Gets even sadder when you remember that's a real letter being read... there is really an Émile who wrote such a letter.
Le Dieu that’s fucked
May he rest in peace
;(
And a real Freddie, Anna, Walt,Victor, Karl, And Marie
@@raymondwelles615 Only the letters are real, all the stories around are made up. I don't think the dog wrote one.
"I fought for my country, my honor is assured" even 5 years later that line makes me feel so damn sad

"War makes men mad."
That line really hit me.
Madness makes war
Cuz war give men shell syndrom
“War makes men mad” is such a sad and depressing line because of how true it is and how often that people don’t realise the horrors that are experienced on both sides
its even sadder when you realize all the letters in this game are real letters. its a real emile, writing to a real marie
"Your loving papa
Always"

Emile died not being able to see his grandson again as well. That cut me deep...
Ik its so sad
And it’s not the enemy’s bullet. He died by a french bullet
I have watched it so many times and I almost cry every time
You think....it’s sad that Marie she lost her father and I can say that because I lost my dad when I was 10 to cancer and I’m 15 now
ToxicWolfGaming sorry that sounds awful
When I saw Jack tear up... oh man :(...
The cries of a boss spread sadness to many, but shows that even bosses win with big golden hearts...
Hay dawko....;-;
LightRaider96 nice bro :,(
Yeah I played and cried my eyes out. But watching Jack get teary and going through it again I broke into a sob. Jack, there is a side story for Walt. It's good to see the dogs of war story but it's a tear jerker.
I know them feels *hug*
Can you hear how his voice is breaking on "Always", so you can hear that he is scared ( 23:23 )
Because I can and I'm crying even harder than I did when I watched it like three years ago
i cant
I can’t hear the fear. It sounded more like pride to me. Maybe some contentment even.
I cried with Jack.
I feel your pain Jack.
May Emile be remembered.
he will be
dark knight it’s just so hard to forget he’s not real huh
Its just a game man
@@harperk1877 While the story of Emile and the other characters you play as is fiction.... The letter is a real one. So in the end, there was an Emile that was executed for killing an officer accidentally, leaving his family behind him, and this here was his last words to his famili (means there also was a real karl, probably dead too)

one of the saddest endings in gaming history.. hitted me harder than a bus
I remember watching when it first came up
I cried every time
2019 and yet the saddest endings in gaming
True :(
No it's not it is sad but what about john or arthur their deaths are so sad like you get to know them love them and their actions are what real people would do
Yep
Ja
Toker I thought that honor went to RDR2 Arthur’s ending?
The difficulty spike on the last Emile stage makes thematic sense- you start the game and there are all these fun setpieces and you have a definite villain and goal in beating Von Dorf, but by the end you’re just in a seemingly-endless straight sprint dodging bombs, waiting for machine guns, digging around pixel-perfect missiles, and wondering “what is this even _for?!”_
So true, didn't realize that. Kinda shows how people were so enthusiastic about joining up, but as the war went on they realized that, as jack said, "war is hell".
It quickly turned from hopeful and simple to complex and hopeless, like it’s all pointless! So many lives lost all for the sake of a meaningless victory
"War makes men mad." The emotion in that scentence was breathtaking. This actually made me tear up.
That and how true it is.
“A war to end all wars.
It ended nothing;
But it changed the world forever..”
One of my favourite lines about ww1.
Pakura Momochi the vile That’s pretty cool. We watch movies, videos and play games about war but we can never know the emotional and physical damage. After ww2, many Allied soldiers killed them selves because of what they saw. It’s sad but humans can never learn that war isn’t the right way.
Pakura Momochi the vile yeah. (Btw if you want to reply, click “reply” (pc) or click the 3 dots and then reply so I can see it. Cheers!
When you see War game reactions they say good graphics and badass but few think of what happens in the heads of those who fought in the war
Heroes fall but their name lives forever
That's beautiful

But legends never die
The greatest tragedy: Emile dying thinking Karl was dead.

Nah walking dead season 1 ending
Rdr2 Arthur morgan dying was just as sad.
@@sk1dzzz608not really, that’s completely fictional. this game has some sad reality to it
this is really late, but I just realized this out of maturity.
The old man and the thousands of people that served and died thought that they died out of honor and for a reason, as to end all wars with that one great war.
...Without knowing that another far more brutal, and far worse war is coming 20 years later.
Meaning that all their efforts are all in vain.
No sure there was more war but they didn't die in vain they died to stop the war and make sure we can be were we are today, to say they died in vain is wrong cuz they died for our country
@@KT-qk9ip this was world war 1. And world war 2 was what happened after, which was a lot worse than before. Nothing changed, which was just sad.
ww2 was worse but ww1 was more brutal, especially the horrible living conditions.

In short, as it was better put than I could ever say: "War makes men mad."
Even more sad, the Great Depression followed shortly after WWI, then 20 years after that, WWII started.
Kohaku Kitsune
Hopefully, Ubisoft will try even HARDER to rip our hearts out with that kind of content.
Historically speaking, it only gets worse from there. And, as awful as this is to admit this, the kind of tragedy that followed in the wake of WW I would make for even more great games to come.
I'm going straight to Hell.
JoeytheJoeyX3
Dude, that's history, unfortunately. You'd be going to hell if you made a game about not surviving a historical tragedy like Pompei or 9-11.
Kohaku Kitsune Heh, appreciated. Still, hoping for a game involving such bloodshed, bloodshed that actually happened in our real world... it still leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth.
I'm sure a follow-up to this game would be completely amazing. I just hate myself for wanting it. That all =P . No amount of kind words could wash away that, perhaps arbitrary, guilt.

Sorry to break it to you, but he had a year left. The Chemin de Dames was in November 1917, and the war ended in November 1918.
The song at the end is called “nurture” from Christopher Allen.
The song alone tells you a story.. you can hear it’s about saying goodbye to someone you love, and telling them how thankful you are for everything. That hope is not lost, but you’re time is over. If I could choose one song for my funeral when My time on earth is over, it would be this song, and my last words would be:
“I want to thank everybody who I ever met in my life, good or bad, friend of enemy.. i wouldn’t be the same without you.
I want to apologize to all the people I’ve hurt.
Im thankful for what’s been given and the fact I got a chance to be part of this world. ‘Hope’ is what kept me going.. And for all the people who ever lose hope... remember that you won’t see the light without darkness.”

Can i say something real quick?
War make men mad, war makes men cry, but we all know that every sacrifice to the war is worth it, even if you know or don't know if someone is alive then you would still fight for the people you love and care about. This game shows us how miserable and terrible war is and that every person who died has a back story, every soldier, every friend, even every enemy, what people show us is brutal and horrible because we don't have any mercy for those who have done so much for everybody, and deserve so much more, but they get nothing, they don't know if their family or friends are safe, even if they do the right thing they still die for it. That is what this game shows, people don't understand that people are people, not inhuman creatures that wander the planet fighting for nothing. No thats not it. What we are, are living beings who have hearts, and even though some of our hearts aren't beating... that doesn't mean that we still don't love or care about anything.
this guy deserves a Subscriber :)
Much as I respect the compassion, WW1 was a dumb war. It was driven by nationalist pride, with normal people paying the ultimate price as always. That's not an ideal worth fighting for on either side. I'd get my loved ones as far from Europe as possible or die trying. And if everyone did that, maybe the war ends quickly and more people can go home alive.
War destroys life and rights of people
This is beautiful but
It is not quick
Elias Alias a wars hunger draws in many. Nationalism drives people to extremes other wise they would not. Simple relocation nearly pushes the Nationalism else where, where the exact same song and dance play out, only on a different backdrop.
"The war was not yet over.
Its appetite is infinite"
Absolutely haunting words to end the game on and I cannot express how impactful they are especially after that gut wrenching ending.
Its not only the personification of a painful fact. But it also feels like a blatant insult.
Emile dies. War takes a father, a friend, a grandfather, a hero and yet the war still hungers for more victims.

this game is damn deep.... it shows how cruel the war is... it shows that every soldier has own story and it shows that a war can never have a happy ending... everything in a nutshell. this game is just a masterpiece. not because its gameplay and not even beacuse its story. beacuse thats the game witch have shown the people the most authetically how horrible the war is. even every little "fun" fact you can find during the game shows one horrible but true detail about the war.
let,s be happy we weren't born in a war and let,s hope our children will neither.
really like your opinion about authenticity this game has but i sure there other games show the horrors of wars. Like Cod WaW (sorry or just commenting it)
@@ardantop132na6 of course, there are a lot of other games where the story hits hard but personally the valiant hearths was the deepest experience of them all
@@vencelfoldi8236 i know. i cried too k? though if i remember this ending spoiled to me like probably 8 years and don't know bout plot and characters till binge-watch this today.
what i'm forgot to say is authentic doesn't equal sadness usually though Valiant Heart is so great makes emotional story i did cry a lot. unlike most emotional stories that doesn't make me cry.
Dont think cod does such a good job showing the horrors of war. Its more glorifies it. (Not their intent) battlefield does a really good job with the war stories and shows heroes. Espically battlefield one and the war stories. Excellent gameplay. Valiant heroes is amazing and in depth. Another good one is the company of heroes 2 campaign (although not as good )
Dearest Marie
As the war ends for me, I have no regrets, I've seen to much horror.
I hope fate has been more merciful to you.
Our time on Earth is brief, and mine as been filled with so much joy, that I can only be thankful for how much I've blessed.
Most specially for the wonder you brought into my life.
This letter is my last.
I've been found guilty by a military court for the death of an officer.
It was not my intention to kill him.
War makes men mad.
Though I failed Karl, I know my sacrifice has not been in vain.
I fought for my country and liberty, My honour is assured.
Since it is the will of God to separate us on Earth, I hope we'll meet again in heaven.
Keep me in your prayers,
Your loving papa,
Always
😢😢😢😢😢😭😭😭😭😭
Your loving papa Always (bang)
Aspect 101 Now *I'm* the one who's crying

i think i know what i means
another valian hearts game. ww2.
jack will cry again.
but still. it would be amazing for another valiant hearts game.
+Haus The Plague Doctor They got bought out and EA doesn't plan on releasing and iffy game.
“War makes men mad” I love this so much. One quote can make a video game become so real.
I think the dog is the narrator.
lol
No, he's partially right. For the trailer, the dog was the voice talking to you.
so a talking dog? that is werid
+Scylax WHAT?
Gr1m R34p3r The dog is the narrator telling the entire story. It becomes even more obviously apparent when you watch the trailer again. Same voice actor, same character with the narration. (It's supposed to be the thoughts of a human through a dog's mind.)
"Keep me in your prayers...... your loving papa...... always......" *gunshot* 😭
And if you want the intense way just do this "Keep me in your pray-" *gunshot*

As soon as Jack started crying, I started crying. It's just... It's sad to see such an energetic RUclipsr get so emotional, It's just so upsetting. Most of us can't bear to see Jack cry. Nor can I. We all can only hope that Jack is happy for the rest of his life.

Me too starfrost. Me too.
fulminated mercury seriously
That’s not even funny

The only reason I cried is when you think of how much he's been through. How much he kept fighting to see Karl, and then even after learning of his "death," he kept perusing, just for the sake of helping France in the war.
And then his country killed him...
Jack:"f'ing hell... stupid game"
Me: -smiling-..
