Greg Wagland is the definitive for audio for Doyle's works just as Jeremy Brett and Edward Hardwicke are Holmes & Watson on screen.

I very much enjoyed Black Peter. It was read splendidly. In fact everything you read is awesome. You seriously are the best I've heard. As much as I like Rathbone and Bruce, i think I prefer hearing the ones you read. They are better than the ones acted out. Every time I listen the stories come alive. Thank you.

I’ve started this story so many times and fallen asleep before the end. Love all of Greg’s readings. I always smile at the idea of Sherlock having all these places across London where he becomes another character. Unfortunately he makes the mistake of telling all the ruffians he lives at 221b Baker Street so they can call round and annoy Dr Watson!

The narrator is one of the best I have ever heard for a series like this. I especially enjoy his remarkable accents. It’s an older style of writing, somewhat difficult to project with such ethereal expression. Very thoughtful and kindly of the publisher to gift this to us.

Am I the only one who was waiting for Holmes to let the two other harpooners out of the other room where he asked them to wait for a little while? They must have been awfully confused about what was going on and why it was taking so long for them to be dismissed. All through the denouement I was imagining them awkwardly standing around, hearing all the commotion and wondering when someone would come and tell them they could leave...

  • @mcgama88

The author himself, should he hear this craft of reading a manuscript as to Sherlock and Watson, might comment...."an effort so placed as to bring alive the texture and time as to capture Baker street and the London which saw the accounts of " a million people bumping and moving with their lives so mixed and traced to uncommon tales of adventure and strife". That is to say, a voice which conveys a sense of place with such remarkable ability as to bring about life leaping from the page, the characters full and bold as the story unfolds. The events as near past meet a modern audience. And I, among that grateful audience, quite thank the reader for such a satisfying revisit to Baker Street and the tale that begins from that residence. M.

Jessica Milestone that's true but the 2 1st century feels so ugly. It is very empty of substance and information overload. It is the most conservative and inane period in history since the middle ages. Mass production and the internet have replaced aesthetics creating the ugliest century yet.

  • @patriciajrs46

Quite the case. I was surprised that Holmes didn't tell Hopkins, at the arrest of Nellinger, that the frail young youth was innocent of murder. It was very interesting how Holmes suspected, and deduced that the tobacco pouch belonged to other than Carey. Quite astute indeed.

Yes, I know very little about rum. I find the 'white spirit' paint stripper type rum (often mixed with cola) has put me off it. What brands do you like?

Sherlock Holmes Stories Magpie Audio I very much like Captain Morgan. I know many people would say that's not real rum because they add subtle spices but I don't care. The normal is good but because I have sweet tooth and I adore taste of vanilla which is why Morgan's Black spiced is my favorite. I have also found liking in Negrita rum. Its dry and mellow. I very much dislike white rum not because of the taste but rather lack of it. I rarely drink but when I do I usually enjoy a pipe of sweet tobacco with it. Not too often of course. Otherwise it would be like having Christmas every week. And what's the fun in that?

Splendid as always, Mr Wagland. What do you think is the reason Holmes was going to Norway (right at the end)?

_"In short, Mr. Holmes, you would go far before you found a more dangerous man than Peter Carey [...]"_
Try a Professor James Moriarty. Or one Jack the Ripper. Or a Mr. Edward Hyde.
Next time you attempt at imitating a big guy like Patrick Cairns, I'd suggest a James Earl Jones impression. ;)

Why are they headed to Norway at the end of the story?

To clear the bankers name if possible? He was the one who fled to Norway with some of the bank securities, when he was never heard from again.
