it is only early first generation Ryzen CPU's that will no longer work after updating the bios. I updated my B450 Mortar Max in preparation a month ago for a new 5000 series CPU and have been running my 1600af for the time being issue free. Got a 5600 in the mail which I am looking forward to receiving.
@@auswolf9507 I know I'm a bit late but I have a question, I have an ASRock steel legend b450 mobo, and Ryzen 2600, if I update the bios, can I still use my 2600 until I get a 5700x ?? or would I have to wait for new CPU to see if the bios update actually worked??
@@veezob2440I think you lose original Zen first generation support but Zen + cpus, Zen 2 and newer should still work fine. I was able to reuse my old ryzen 5 1600AF with my MSI B450 Mortar Max which was updated to support my ryzen 5 5600. The 1600af is a Zen + cpu and is a refreshed slightly underclocked ryzen 5 2600 with a different name. I believe the 2600 is Zen + pinnacle Ridge also. The motherboard still has the latest agesa bios on it. I know bios size on some boards is quite small and in order to add new cpu support they needed to remove first gen ryzen cpu support. You should be fine to use your old cpu for the time being after updating the bios. Just to be safe I would double check on the asrock website and read the support information for your motherboard. Be sure to follow asrocks steps to updating the bios very carefully. From memory that motherboard doesn't have bios flash back functionality so you have a very slim chance to completely brick the motherboard if the flashing process fails. If you aren't confident in doing it to yourself take it to a computer shop that does repairs.
Hey, Good job testing this. I have the same X470 AORUS GAMING 7 WIFI and i updated before watching the video. Given there was no warning on Gigabyte site about the BIOS i assumed it will work with my 2600x. It will be great if you can do some game/productivity tests with 5xxxx between x470/450 and x570/550.
Great news! Now I just need to find 5600X. Having 2400G in Asrock Fatal1ty B450 ITX is getting a bit slow on some situations. Works fine but more is better :) I was a bit skeptical first, but now I see it should work. You really saved money for us! Thanks!

Yeah, my 2700x worked on the PRIME 470-PRO, and new bios. The 5600 was also working fine. I was worried the 5600 wouldn't already work, but I'm happy it did. :-) Saves me and upgrade to b550
Testing an MSI X470 Gaming Plus now with a 1700x. I have my 5800X in hand so I will try to boot with the 1st gen ryzen to let you guys know. will report back in a bit. Please respond to this comment so I remember to respond back with whether it worked or not. update: It worked! Going to be upgrading my 2400G this weekend to a 5600X courtesy of my first trip to a MicroCenter! This video helped me prepare for what to do with my X470! Thanks!
I wonder if this unintentional support of older CPUs with the new bios means the Smart Access thing between the CPU and GPU will actually work with older CPUs too. I know that it's artificially limited to the new CPUs so.... Worth testing.
That's a pretty scary concept, that you might have to swap CPU immediately after a BIOS upgrade. I say that, because how do you know if it was successful. Must be a tad bit stressful, not knowing exactly when to turn it off and hoping you don't brick it or something.
X470 gaming pro carbon. Upgraded to a 5950x. It's possible to downgrade with a tool on the msi forums. And my first Gen cpu still works with the new bios. Support for first Gen ryzen was not removed. However support for MUCH older Amd cpus has been removed (athlons and such)
It's good to know that once you updated the bios, the older gen are still compatible with it.(It's more like an upgrade for new gen compatibility) I have the same motherboard and his (old) CPU. So I'm kinda comfortable upgrading to the 5000 series in the future! This vid. answered my questions, thank you!
It gets worse, there are people using ryzen 3 (5000 series) on X370 boards with beta BIOSes. AMD has got it's foot in the door and rammed it open and now they are resorting to intelesque tactics to ramp profits. There are even claims of ryzen 5000 working on A320 boards, so yeah.... AMD is full of it. That said, Ryzen 5000 is a superb architecture, I just wish they would quit with the lies, rushed launches and abysmal launch BIOS situation. My high end X570 board wouldn't work right for over 2 months because of BIOS issues, issues that arose because they are treating their board partners like garbage by forcing them to rush to market with unfinished BIOS (AGESA). One look at every manufacturers forums around launch and all you see in the AMD section is a wall of complaints and insults about how the boards are crap because X, Y, Z BIOS issues. More people need to be made aware of who is actually responsible for BIOS updates, without an AGESA update, which is exclusively the purview of AMD, all manufactures can do is tweak exposed settings like voltages, timing tables, enabling and disabling features etc. The AGESA code is proprietary and manufacturers can only modify it so much. Put away the horns AMD, you were meant to be the good guys.
Thanks for doing this research, I for one almost threw down $160 on a b550 itx, but decided to search further. This is a great marketing ploy on selling more motherboards even though AM4 seems to be at the end of it's journey. b450 doesn't have all the flashy new motherboard components, but who with an average computer use needs those high high transfer speeds anyway.
@TechteamGB Thanks for doing this video I am pretty sure it will help those that have watched the video on whether to upgrade on their older boards or not. As you said it worked on your own sample set of boards and CPU's that were tested and yes it would be great if GN & HW Unboxed did something like this as well since they have a much larger test base for hardware.
Thanks for the great deep dive on this. There's been a lot of vague and contradicting smoke and mirrors publicity (mostly from AMD on this). Knowing it's likely reversible may encourage me to try my BETA Bios update on my B450 MSI board. The biggest reason I'd upgrade my BIOs now even though I'm running a 3600 for another year or so would be to see if the smart access memory would function with my RX 5600 XT GPU. Publicly they're saying only big NAVI can utilize it but NVIDIA has their 3000 cards using it and say its not exclusive to one GPU architecture so I suspect it might work now? This smacks of the 5000 support fiasco on b470 and lower boards this video addressed. I'd love to see you test SAM on "unofficial cards" and perform benchmarks. Great work!
@@TheFlyingChungus I might wait for the price of the 5600x to stabilize or maybe they might bundle software like they have with previous generations in the spring. But I am glad to hear that I can get the BIOS on there now without bricking the system.
@@rensquared24 yeah just update bios and you can boot with the new CPU. But if you're planning to use Ryzen Master for some CPU overclocking, I realized that I can't open Ryzen Master due to some error popping up. So I figured out that I need to manually update the chipset driver that can be downloaded from AMD's website before being able to use Ryzen Master properly.
I updated “MSI x470 Gaming Pro Carbon” and 2700x still works fine on it(ran the Blender benchmark) + 5900x works mostly fine. One bug I saw is that with the beta BIOS, the USB ports drop connection from time to time - this is a more obvious issue when you are in a video call, since the web cameras start up slower.
@@amirpourghoureiyan1637 Original version(not sure Pro Carbon has a max version, didn’t check). I fixed my USB issue by going into BIOS and changing the idle state of my power supply.
Updated my x470 from f3 bios to the f30 (don't think this was necessary but did it anyway for the qflash) then to f60c and works great (cpu 2600 updating to 5800x3d)
I remember HP PC's locked their office pc product to exactly a short list of CPUs, and when you install a none supported CPU, you get a warning prompt that the CPU is not supported press any key to continue, and boot. In theory, this implementation should also work on the AMD mobos, it's just a matter of programming to allow it in the BIOS. Usually micro codes are to identify the CPUs, and the basic functionality is still there, so it's really just a matter of programming from manufacturers.
I had updated my Gigabyte Ultra gaming v1.0 to beta bios F60c while I was still using my 2700x and it was rock solid, now that I have my 5600x CPU, the F60c bios still worked well but Gigabyte released a new beta bios (F60e), I updated to that and again, seems to work very well. Very happy with the difference in performance between the 2700x and 5600x considering nothing else in my system has changed, just a CPU swap. I'm a VR enthusiast and this CPU swap did make a difference in VR performance, so VR is not just having a great GPU after all! LOL My GPU is a 1080ti, so by today's standards, it's a slug.
Mate, good work.👊I just bought a 5800x for 249£ to upgrade from 2600x on Asus X470 Prime Pro, and the only thing I need to do is ta take the old out and put the new in and reset bios settings and run AMD chipset drivers. After that will optimise cooling and performance, job done.😁easy
Thank you for this very informative video. I hope that AMD receives a spank for being so anti consumer. Why did they all of a sudden change their approach?

Thanks for showing how this works on the older boards. I have to disagree with your conclusions for the reasons AMD would not promise support for older chips. When they announced the expected support, they had to give a conservative estimate on what they could do in the short time they had available, with the small resources and the limited space on the BIOS. They were able to add more support in the AGESA code than they promised in the time allowed, which is a bonus, but helps reduce RMAs as well (from people who flashed their BIOS without having a new chip to install). Also, adding the support isn't all they would need to do, since they also need to test each setup thoroughly to ensure they work under a many conditions as possible (also reducing RMAs). The problem here is that you have limited resources both material and personnel wise, and you aren't going to sacrifice testing on your promised support in order to test on your bonus unpromised support, so even though they added the support, they probably don't officially support it yet, as they haven't properly quality checked it yet. There are a great many other reasons they would have done these things, but I've already rambled long enough. A quick phone call to ask why probably would have gotten you some reasonable answers though. Edit: I apologize for the unfavorable comment. I just review manufacturers for a living, and I've learned that most of these decisions are based on far less nefarious reasons than what you made it sound like. There is always a reason, but it is usually far more complicated than it seems at first blush. In my experience, Occams Razor is a load of bull. It is almost never the simplest answer that is true.
Yeah and the earth is flat! If it wasn't for a nefarious reason then why did they not say the switch Maybe One Direction but we don't know instead of saying the switch is One Direction. Also all the other bios flashbacks are reversible so why would they assumed this would be the case. Especially if you clear the simos it seems like the board would go back to the way it was sent to you in the very beginning unless something was intentionally done to stop that
2023 update, updated bios on my X470 ASUS mobo, had to increment up to latest bios. My 2018 R7 2700 still worked fine, upgraded tp R7 5700X, all worked great. FYI upgrade was great!

I updated the bios on my Asus Crosshair Hero VII X470 board yesterday (been having latency probs and audio breaking up for a week or so, so going through all the usual stuff that googling advises inc updating drivers and bios etc) It's now running the latest firmware (4007 just released yesterday) and is fine on my Zen 1 1700x....good job too as was only updating due to the above reason and not because I plan to get a 5000 series CPU.....am hoping for the 3900x to come down to the £370 price it was 6 months ago but it aint happening yet. Would have been very annoyed if it would have meant the 1700x was then unusable.....I suppose if that was the case then Asus would have had a warning like "Only update to this BIOS if you don't want to use any of our gen1/2 CPU,s"
Asus ROG STRIX X470-F Ryzen 5 1600 got my 5600X coming in the mail, so we'll see how this goes for me soon. Yo gotta understand that AMD os doing what is best for them while providing you with nothing but the best. These older boards doesn't have as much power running through them for you to actually see the full potential of them that was advertised. So they made sure that you would opt in for a newer board that would show said results rather than they say your board is supported but you won't get as much performance because your board os lacking, which would ofcourse make some imbecile angry for not knowing how these things work and effect power draw/usage. They would be many online ranting about false advertisment. So they did what they did to make it easier on both ends. And also because the VRMs of most x470 motherboards were kind of weak compared to the current motherboards. A 5900x will heat up most x470 vrms significantly and you risk an eventual failure or you risk having the cpu throttled when vrm gets too hot.

Hi, sorry was planning on updating the bios for my b450 but I'm using a 2nd gen cpu. From your video, you tested it with a x470. Will my 2600 still work after bios update on a b450 board? b450 Aorus Pro Wifi for reference

@@w1n1x Ok, sorry to hear that. I'm using an X470 Gaming pro carbon from MSI, so the vrm quality should not be a problem.
Updated my X470 Gaming Plus Max board last night. All good here.

Can I update the motherboard to ryzen 5000 if you still have a second generation cpu( I have 2600x)?
@@detectivemo1753 yes should work
Hey, which Bios version have you used? I get no signal when I boot mine up, but it works properly with my r3 2300x
I've b450 and Ryan 5900x, my max overall boost clock on all cores is 4.2ghz, do you have any problem like this?
@@veezob2440 It should still work, for anyone else out there with a similar question.
My B350 board is dying, about to order a b450 and your video was super informative and helpful. I'm still on a 1600 but the upgrade path is nice.
i used a b350 board with 3rd gen and it worked great, wish they had support for 5th gen aswell
Great news! Now I just need to find 5600X. Having 2400G in Asrock Fatal1ty B450 ITX is getting a bit slow on some situations. Works fine but more is better :) I was a bit skeptical first, but now I see it should work. You really saved money for us! Thanks!

The 5600 was also working fine.
I was worried the 5600 wouldn't already work, but I'm happy it did. :-)

I wonder if this unintentional support of older CPUs with the new bios means the Smart Access thing between the CPU and GPU will actually work with older CPUs too. I know that it's artificially limited to the new CPUs so.... Worth testing.
you got any updates on that? :D
That's a pretty scary concept, that you might have to swap CPU immediately after a BIOS upgrade. I say that, because how do you know if it was successful. Must be a tad bit stressful, not knowing exactly when to turn it off and hoping you don't brick it or something.
You didn't actually test that the final BIOS update worked... Flawed process, flawed results.
it is totally reversible with all motherboard with bios flashback or similar function
which is not case of this board
No
I have the b450m steel legend and I will upgrade when prices will be decent, perfectly fine with my € 100 r5 2600
X470 gaming pro carbon. Upgraded to a 5950x. It's possible to downgrade with a tool on the msi forums. And my first Gen cpu still works with the new bios. Support for first Gen ryzen was not removed. However support for MUCH older Amd cpus has been removed (athlons and such)
I forgot that there were AM4 Athlons. Thanks for the reminder.
Hello, I have the same motherboard but an athlon 3000g will I be able to upgrade to a 5000 series cpu?
It's good to know that once you updated the bios, the older gen are still compatible with it.(It's more like an upgrade for new gen compatibility)
I have the same motherboard and his (old) CPU. So I'm kinda comfortable upgrading to the 5000 series in the future! This vid. answered my questions, thank you!
they are i stupidly updated bios for b450f have 2700x. it worked maybe even better but it had random 1 ms freezes so i rolled back and problem is gone
Im using x470 with a 2700 chip on F60, working fine, getting my 5900x soon!
Same here , x470 with 2700x , latest BIOS , paired with 6700xt , everything running just perfect , Resize Bar also increasing overall game performance
Great work!
Updated my ASRock B450 Pro4 with the latest BIOS and my Ryzen 2600 is still able to boot no problem. Gonna switch it out with the 5600x later.

@@rensquared24 yeah just update bios and you can boot with the new CPU. But if you're planning to use Ryzen Master for some CPU overclocking, I realized that I can't open Ryzen Master due to some error popping up. @@amirpourghoureiyan1637 Original version(not sure Pro Carbon has a max version, didn’t check). I fixed my USB issue by going into BIOS and changing the idle state of my power supply.

LOL
My GPU is a 1080ti, so by today's standards, it's a slug.
what resolution you play games at? i have the 2700x and 1080ti and play on 1440p Ultrawide. Did the 5600x see an improvement in non VR games?

@@shadowbanned4051 That is without a doubt. But it is absolutely against the former policy. They used to be the underdog, the budget brand, the old new kid on the block. And now they put their hands in their pants and go full on bully on the people that have been praising them for so long?

2020 just sucks. Only the number is kinda cool.

I did update my bios with each new bios release, just fyi.

I have the same board you used - Gigabyte Gaming 7 Aorus and the 2700x chip. I upgraded the BIOS a little while ago to F62 and for a while it worked, but then it started giving off video card error beeps every now and then, but the GPU still worked once it got into the OS.
However, those "No GPU" beeps started happening EVERY time, until eventually one evening after I shut my PC down, I went to boot it up the next day and it didn't POST, citing no GPU apparently, even though it was in there.
At first I thought it was a PSU or Motherboard issue, but having test my board with an older 1600x which worked, I've come to the conclusion that my 2700x is dead, which sucks because now I have to buy a 5700x.
I have to try another PSU, just to cancel out that, but I'm pretty sure it's the CPU.
I have a b450 tomahawks I just got a ryzen 5600x that I can’t use until MSI drops a bios. Which is conveniently in January. Obviously they want impatient people to buy the updated boards for Christmas. But MSI has always been pretty shitty to consumers
just released a couple days ago for the non max boards, will be interesting to see if the older cpu lines still work alongside zen 3 support - especially as this video only showed gigabyte boards being able to support older chips with the latest bios
Updated my b450 tomahawk max to latest beta bios, got support of 2600x, but i got red debug cpu light on when i plugged in 5600x, downgrading bios to non beta version still cpu light is on, but pc boots and have no troubles. Waiting for msi january bios update
@@sysseemindeed I till have a red cpu light, I have a MSI B450 Tomahawk. I just got the ryzen 5 5600x. Upgraded from a Ryzen 7 2700x, not sure why after updating bios for my Ryzen 5 5600x is showing a red cpu light but my pc works fine and my temps are low on my cpu. Idle 23 Celsius and like 40-50 max when gaming
Wait so you dodnt actually show the 2700x still working on the board after you reverted back to the old bios. Does it still work?
Amd have to make worse case statements that cover every possible board model. I don't see this as anti consumer more them covering themselves. As if they said it worked on boards they would have to test every one. Where to start where to stop.if they do they're damed if it fails on 1 if they don't........well yeah
"Amd have to make worse case statements that cover every possible board model." Why didn't they refrain from making absolute statements back then? Your apologetics don't add up. Is it too much to ask to make statements like "not guaranteed to work" or "at your own risk"? Off course, they have an invested interest in making it look like it doesn't work.
got a b450 aorus pro.....was running a 2600 2 years agoo... a 3900x till yesterday and from today 5800x thank you am4 thank you amd
Did it support your 5800x on your b450??
@@gelomelo3906 yeah it's running on it as I said...gigabyte b450 aorus pro bios f60e
Thanks for the info. Planning to get the 5800x for my b450 pro wfii.
Did you encounter any problems so far?
Does ryzen master work? And do you get to overclock?
Thanks in advance!
@@jocosibayan6351 nah ryzen master doesn't work properly yet.. It doesn't read the cores... Probably gonna be fixed on next bios update... Hwmonitor works however so you can check it from there you just can't manually overclock from it... But I ve enabled pbo from bios and it already reaches 4,84 ghz... Maybe I just got lucky on the silicon lottery... Anyway the cpu works great (a bit hotter than the 3900x but it's much faster) ur just gonna need to wait a bit more time if you want to overclock it... Clocktuner as weel should be updated to v2 and add new ryzens support for overclock within next month
@@PIVAZ91 Thanks for the reply man. Really appreciate it.
How is xmp doing? Do you get 3200mhz ram speed?
I got a Ryzen 7 4750G APU working a ASrock B450 in my last video.
very thorough testing, I love.
Thank you for the video. Waiting for the new chip launch to do this. I'm on the original bios and still freaked that I won't boot after the flash XD! (Currently 2700X - MSI B450-A Pro max)
Got my Ryzen 5xxx process on launch day, updated my Gigabytes x470 about a month ago bag no problem
How did you do it? You use the older cpu to update the bios then put the newer one in?
@@theboss12ize yeah, but I believe you could also use the gflash with no CPU. But this was some time ago, the remarkable thing was the chip was not officially supported by amd on x470 at the time it is now. So if you are buying new there is potential that your bios will be more up-to-date then mine was.
I recently upgraded from 1600X to 5700G on a B450 mobo (Wanted the iGPU in case my GPU dies and for virtualization purposes)
The 1600X indeed booted up but it was extremely buggy. Discord would reset every couple minutes. Background applications would just crash without me even touching them.
And when i entered the BIOS to verify if i'm indeed running the beta bios... it froze. In the bios menu!
I really wouldn't recommend flashing back with the same CPU. If it had locked while flashing it'd brick my board.
Does this work with MSI boards? I was trying to update to the latest bios on the website but it wasn't showing anything on the usb drive even tho in certain I put it on right, then I put the 3rd newest bios from the website on to the flash drive and was able to see and update to that one, but still not the newest one. I didn't upgrade to the one it was showing as I didn't want to mess anything up potentially
did u extract the files and then put it on the USB?
Good job on the testing.
Thats why you need a mobo with bios flashback
I am using the MSI X470 gaming Plus and as soon as MSI released the support patch I installed it and am still using my 1800x untill Amazon drops off my 5600x today.
Actually i updated the bios on my MSI B450 gaming plus max board , and the ryzen 1500 stil works ...curently have a 5600x installed in it !
wonderful vid! Exactly what I needed!
SUBD!
I can't even update idk why I formatted my drive to fat32 and put files theres and says invalid bios image plz help I got x470 ultra gaming and ryzen 2700x
I wanna upgrade to 5900x
nvm have to download all updates and im at F2 so currently installing one by one until the last one seems to be going good no fails 👍
Soo will you not be able to update the bios without the older gen cpus? So if I have a Ryzen 7 5800x and a b450 steel legend, I can't boot it?
Currently using the latest bios 6063 on my prime x470 pro and a 3900x without any issues. Did this in preparation for an upgrade to the 5800x3d but the 3900x is still supported even on the latest bios version!
Hello, i have question. I have got ryzen 7 2700x and b450 aorus pro and can i update bios to 5 gen ryzen or it wont work with 2700x?
Interesting Video, wonder if the support for SAM on pre 5000 CPUs will be offered up before an official change of party line... 🤔
can i install the BIOS update without an older ryzen processor? will the pc turn on and allow me to update the bios with the 5900x in it? I don't have an older cpu.
I just recently upgraded my Ryzen second gen to the 5000 series along with the 6900xt. CPU-Z is listing my board as now running PCIE-4! Also, Asus kept support for Ryzen 2nd gen. 1st gen and the APU CPU support was dropped. What I want to know is whether I can upgrade my NVME to a PCI-E 4 drive now and get the full speeds.
Keep in mind DC-DC regulation stage of most B450 boards are much worse than ones found in most X570 boards.
My ryzen 2600 is updated on my 450 for ryzen 5000.
My 2600 still works on my board and I’ll do the swap this weekend.
how was it? what cpu youre using now?

Great video btw!
how doyouknow your board supports the new cup's? cus i have a MSI x470GPLUS and running a 2600x but have the latest bios
For anyone interested. Just updated my ASUS X470 HERO VII with the 2600 and works like a charm.
Not irreversible? Shouldn't it say 'not reversible? Not irreversible is a double negative which makes it a positive i.e. it IS reversible.
That's his point. it is reversible. You can go back to previous BIOS and put an older cpu in it
sir just to make it clear, do you mean for example I have ryzen 2600 on b450 motherboard and then I decide to update the bios for ryzen 5000 after that I cannot use ryzen 2600 anymore? and also I cannot revert back the bios to make my motherboard work again on 2600?
May i ask what is the best mobo in ryzen 5 3600xt?
It's still dependent of BIOS memory size, and whatever the motherboard vendor included in it's newest latest and greatest BIOS, something AMD itself doesn't control.
Can anyone help I have an msi x470 and updated the bios and my 2600 still works with it but my new 5600x just shows a black screen when I boot
Post in msi forum.
Maybe remove the settings battery and retry, it's got a beta status so it could be too early for normal users.
Updated Bios on B450.. MSI Board.. has support for 5000 and still runs 2600X no problem..
same i have the r5 2600 and also still working for me ;) maybe they changed the bios updates
Will Ryzen 5 5600x work stable on Steel legend 450M?
yes
yes it should
They say that Ryzen 5 5600x is not stable on Steel Legend450M
Just flashed an Asrock x470 Gaming ITX with Ryzen 5k support..

Do you have a special flash port for that? My x470 gaming k4 has a flash utility but I don't see any special usb port
