    Thanks, Aaron, for all your informational videos on one stick climbing and the gear needed. I've been refusing to allow myself to consider it but have finally caved and am ready to give it a try. I appreciate all that you contribute to the saddle hunting community. 👍🏼

    When contending with branches, do you rappel to the next branch, hook up your lineman, then retrieve the tether and move it below the branch to ladder your way down? I imagine if you're contending with multiple branches, it might be tough to retrieve the rope in one shot from the ground.

    Nice video. I also think someone need to touch on rappelling from a leaning tree. I personally start the same way you did in this video but after I removed my stick I then allow myself to go to the side of the tree that gravity wants me on. I used to try to walk down the high side but too many times gravity would swing me around when I was 3/4 the way dow. Now because the rope is so long you have less control. My suggestion is to get to the low side as soon as possible so you don’t have to fight gravity or worry about swinging around on a 20’ rope.

    Can you repel down the tree using a regular hunter safety harness?

    • @platinumpursuitoutdoors
      @platinumpursuitoutdoors  Год назад

      As long as your harness has an attachment point to the rappel device via a Caribbeaner, I don’t see why not. I’m not sure how the hunter safety system would distribute pressure, but I’m sure it could be done.

    Really like your videos! I'm torn between the madrock or a simple figure 8.. My questions are do you store your rappel rope in a dump pouch or in your pack? Do hang off it the entire hunt or transition to it from a standard tether at the end of a hunt? And lastly, whats been your experience rappelling out on a wet or icy rope? Thanks!!

    • @platinumpursuitoutdoors
      @platinumpursuitoutdoors  Год назад +1

      Go with the Madrock hands down! When your in the tree and you need to make a quick move raising or lowering your tether it is sooo easy!
      Also.. from the ground I tie a figure 8 in the bottom of my rappel rope and use that to pull my backpack up. I use the rappel rope the entire time.
      One of the BIGGEST downsides to one stick climbing is when it rains! You get wet when advancing the stick up the tree etc. sometimes when you have a wet rope it “sticks” when rappelling, but it still works.

      @platinumpursuitoutdoors sweet! Thanks! Not sure I'm gonna jump on the 1 stick wagon just yet, but I've used the tethrd one sticks since they came out, and paired with the gc1 3 step aider, it'll definitely be easier than coming down on the aider.

    Question, where did you buy the rope brake. Or whatever it's called lol

    • @platinumpursuitoutdoors

      It’s a Madrock Safe Guard. You can pretty much pick them up anywhere now.

  • @guitarwilly81
    @guitarwilly81 2 года назад

    And obviously one needs a very long tether for enough rope to repel. 30' probably. What do you do with all the slack hanging at hunting height?

    • @platinumpursuitoutdoors
      @platinumpursuitoutdoors  2 года назад +1

      I roll it up and stick it in my pack. Works great. Or you can put it in your roll pouch.
