I'll be making this for sure! Thank you
When my brothers and I were kids our parents did something fun for us...there were certain things Mom would make and we thought it was a special treat, somehow she and daddy got us thinking we were having extra special treats...it was ACTUALLY their "right before payday" meals desperation...POTATO SOUP was one of these...the bacon was used to cook the onions and left in then for extra flavor..we liked onions so she used a lot..It was a creamy/milk soup not very thick and we like it that way...she made biscuits from Bisquick, that I remember...the whole thing was a treat, we were allowed to eat in front of the TV which made it another treat..funny looking back on that..our parents were barely thirty, I was in the 4th grade almost 10, one brother 81/2 and one brother 4..
we had homemade jam preserves from grandparents trees...later we had our own trees but at this potato soup remembrance we were renters w/o fruit trees...homemade biscuits, big bowls of hot potato soup what more was wanted? NOTHING...my parents long gone, a brother too, I'm almost 79 and this video got me remembering a happy evening in 1955 ....
I loved hearing your story of your family , it makes you feel good to have memories like that . Be blessed !
I love his story too
Good memories! Sounds like you were blessed!
Beautiful memories 💖
I make potato leek soup with potatoes, onions, carrots and leeks. I add chicken or veggie bullion and garlic for seasoning. I think it cures any ailment that’s ailing you. It’s a must have during cold and flu season. 😊
I really like that no flour base is what I like. Glad I saw this! Too many people make a flour gravy. I don't see the need for that the potatoes will thicken it if they do what you do. I an going to make your recipe. Real simple. Thanks.😊
Why can’t you eat flour? It’s delicious.
During the Great Depression, my Grandmother made potato soup almost daily to feed her family. She made potato only meals days on end.
what ingredients did she use?
Those cooks were so creative!
@@doubleaxeman9896 1# bacon cut in small pieces; 1-16 oz can whole kernel corn; 1 chopped onion (no particular size pieces); washed potatoes cut into slices; 1-8oz can condensed milk; 1/4 # butter; put it all in a pot at the same time, put in 12-16 cups water, bring all to boil. When the potatoes are to your satisfaction, wait five minutes for all six of us kids to get to the table, serve. Was the best soup ever and I still make it Mom's way: nothing fancy or time consuming. (Six hungry kids don't wanna wait for fancy.) Best when served with thick slices of fresh made bread smothered with butter and tall glasses of whole milk. (Oh, got to add: we grew up in the 50s when life was real.)
My Grandparents lived in Ireland for a good part of their lives,so potato soup was made often when they moved to Canada
Celery's a gotta have.
Today I had potato soup for lunch. Basically just potatoes and onions.
I used four medium yukon gold potatoes (cubed), 2 small red onions (finely chopped), 1/4 of a large Spanish onion (chopped finely), (and, since it was in the fridge, a bit of chopped cauliflower). I don't use salt, so used a vegetarian boullion cube, a few shakes of pepper, a sprinkling of all purpose seasoning, a pinch of nutmeg, all covered with water. I cooked it on the stovetop for 40 minutes and then used a potato masher to mash about half of the potatoes and to leave a bit of texture. I sprinkled chopped spring onion over for garnish.
Delicious with toasted sourdough bread. Very budget friendly. A quick and easy meal.
No milk or cream?
Big Fan of Potatoe Soup , it's such a cheap
delicious soup, loads of Potassium to keep up
Healthy!
Thanks for sharing the recipe...I believe I'm going to add some broccoli and cheese...yummmm
This is how I make potato soup. Also good if you add some ranch dip mix, not a whole packet but about half a packet.
You just came up on my RUclips, my Mom used to make potato soup just like this. So delicious! Brought back wonderful memories, thank you. I subscribed too.
Welcome!
I make my grandmother, Granny’s potato soup. She had been born in the UK. It’s wonderful!
Celery always goes in mine. I often cook in chicken stock, thicken with a rue and evaporated milkr, and for more of a chowder add cooked carrots and peas. I sometimes do drop dumplongs as well.
What time should I be there for dinner 😂😂😂❤
Wow I would love your receipt
My mom cooked up 6 medium red, pared, cut up potatoes and cut up yellow onions in a larger saucepan (about 1/2 cup) (7 in our family) in salted water until potatoes were soft. Then she drained the water in a mesh strainer to make sure she got all the onions. She put the potatoes and onions back in the pan and added enough milk to near the top of the saucepan and 1 cube of oleomargarine and some more seasoning and as soon as the soup was hot, she would serve it.
I love potato soup and must try this...😊 Thank you.
Yes! Let me know what you think!
Love potato soup 😋
I like to add cheese and some tender broccoli to my soup

I love potatoes definitely going to learn to make homemade potato soup I know I will add fine chopped onions, red& green pepper maybe some chopped broccoli florets. Doesn’t look like you can mess it up
I'm not a Picky eater,So to me a lot of things would be good in it,You can add Some drained whole kernel corn,Some ch. Or sliced green onions,Or maybe even a few white beans drained, You could even drop in a few dumplings in it,
Whip up an egg or two,Add some flour to it,Stir well,Drop into the mixture,
Blessings always ❤️
I like to add sour cream along with the cheese, green onion, and bacon.
I also add celery in my potato soup.

Thank you for this recipe my mother made this soup when I was growing up and I loved it!
Yummy. Pot is ✅ fast and easy
Yum. Thanks!👍
Thank. You I have been looking for soup recipes this beates others and in making a batch each bowl can be different thanks
Thank you for sharing
I like to add some cooked wild rice and sautéed mushrooms to mine, and plop a few turkey meatballs in as well. I make this all the time in cooler weather, with red potatoes that I don't peel. I cut the potatoes into spears, then slice them crosswise, so I don't end up big sheets of skin. Little ribbons are fine :)
Celery gives you great flavor and chicken broth works good too ,both of them.
I was lying in bed thinking about corn chowder and this video came up. Thank you
Throw a can of drained corn in the pot. Yum
Thanks for the video. I usually use whatever I have when making soups. I have potatoes, carrots, celery, a bit of onion leftover. Could even put some bacon in, top the tater! Single, so it's going to be good! Haha.
This sounds and looks so good. I'll have to try this.
Thanks for the recipe
You're welcome! Hope you enjoy it!
Wow, so many combinations. 🤤
Looks yummy!!
Good base thank you
A potato masher works very well too
I put diced pork. In my soup.celery.carrots😛😛
❤ I Love Potato Soup
This would be a great party soup with the base soup with many many fixings . Possibilities are endless. 😅I love the look of those pans as well . Of course they are truthful . It’s the internet after all. 😅😅😅
YES!!
Looks really good 😊
I make mine like iron rose but I use stock instead of water
This would be a good recipe for rutabaga golden potato soup as well.
Got to have celery in mine. And I add chicken bouillon to the water. I don't waste all that flavor.
Great advice for flavor.
I use celery seed.
I add celery .but. I pulverize the celery before adding in .flavor city.celery is key
@@elainedemers1940OH TOTALLY❤😊
😊 chicken Stocks the one! There is a difference!
Looks delicious. Real potato soup. Once you start adding veggies and meat its no longer potato soup to me. Cheese and bacon is all I add.
Corn in my potato soup some type of fiber❤😊
I made soup similar to what your making. But I added a can of cream of chicken soup. And ground beef with taco seasoning in it along with bacon bits, along with chicken broth with cheese. And a 2 pound bag of hash browns and cream cheese.and onions.
I add a can of drained clams and a little bacon
Yummy
That's a good idea!
With the cold weather, this makes for a great meal. With a few added touches it’ll work out fine. A peave of mine though, I don’t eat anything made meal the cook constantly touch their hair or face. 😮
Thanks
Very good👍
My mom always used evaporated milk
I made ham and potato soup and added bacon cheese
Celery and chicken Bouillon added gives Good flavor plus Bacon bits
Start with fresh dig potatoes no inside potatoes that sit for days i didn't list how she made her but my mom made it she used only fresh potatoes it does make a big difference
😋 yummy
Add leek yum😊
would it be ok to use whole milk instead of cream? ty, i'm a beginner in the kitchen but would love to make.
I haven’t tried it but I would think so!
My mother always used milk. There were 6 of us kids and she couldn't afford anything more
@@judicovey9835 thank you so much, I will make with milk as the price of cream seems outrageous to me, it;s snowing here in Boston this morning and I will make this soup today..cheers to you
@@clamrocks you can use canned evaporated milk too...a little creamier
@ thank you, Iv'e had a can of E M on my shelf forever with no clue what to do with it, not expired yet so now I am making this soup today..cheers from Boston
I like cream cheese in mine!
Love it
this is the very best potatoe soup I have ever seen. Most want to put chicken stock and I refuse to eat that!
try pulling the peeler toward you. it really is faster and less messy - no potato "juice" splashes!
Cajun spice with the salt and pepper and maybe just very small shop to green onions
Cast iron is non stick if well seasoned if burned crust simply heat up and sprinkle cool water it will separate and scrape of with wood spoon
😅I love rotisserie chicken green onions, and riblets oh yeah and add knorr chicken flavor. Beef isn't to bad either😊
Yum I’m a newbie here just rang your bell 🛎️ 👍✌️ 9:05
Woohoo! Thank you!
Use the golden potatoes as their skin is VERY thin and rich tasting!
I also make potato soup. I’m wondering why you add water to the potatoes and then remove most of the water. Do you do this to take the starch out of the potatoes instead of rinsing potatoes before putting them in the pot. Thank you. Also leeks are good in the soup.
I cook my potatoes in chicken broth. I also add a can of creamed corn which thickens it up.
Use chicken stock....and stir a big spoonful of sour cream into it just before serving.
Do you rinse the cut-up potatoes first to get some of the starch out before you cook them, or do you want to leave all the starch in?
Justadd a good shake of CAJUN Seasoning , and Perfection !
Looks good in Jupiter Florida
I do not use baked potatoes. I use Idaho hash brown's. Saved a lot of time.
Such a god idea. I will try your method too. Thanks.
Thanks for the tip
Yes, my husband likes to use those for convenience. I prefer the natural potato so it depends on if I want to cook or not that determines if I make issue of it. 🤭😂🙄
Great idea
I add kale or broccoli. Sometimes, I use Italian mild sausage.
I always make a rue to thicken my soup
Does this taste like my favorite potato soup from Bennigans, which isn’t around anymore. I loved it.
I remember Bennigans! We use to go there all the time! Great soup!! (Food).
Yum😊
Sure will beautiful 😍
My potato soup,I add celery, instant potatoes, sour cream, add some cream cheese. I put chicken boullion, butter, cook it slow. And when all of the ingredients are cook. I put parsley on top.
Instant potatoes? No.
I use a pint of heavy cream and a quart of half & half
Yum!!!!!! 😋🥰🇺🇸
Green chilis, diced , cheese,
With lots of garlic!
I add Cheddar Cheese Soup and a little garlic salt
YUM!
I have to have celery in mine. Other than that, I make it the same way.
What cream do I add???
Kernel corn, green beans, leftover ham, sour cream, cheddar cheese, fried onions, 1 leftover fried chicken breast (cut up), leftover hamburger
The only potatoes I have found in a long time that actually taste like a reAl potato are at Fred's in Altus, Oklahoma. The Baked Potatoes are Our Of Thos World Wonderful. They are so fluffy every time. Foil wrapped. I just can't figure out how on earth they make them. It's the buzz around Oklahoma and beyond...'How do they do that???'. Oh well... In the meantime I will be trying the recipe on this Video. Fun Presentation! WE DEVOUR POTATOES❤😂🎉
Just curious, what is the coffee maker in the back ground?
I do cheese, onion, ham,& a can of creamed corn 😮
I would have added more salt. Potatoes need lots of salt.
Sour cream
Bake chicken sounds good. Some cheeses, chives and bacon 🥓 for the bacon 🥓 lovers.
Carrots are great
Cool
Extra sharp cheddar cheese and bacon!
