This makes me happy. :P Glad you appreciate Tool. It's refreshing to see someone understand this performance, for a change lol. As you noticed, his posture and mannerisms are intentionally performative to convey the struggle of the subject of the song and yet he is still able to belt out those notes. This was early Tool, as good as this is - they get much, much better. Enjoy the journey.
@@kailamay2278 - the approach that people usually use is… that they are seeing him actually struggle. That they can see the desperation in his eyes… and what-have-you. They don't seem to understand that he's performing for us. He's "in character". I'm not positive if that's what the main comment's meaning… but that IS the way other reactors approach this video.
Man I can't stop being jealous of people who are just now discovering Tool. I recommend you react to The Pot or The Grudge, I would say do the studio versions because Tool has almost no live recordings with good audio.
Julio Rodrigues. No, not the studio version. She should do lyric versions for a first time reaction. If she can find them. Tool’s label has recently been taking down lyric videos that were up for years and years. I think that’s because of reactors and ppl watching those videos rather than the official videos. But the first time listening to a Tool song is difficult because it’s hard to understand Maynard at times.
Glad you’re getting into TOOL! They’re not only musically talented but Maynard’s lyricism and word choice is nothing short of genius. He says things I’ve never heard any other artist in any other genre say. There’s so much from TOOL I can request. However, I’m interested in you reacting to “passenger” by Deftones which features Maynard. Because Deftones is another band worth looking into. You’ve earned another subscriber! Keep going
Great that you started your Tool journey here. I was at this very show at the Reading Festival back in 1993 when I was 20 (yes I'm old haha) and it was also my first time hearing Tool at that festival. Such a fantastic band, both musically and lyrically. I hope you enjoy the rest of your Tool journey. Great reaction from you too with some interesting points made :)
Tool army still coming lol..looks like everyone else explained just about everything, and yes it's refreshing you get it, a lot of folks thought Maynard was on dope which in fact he's one of the most sober guys you'll meet(besides his wine business lol)..good vid
Wise choice with the first reaction. For the most part, the band members keep themselves out of their videos and artwork. Now that you’ve seen them, you’ll be able to picture the members while listening. Since you are a singer, I would suggest the live version of their song Push It from their album Salival. That one is much more mellow, but his vocals are transcendent.
@@kailamay2278 Your sub count and view count will thank you. Mark my word, by the second or third reaction, you’ll see those number hike up exponentially.
The first time I watched this performance I was immediately hooked on this band and it has never stopped the talent all of them have is absolutely out of this world
There are a lot of bands that sound better while listening with headphones. With Tool, I consider it next to mandatory. Their albums are exquisitely mixed and as a band they have so many layers that go unnoticed even on a good stereo, it's criminal to miss. You honestly miss so much without them. Hope you dive a little deeper into the discography of this band. Enjoy the ride it's incredible. ✌🤘🤘
@@kailamay2278 , Sober is probably the song that hooked a lot of us when we 1st heard it back in the early 90s. Although they don't have a huge discography for being around as long as they have, it's really hard not to find a song you won't like. They're a very sophisticated band that has grown musically and exponentially since this early album. They employ a lot of polyrhythems and polymetres in their songs, so the trick to listening to them is to find the pulse of the music and watch how they weave the rythems around it. Then the lyrics use double entendres that leave the meaning and interpretation to each individual listener. Don't let the length of their songs keep you from exploring. I highly doubt you'll regret it and even the longer songs leave you surprised and disappointed, wishing there was more. Subbed and will be back for more.✌🤘🤘

Tool will take you for a ride my friend... on so many different levels. The band is genius for real. There are many different videos out there that can help explain the meaning behind the lyrics to many of their more popular songs. I recommend you look into those as well and you will see the genius that is Tool for yourself! I really think you’ll appreciate them the more you listen. You should also check out the video for Judith by A Perfect Circle”. It’s one of the songs Maynard wrote for his mother and did with another band he fronted. You’re going to dig it trust me! JETHRO TULL: known for thier aggressive flute in progressive rock. BLUES TRAVELER: known for thier aggressive harmonica play. DAVE MATTHEWS BAND: known for long live performances and adding improvisation to thier sets.
To me this song is about people in general, “why can’t we be sober?” Is like “why can’t we just calm down and not piss and moan about every little thing. “Mother Mary won’t you whisper “ is like “Mother Mary say something to these people”. Then the song goes into 2nd person’s thinking mind. “I’m a worthless liar” meaning they will lie and take from you. Pretty much as the song says “I want what I want”. And part of the song was cut, cause the song goes “Jesus won’t you f*cking whistle”, meaning “Jesus strike them down”. And so on. If you read the lyrics and really think of what it says and means you will see how I was thinking.
Welcome to the Tool Army, get ready, you're in for a wild ride, They'll teach you how to hear their music in PuShit Salival, from there you just let them bring you on their musical masterpiece journey, after 30 years these guys don't have a single bad song.
