Take care
Despite the obvious overweight every EV car has, I really expected a lower time from a 204 PS EV car.
still dependent on the transmission.
could you do the same test with full battery? :)
yeah 55% SOC might be loosing a bit of perf
With 55%SOC you should really have no power decrease....
🥴no car will be too heavy😹
@@markustrollable well the voltage goes lower with SOC, so might be noticeable (few tenth of sec)
Won't be different.
Interesting test. I understand that the sport mode is the most powerful, right?
As for the autonomy range at 120km / h and 130km / h, is there much difference? thanks for the video
Limited to 160km/h? Embarassing for a german car company
Well, if you drive normally on the autobahn, you get ~250km or range (in good weather) and it charges for ~1 hour afterwards.. If they would unlock 200km/h+ and you go that fast, it would probably have sub 150km range, so it basically takes more time to charge than you are driving...
And yes it is very embarrassing, teslas battery in the model 3 SR+ is smaller, the car has more range and the battery can handle double the current (2x faster charging + more power draw). Furthermore tesla cells are made with less cobalt.
Timo Witte drove an id3 1st today. Ride is smooth but the interior is so crowded I hate it. That A pillar near de windshield is terrible. It s not even close to a model 3
@@vuduman3000 Yeah the interior / lacking software is another story.. The biggest disappointment in my opinion is the battery technology, as this is the limiting factor here.. The inverter to drive the motor doesn´t break the bank if you design it to handle double the power, same goes for the motor.. Probably the existing inverter / motor would handle higher currents easily for a limited amount of time (restricted by heat)... As long as you don´t run into magnetical limits with the permanent magnets in the motor, you can pretty much drive current through it as much as the battery voltage / internal resistance allows.
Judging by the 125kW charging limit, either the cell chemistry can´t handle the high currents or the cooling system is way undersized...
One thing i would be interested in: Internal battery pack resistance comparisons between the Model 3 SR+ and the ID.3.. I guess the ID.3 has a higher cell resistance..
@@vuduman3000 Lol. If the model 3 and the ID.3 were ICE-cars no one would even compare them. The model 3 is 30% more expensive. Even more when considering you can lease the ID.3 for 330 euro / month whereas the Model 3 is close to 600 euro/month...
SOC play big role, you should test with 100% and warm battery..
Good try, but very slow for an EV . Needs a Tune up. How about some Tesla batteries? That should do the trick.
Most Evs are in that power range, Especially in that size.
I suppose that the battery has the may current it can deliver safely. If this is so, fully charged battery at optima temperature should be able to deliver a bit higher max power because of higher voltage.
BTW, did you notice any wheel spin?
80 - 120 km anyone? edit: Found it, 5.1 sec exactly like i3
I love the white interior!!! You Are in love with it:-)
I'd love to see a 100-0 brake test too
Do you have some content about the app and maybe the mobile key, to unlock the car with the phone? Also something about preclimate? Is this possible to climate the car with the app, when connected to the wallbox?
0-100 is 6.88 sec in sport mode it has instant torque
I used Sport mode.
Believe me this car is alot of fun my friends have the exact same spec, its epic
The battery charge level does have a definite affect, because the voltage is down.
Yes, you're right, But at least that's really what happens in real life since we won't always drive in full charge
@@umah. Agreed, any EV feels quick and is much better to drive.
You need a dragy
Wow 160 😳
Great video 👌 this is the first time for me to see someone really put the ID3 to the test.
Wow thats a big moped
If you want to properly measure acceleration you will have to buy a Dragy and find a perfectly flat spot, doing it like you did is too inaccurate… and you should charge the car to a 100%. While it may not display any limitation the car may reduce acceleration a little as battery levels drop, it’s barely noticeable, but you should keep that in mind.
thanks correct
It will never be accurate. I don't have a track either.
@@BatteryLife You should try to get a dragy, they are not that expensive, about 150€. It will come handy for testing cars. I know you don't think acceleration is that important, but many do and will want to know. And regarding a flat area, the dragy will help you to find a good spot as it tells you the slope of the area where you did the test.
Uuu very slow acceleration. German EVs have low power engines, so these could be more efficient - people accelerate less, battery then has more range. This is the trick for worse technology. Tesla has so much more power and so much better range.
But when the Tesla has fallen apart in pieces, this still looks, drives and perform like a brand new car..
It’s a car for efficiency not for speed
Nice beautiful Vw ID.3😊❤👌👍
Could you do the same from 60 and 80 to 160 ? Oh and could you talk about the input lag/reaction time, like from the time you push the pedal at 60 and the cars stars pulling with full force, like input lag from a mouse or keyboard over bluetooth.
When it is summer again, I can do that.
In sport mode, almost no input lag.
Doesn´t the batteries have to be more charged >80 % in order to get better figures?
I did a second video at 95%, no difference.
Could you do a video of how much regen braking does the ID.3 have ??
Thanks Chris !!!
It is like eGolf. Hard to test that.
@@BatteryLife Thanks for the answer. I will check your vid of the VW e-Golf XD
@@gery4870 it's poor, if you have driven a Tesla.
@@jonathan6665 At home we have a Model 3 XD.
Otherwise I haven't tested yet the ID3 :=)
@@gery4870 i have a model 3 too and i tried the ID3. The regen is not hard enough and sadly you can't do one pedal driving.
In sport mode the blue bar doesn't show full throttle at the beginning. I think it even can go faster with a wheel spin. :) The sport mode is more like comfort sport mode
Seems pretty slow?
Adequate for what it is.
Why is the Test with a very low battery?
That's a really slow car, OMG. :-O that's not an EV acceleration! It's definitely cut by software.
It is the same acceleration as the Koreans and Nissan Leaf. But it is not Tesla.
@@BatteryLife no it's quite slower: ruclips.net/video/_uwE7pZkAaI/видео.html
ruclips.net/video/-ybCP1cLKBI/видео.html
@@markustrollable You can't see much other than speedometer, it could also be a bit downhill. It was just once in only one direction, but also no very noticable differance at all.
Also note that Hyundai Kona has the same, Nissan Leaf has +10kW power.
@@markustrollable That nissan leaf video shows it taking 7.00s to 100km/s. This video demonstrates the ID.3 taking 7.01s to 100km/s. I don't know about you but I wouldn't call that "quite slower".
Great video chris
can you do some test from 80 to 120 and 100 to 160?
Meanwhile my hemi ram truck can do it in 6.7 seconds.
and get 9mpg
Just discovered your channel, really interesting videos, thank you. Subscribed !. i was wandering have you ever driven the BMW i3? how does the driving experience compare ? it looks like very similar performance, and the ID3 is alot more practical and spacious, from the internet feedback it also looks like the VW is alot more stable on the highway .
Thanks.
No, BMW gave me a Mini Press car, that I am testing right now. But no i3.
If you press mode several times in my Max, it will spread through all 4 modes in turn, Eco-Comfort-Sport-Individual
That is possible.
Very impress 80-120 kmh 4.6s with low bat
Yeah: 80 to 120 (or even better 60 -120) is when you're stuck behind a lorry on a winding German country road and you want to overtake, or when you're on the on-ramp of the Autobahn or if you're stuck behind a lorry and want to merge into the fastlane. So I would love to see more 60-120 and 80-120 times in car reviews. 0 to 100 is rather pointless to me.
Everything else is shit when i think of a Tesla lol.
Than buy one ;)
Thank you. İ have a question. Which battery cooling system ID 3 has? Air cooling, liquid cooling(with water or Ethylene Glycoll)? Do you have any information?Take care
The last thing this car needs is a sports mode. My i3 has only 2 modes and that’s enough
i drove one today and it was the 204 PS one but it was way faster in eco. it got to 100 in around 7 seconds
If you press full and do the kick down button. You are out of eco. Safety function if you need power.
@@BatteryLife aah ok. Nevertheless, its an awesome car
It is
@@BatteryLife the one i drove had the larger battery. It goes from 0 to 100 faster than the Golf GTI. Thats what the folder said that was included with the car. I believe they let me drive it to see what i think of it. I have to say it changed my mind on EVs
Does 0-100kmph time change according to battery temperature?
No idea
man your vids are so helpful
Thank you
Dream car!
is the 200hp version?
Yes
Does the id3 come with run flat tyres as standard?
You can choose them. Some packages include them.
Battery Life Thank you.
I can recommend to use Car Scanner for this kind of test.
You can set different steps to record
Draggy would be better. But I do not have to be extremely accurate. I can't! I don't have a perfect long straight road without elevation.
150hp?
204
Kona 64 EV is 7,1 secs. 0 bis 100 and 16,3 secs. 0 bis 160. 60 bis 100 in 3,6 secs. So Kona is a little bit faster than ID3, I think the 395 (Kona) to 310 NM (ID 3) make the difference!
I have a Kona here. Will do a 0 to 100 with both cars on the same spot.
@@BatteryLife Nice. Should be dry! Your tests are gettin better and better, by t way...
Thank you. According to ev database Kona has 7,9s btw.
@@BatteryLife Auto Bild etc. much faster results...I guess, the data sheet is eco mode or something.
I just did the test. Times I will know at home. But even with summer tires it was hard to get the power down without spinning wheels in the Kona.
If the ID.3 is this slow, i have to drastically lower my expectations for the ID.4.
It doesn't feel slow. It is more than enough. But it is not a sportscar power.
@@BatteryLife i guess i was just hoping for the ID.4 to at least be equal to my Chevy Bolt/Opel Ampera E [ (low/flat 6sec)or my Mercedes B Electric (6.5sec). I think i will keep watching the used i-pace market since it can get down in the 4s. Btw, thanks for the id.3 launches.
@@travisburdess1071 The 306hp awd version of the id4 will do 0-100 in around 6 sec. Seems wierd to evaluate electric cars mainly on how unnecessary fast they can accelerate.
Not like vw makes sports cars, it's supposed to be budget cars for the people. Will have to wait for audi or porsche to make a car that fits your need if you care so much about performance.
@@VolvoMetal and the dual motor version might be sufficiently equal to my Bolt, at which point a whole list of other items come into question...
efficiency
charging speed
one pedal driving
No creep mode
I love both my current EVs (Bolt & Mercedes B electric) , but they have ingrained a level of expectation of at least parity in a possible replacement. As a fossil car replacement, its a no brainer, but when your moving between EVs, it's a much harder sell. And I understand, VW isn't trying to poach other EV drivers, they want ICE drivers, so it's fine. :)
@@travisburdess1071 Eh, not sure what you are implying. Positive the vw's have that and like twice the charging speed of the bolt.
Of course they want to sell to people who want to upgrade their ev, just because the bolt is still somewhat decent and you don't see it as a sufficient upgrade doesn't mean people with older leaf's, i3's and golf's don't.
is as fast as Renault Zoe 135HP?
No, Zoe needs 10sec.
Will charge speeds (around 80%) increase if you are remotely climatising the car cabin, or the charging rates remain constant?
I don't know. I think the charging power from the charger remains the same. But the car is taking the power to heat and cool from the battery.
Without charging and the home 2,3 kW plug, the car takes the plug to heat up the car.
Wie weit fährt der ID3 mit 180 km/h ?
Abgeregelt bei 160.
@@BatteryLife 160 ?
🤢 Volkswagen von 1976 fahren schneller. Was hat da Volkswagen heute gebaut?
Ganz normal bei vielen Elektroautos. Reicht auch!
@@BatteryLife
Reicht niemals!!! Jeder SUV fährt locker über 200. Wie langsam sollen die Mütter Ihre Kits Morgens zur Schule fahren? In Schneckentempo?
Can you the same test in reverse?!!
Sure ;)
dude, please by carefull.
BMW 130i 265HP 14,5s 0-160 kmh ,6,2s 0-100 kmh . The ID3 need 100HP more for real fun. ID3-R ;)
this car is sooooo quiet! amazing_ gonna be my next car!
very nice meaningful test ....... let s see if "El Born" will be below 4 sec
It wont be, it may drop to the low 6s but not much more, in order to have faster acceleration they would have to add a front motor or a more powerful one in the back. The Cupra el Born will have the same motor, it will be tuned for a faster acceleration and performance but it wont be a lot faster, just a little.
@@Gresteh thank you
Sure, 0-60 km/h
Ha, my Kia E-Niro is very very more quickly.80-120 kmh in 3,8 Sek.
Yeah, there's always a faster car somewhere...now you can tell your grandma that your KIA E-Niro is faster than an ID 3....wow, man , be proud
Tesla says hi
Why are ppl obsessed with tesla. U won't be hitting those speeds

Dont like it
"Before Bjørn test"
Bjørn’s already performed the test on and ID.3 1st with a draggy he got 6.89s 0-100. The plus is a little heavier and has bigger wheels but I don’t think it should make much of a difference.
Well, sort of... you can see his results in one of his livestreams. He is still needs to edit the video. He managed better times than Chris, Bjorn's results were a little under 7s, but he only tested sport mode and he did it with the car fully charged.
