the lowest recommended upgrade for a 5900x is a x470 chipset.. ive read that on Asus website, ive read that everywhere.. I would not try to and upgrade from a that board.. your vrms wont be able to handle the amount of power for 3 generational gap and an additional 8 cores or what ever the difference is.
Still on an old AsRock ab350 pro 4. Recently updated and installed a 5900x last night. I’ve got a high airflow case with 6 fans installed, but even using a wraith prism it was staying at about 71-72 under load. I installed a vetroo v5 that I had already installed and put 2 fans in push pull. It dropped temps maybe a degree or so but I actually saw it boost to 4.9ghz at one point. My cinebench multi core score is slightly low, just over 20000, but not enough difference to justify a board change. This should hold me over until I eventually decide an upgrade is justified.
you should take the time and undervolt your new cpu.. the asus website and all other information out their explains that the X-470 pro chipset and vrms supports the 5900x.. thats the limit... not even the next chip up being the 5950x because of power draw and stability issues... and for god sakes get a better cooler dude. wish you all the best hope your system is still running just fine, but its ill advised
Thank you for this video! I have the ROG Strix X470-f and didn't think I needed to upgrade since it's got the same MOSFETs as the Crosshair, but I wasn't sure. Maybe I'll go with the 5950X and shut off a few cores if it gets too hot.
