  • Finally pulled the trigger on a dual sport to compliment my KTM 390 Adventure. Don't worry the 390 is still going to be a big part of this channel. This
    I think with this bike I'll really be able to help people who are considering a dual sport or a smaller ADV understand the difference. I'll tell you that hoping on this bike was night and day difference from being on the 390 ADV.
    Let me know what mods you'd recommend for this bike and if you have any experience with clutch troubles on this bike. Currently the clutch lever needs to be almost fully depressed to prevent the safety switch from stalling the bike.

    Congrats! I have a 22' and love it. About 6K miles. I'd suggest following the recommended break in. Its kinda excruciatingly, supposed to keep rpm below 5k for like 400 miles or so, but my bike really woke up after the miles!! It felt like a different bike! Its modded out now, but I was satisfied with the performance after the break in, until I wasn't 😃

      Any specific mods you’d recommend?

    • @ndrew19
      @ndrew19 Год назад +2

      @makmoto7701 yep...1. Exhaust. I went with Delkevic, but I'd imagine that any brand would breath better than stock. 2. Modify air box snorkel. I replaced mine with a KX250 snorkel...same size outside dimensions so its a simple swap, but KX has larger inside dimension allowing more air flow. 3. Tuner. I went with EJC. Super easy install and I've had zero issues with it. Those 3 mods work together and make a huge difference. More air coming in and out, and more fuel from tuner.

      @makmoto0606 Just FYI...The biggest hp gain from a single mod is simply removing the secondary plate in the throttle body. I've seen dyno charts displaying almost 4 hp gain, and for an engine with 23 hp, thats huge. I'm guessing that every mod that I've done collectively will equal about the same gain. If you're curious, I'd suggest checking out the channel Best Dual Sport Bikes. Most of the content is about KTM/Husky, but he now owns a KLX300, and he really seems to be very knowledgeable. I was hesitant to remove the 2nd plate simply because I'd heard people warn against it and I was concerned that I was missing something, but my mind was put to ease after discovering this gentleman's channel. Good luck and I hope you're enjoying the bike.

      @@ndrew19 Yep, I’m familiar with that channel, because he also does the KTM 390 ADV. He gives great information and I will be doing that throttle plate mod, probably once I’ve completed my break in miles. Thanks!

    Not sure about the new klx300 but my 2005 model had really spongy breaks but once I ripped out the rubber brake lines and replaced them with braided stainless brake lines it has been great and has more than enough stopping power to pull up the 331cc big bore kit I had added to it! These bikes are as reliable as a drz400 if you keep up with the basics maintenance!

      Keep the stock brake lines. It will give you much more control offroad. The mod is great for the street, but the last thing you want is for your fronts to grab hard on a trail and wash your front end out.

      @@AnonYmous-dp4by I’m looking for a more positive feel to the brakes. I can handle the power, if I have the control. Thanks.

      I had ridden my klx300 for 91,000kms with the stock brake lines and top end for that matter and always hated the brakes, when I purchased my top end kit at b&b cycle restoration I seen that he also does a replacement brake lines so after 10,000kms of riding since I installed them I am very satisfied with the performance on and off road!

    Here is how I set up my bike for mainly trail riding, made the bike much better for off road use, gearing not as street friendly though. Removing the secondary throttle plate and tuning added 4 to 5 HP in the 6 to 7000 rpm range. I did that a year and a half ago, but there are a few videos out on this mod and tuning if you search for it.
    Delkavic slip on, KDX snorkel, secondary throttle removed, PCFC tuned for combo.
    Racetech gold valves front and rear, .46 kg/mm fork springs, 6.4 kg/mm rear spring. (185lb rider)
    D606 rear tire, MT21 front.
    IMS foot pegs.
    Renthal bars (less sweep than stock) and off set riser.
    14t front 46t rear sprockets.

      Happy with that tire setup? What did you think of the stock tires?

    • @nigel2447
      @nigel2447 Год назад

      @@makmoto0606 Stock tires are Ok for hard pack, for 90% dirt the MT21 front is much better, especially wet soft north east terrain. D606 is a goto for dual sport also. Other potential good choices to look at depending on the terrain, tons of internet info. Tires are must in my opinion if doing mostly off road.

    Pop the clutch lever switch open and adjust the contacts. It's pretty easy. Once you open it up you will see the gap. Same on my 2014 klx250s. Or you could make a jumper and bypass but the fix is sumple.
