Possibly the finest writing of the twentieth century. Beautiful use of the English language, many passages that so lyrical in the images they create that they verge on poetry, and incisive, acute observations of human behavior that are pin-point accurate. Stunning work. Very well read. Good work.

Of the original draught, the publisher complained that FSJ hadn't given a physical description of the main character. Zelda made some sketches of her idea of Gatsby for FSJ to work from.
We can just imagine that these drawings are lying in an attic somewhere and what they'd be worth.

“The Great Gatsby” will forever remain my favorite American novel. I’ve seen every film version, more than once; I’ve read the most scholarly works about it, read every biography on Fitzgerald I could find, and read the novel at least 12 times in my 60+ years.
But hearing you read it aloud brought it to life in a fresh, new way for me. It was like reading it again for the first time.
I knew, however, the true test for me was hearing your interpretation of the last few paragraphs, those poignant, elusive dreams lost to Gatsby.
I wasn’t disappointed. In fact, it left me breathless.
Thank you for your lovely work. Looking forward to listening to more.

Not familiar with many other audiobooks, but i like that when you read dialogue, you still use a very similar voice to your narration one, but only slightly different. It's just enough for my brain to understand that a different character is speaking, but without sounding cartoonish or over the top. Very well done.

@@nolanreads... Another great author to read is Harold Robins.
I met Mr. Robins several times in NY while on a commercial diving job.
He was a writer who wrote as a spectator and person in the frey.
He wanted to dawn the deep diving suit we were wearing and I wouldn't let him as the lead diver we / I could be held liable if he drown.
Neverthel; he persisted for a week or two and hung out on our crew boat a few evenings drinking Rum, Southern Comfort and what ever else was on the boat.
He passed on a few years later I understand but he was quite the character.
Women who asked for autographs and claimed they loved the book. He'd quiz them about the book and really hammer them if they really hadn't. Lol.

I disagree (Nick's character had two women "on the line", the one back home and the golfer), but I think the way that Fitzgerald describes Buchanan starting about 11:20, I think Fitzgerald was a closeted gay or bi. Effeminate swank, riding clothes hiding a powerful and cruel body, straining the top lacing of the glistening boots, a pack of muscle shifting. All that just screams gay to me, but in Fitzgerald's era I don't think people saw that as revealing as it was, certainly Fitzgerald didn't or he'd not have publicly said that.

This is a fantastic recording. there are a few glitched, repeated lines throughout, but I only noticed them because i was so engrossed in your recording. i finally feel like I "GET" this book after hearing you read it. Thanks a million, and best of luck for your future

Holy crap. 25 years of reading this book and it finally hit me.
Selling grain alcohol in a drug store was totally legal in prohibition. It was a loophole.
Meanwhile Tom’s been serving gin and whiskey (probably imported) and beer (definitely imported).
Jay Gatsby was a legitimate businessman.

Thank you so much ❤ I finished The Catcher in the Rye in a day (sped up) and I was so completely charmed by your narration and voice
Gatsby is my absolute favorite (after Jane Eyre shh) and this is going to be such a treat, talk about a good swoon. Can you have a crush on someone over their voice? In your mid 20s? Embarrassing for me, but hopefully it makes your day to know 😂
But in all seriousness, some of the best quality narration I’ve come across. And for free??? Are you mad??? Thank you, and please please think of this as a career if you haven’t already. Absolutely well deserved

It does make my day to know! So glad you’re enjoying these. I started recording around 4 years ago when I was 27, so a very close guess.
Currently I am transitioning to doing full time voiceover work after leaving academia. Having listeners like you who take the time to be so supportive is a huge help. So thank you so so much. I hope you enjoy this one as much as Catcher!
