    After struggling with driver for 12 years I finally used the driver as a fairway wood setup and I'm back. I can hit both 3 wood and 5 wood well. Many would say if you can't hit the driver just hit the 3 wood. Now I have a new love for driving. Thanks Shawn.

      @@golflessons my issue is the follow through. I watched another set of your videos where you say the ball will go where you follow through. I'm doing my best with that as I have a tendency to peak for the ball early and move.

    I've got the new Ping G410 plus driver coming next week! I typically tee the ball very high so yesterday I tried your tip and honestly it changed my whole game! I may of played my best round this season by using that tee it lower tip! Keeping my drives in play and really didn't suffer with any distance my whole game came alive!! As always your just the best instructor Shawn! Cheers

    Hey Shawn. You are teaching one of my signature shots. When fairway gets tight, I will hit driver off the deck. Also, I sort of use your anti shank setup. See one of your videos from long ago. With toe of club up, giving extra room and actually more bounce. Loving your instructions and enthusiasm and passing the word. 👍

    I’ve always struggled with the driver but have managed to develop a good drive with my 3 wood and 5 wood. However, it has always been a frustration that I could not hit my driver. I think it’s been a mental issue. When I see the ball high up and so far forward I lose sense of direction and also question the path of my swing. I have now tried the method you have demonstrated in this video during the last three rounds I have played Shawn. The results have been really good, especially today. I play links golf at Royal Cinque Ports and today was very windy and wet. Using my driver as a fairway wood on steroids I hit tee shots to places on the fairway I had never ever been to before. This gave me much higher lofted approach shots into the green. On the long 16th par 5 I was even on the green in two shots....driver off the tee and 5 wood in ! I managed to score 42 points for my round.
    This is still work in progress for me but thank you for confirming that the driver can feel like and operate like my already successful fairway woods.
    My golf was transformed 18 months ago when I discovered your tuition on you tube and this driver video feels like finding the missing piece of the jigsaw puzzle.
    Thank you, Tim

    I wonder if you know a fellow Canadian Kelly Murry, I took some lessons from him a dozen or more years ago and he was a Moe Norman disciple that has several things in common with your teaching. He could hit driver off the deck also which I witnessed playing a round one day. I couldn't adjust to his way of power hitting but for some reason your version is making more sense to me. I am a bit worried about switching to a hands leading the club head but want to give it an honest and serious attempt so I will be getting the Skype lesson package for a few months. I still haven't been able to go tho the range yet but maybe today it is raining but covered. I want to try some things before I sign up.

      Right on, yes, have had some terrific conversations about Moe and Golf with Kelly! Nice man! As for hands forward...we do everything in life that way with all sports and disciplines; we are completely built and wired for this and that is why you see us using simple tasks like cutting grass, throwing clubs, casting fishing poles towards targets not golf balls, hammering THROUGH door frames etc...

      @@golflessons So I just got back from the driving range and I'm sold. The irons are going to be easier to get working right but I was hitting a 13-14 year old Callaway X20 7 iron about 165 -175 yards, I can't wait for my new Cobra Rad speeds to get here. So that's about 20-30 yards further than I was hitting it. The 4 iron was going about 220ish, again, with a club that is really old. The driver is going to be a little more work. It took me a while to find the right place to address the club head. It ended up being about an inch in front of and 12-13" behind the ball. The ball was literally not in my sight picture. All I was concentrating on was the path I wanted to trim the grass and the ball was in that path. I think my problem is that the ball is no longer in my sight picture and the timing of the hands and club head is too erratic. I'm going to work on it some more and I'll contact you for a video review and then I'll work on it some more and do a Skype lesson. But I've seen enough to know the potential so I'm going with the Eagle plan to begin. P.S. When I hit the driver sweet it went about 240ish carry which compared to the irons is not quite as good but they were range balls. I'll practice in a net with a Mevo and see what I can do with some quality balls.

    I used to do this with my Great Big Bertha 8 degree driver during my varsity golf years and I recall being more accurate back then than I am now. My drives were a little lower but never felt that I lost any distance since it seemed like it was more penetrating had more roll hitting fairways. I should go back to this setup and try this again with my already outdated R11. Your videos are great Shawn! Your methods of teaching remind me of my high school coach Smitty.

    You make it so simple. How do we stay with the whip along the ground? I tend to hit the ground near the back foot. Is it the tilt angle or height of the back swing that makes the club skip the ground? 5.40 to 6.0 is golden. Not sure how to duplicate the tilt, posture, stance etc. I have seen your weed whip tool video as well. Not able to duplicate it. Any advice ?

    Good afternoon sensei! I see the logic - does this mean we are teeing up lower to centre of the club, placing the clubhead a little closer to the ball but still sweeping it off the top of the stem?

    • @golflessons
      @golflessons  4 года назад +1

      No! You are sweeping the grass with the sole of the club; and when you do this (just like a fairway wood) the tee is just barely high enough for the ball to meet the club face a hair above the equator. Shawn

    • @golflessons
      @golflessons  5 лет назад

      No, you are simply sweeping along the surface of the ground!

  • @jgm4661
    @jgm4661 5 лет назад

    Good tip. Another tip along the same lines was pretend the teed ball is a dandelion and you are just trying to clip the bottom of the flower w the bottom edge of the driver. I find you can get into all kinds of trouble teeing the ball higher and trying to catch it on the way up. You can lean back, the swing plane starts to get to out to in which is bad for a host of reasons, flip the wrists etc etc.
    I think most people who sing at least avg say 90 mph don't need to hit way up on the ball either (vs flat or slightly up ) for supposedly more distance through less spin, higher launch and more carry. Found at the range almost no difference in distance varying the ball height.

      Shawn Clement Sorry for my English. There is a misunderstanding. Absolutely agree wee need to use entire body. Bat that is only my opinion based on my Thai chi experience.

      Please pay no mind to this! The bottom is not flat and appears this way and with irons, it should be up as well; DO NOT TRY TO KEEP FLAT. The G forces in the swing pull down on the club’s toe at the bottom and flatten things out. See “driver speed and smash shawn clement golf wrx” for the hovering version!

      If you have some success with a fairway wood, then hitting the driver this way will seem easier when you use the sole of club as a rudder to skip towards that intermediate point with a nice free whipping action! Hey Shawn! Great video! Won't accuracy be a function of club face/club path? I don't understand how teeing it low will give us more accuracy off the tee. I might have missed the explanation (even after watching it twice! :-)). Thanks!

    • @golflessons
      @golflessons  5 лет назад +1

      One of my (our) strengths at Wisdom in Golf, because of the turf interaction we focus on with our tools, is the fairway woods. If the sole of the club skips and or deflects in the direction of the intermediate point, the face will come in very nice and square to that path.
      So when lowering the tee and playing the driver just like a fairway wood with a perfect lie in the fairway, you get the same rudder effect with the sole of the club and the result is accurate drives that go 15 to 20 yards farther than the 3 wood; which is what we all want! 😀👍
