General Robert Nivelle claimed that the offensive would accomplish in 48 hours and 10,000 casualties, but in reality, 187,000 casualties for French, 160,000 casualties for British, and 160,000 casualties for German. Moreover, Nivelle Offensive spent 24 days. Why did french soldiers mutiny ? Because their living conditions were "EXTREMELY BAD" and they suffered from the Battle of Verdun (that spent 10 months) and the Battle of Somme. Nivelle Offensive triggered french soldiers. However, when the mutiny had been suppressed, general Philippe Pétain (Lion of Verdun) promised the soldiers for improved their living conditions. French Government rehabilitated the mutineers in 1994. 77 years after the mutiny.
A lot of general at the time dreamed of doing an “all out 1 time knock blow to the enemy to win the war”, it always fails. Especially a lot of the generals failed to properly capitalise on new technology.
