I just bought a 390ADV and having the shop put Dunlop D606 tires on it. I pick it up next week.

I've dropped my so many times and will be replacing my OEM engine guards a second time. They bent so much on my last crash that the guard nearly touched the radiator. I must just be unlucky.

Wow, must be doing better crashes than myself! I’ve gone down quite a bit and just scuffed them up. If you want something more rugged check out Trex racing’s engine guards.

I would get the klx300 super moto and change out the tires, hands down.
The klx300 sm is the ultimate dual sport because it can do both on and off road really well, for the overwhelming majority of riders skill levels.
It's what I wish I could buy over the 390adv, which I'm getting the 390adv, because the klx300's arent sold in my market.
I don't consider the honda crf300 because it needs suspension work to keep up with the klx300, off road. While the klx300 does not require engine work, on or off road, to keep up with thecrf300.
I have the klx230 dual sport and sm models. The 230's lack grunt, but I'm hoping to take care of that with new sprockets.
But, what I've learned in owning both the sm and ds version of the klx230 is that the dual sport version is pretty bad on the mountain twisties here in northern thailand, as in not enjoyable. It's also very good in the dirt.
The sm is perfectly suited for all manner of asphault uses and good/very good in the dirt. Plus, the seat height is a bit lower while still being high enough to help see in traffic. Doesn't blow around like a sale in the wind.
The modern racing concept of super motos is easy to cause one to rule out a sm for their dual sport. But, in actuality the super moto was created as the first dual sport bikes, I watched on tv as a kid.
They only lack a proper set of tires and a weightless rider to be unicorn-ish on and off road. But, to be a unicorn, kawasaki would have to use their 399cc twin for a super moto. The bike to end all bikes(under 500cc :)
Interesting bikes for me, ha, too many to list, but
z650rs, in best slow bikes to ride fast
versys 400x in the worlds most rumored bike. I have saw exceptional renderings on youtube, very lately with both the new 4cyl and the 399cc parallel twin.
    kawasaki eliminator 400

I’ve heard people say that supermotos are great. But think I’d need the 21inch front wheel for the off-roading I want to do.

@@makmoto0606 the endless dilemma, lol. I saw how you intentionally showed the 390adv was too heavy and laid it down.
Does the 390adv lack engine braking in 1st or 2nd gear?
I’ve watched your rides, and you get quite a bit out of your 390 in the dirt, more then most.
You’ll want to go with an 18/21 set up for sure to get going more then you already do. KLX300 dual sport would be my choice in that case.
Unless you have no budget and you love the color orange, the klx300 is both capable and sensible.
Best luck n safe riding with whatever you get.
I’ve got 4 bikes, city, dirt, sport and sm.
      Just need a tourer/adv, a retro naked 😅 and a cruiser type 😅

@@robertdorr6607 more bikes the merrier! Sometimes the engine braking seems geared too high. I don’t think I want to dish out KTM dual sport money right now and I’d feel better beating up a klx or crf off road that cost half the price. I’m sure I’ll ‘test’ picking them up plenty.

@@scottsmith1897 Agree on the 690. I'd have to go to Vegas to get one right away and all dealerships seem to have a pretty high opinion of their shipping and setup fees. I think they're still riding high off of pandemic demand. Hopefully they'll come back down to earth on those fees. But Honda will have to start making some more bikes first! I was about to pull trigger on a local KLX but it disappeared just then. So I'm on the fence . Might wait until the fall when dealerships have more stock and bikes are hopefully plentiful. Just rock the 390 for everything this summer.

New tire tip - put a tube in it and inflate to get the side walls out for a few days before installing. Let it get some sun to loosen up before install. Bike choice - I went with a WR250R and making it into a mini-adventure bike for longer hauls. Will be testing it soon. If you want new, I think you are spot on with the CRF300L. Checkout Critter Moto who rides one all over for thousands of miles. Are you still liking the MSR Voyager? That’s how I found your channel. Cheers from Idaho!

Yeah the MSR Voyager is going to be my go to ADV gear unless I find it too hot later in the year. Pre inflating the tire was a thought I had after the fact. I’ll have to get a tube for that 👍🏻. I’ll keep an eye out for WR250Rs, too bad Yamaha discontinued it. From Moscow area by chance?

@@makmoto0606 if you are running tubeless you should still carry a tube in case your tire gets a slash or too big of hole to patch. Peace of mind if you are remote. I got the voyager gear as well but was looking for what others thought. I’m also a little worried for hot weather but living north we get it all so hardly a perfect suit is available.

Nice riding! I’m in the same dilemma. 390adv is great but I find myself on rougher offroad and want a lighter more capable bike. Im leaning towards the 500 exc-f as the next logical step. If you have no highway requirements the smaller bikes will be fine. On the 390adv the suspension and weight are the limiting factors for me.

Yeah, that's exactly why I went with it was to cover some distance, and I did just get out with it for a camping trip. It's great on the road. I just find I have some great off-roading nearby and want to be able to do some more challenging trails that a 390 isn't the smartest choice for. No knock on the 390, it's a great bike for adventure riding, just not a dual-sport.
