I never thought I would be able to fix my 11 year old microwave but I got the two buttons online ($52) and borrowed a neighbor's torque screwdriver and with the assistance of a buddy and following your instructions completed the repair in under 15m! Thank you so very much for your video!

Thank you! I was able to resolve this for free in 5 minutes by swapping the power button holder with the identical "foodclass" button holder. Since I never use the foodclass button it doesn't matter that it does not function. All six screws that you need to remove are size T10.

Thought I was going to have to buy a new microwave (C$600 - 1000) when the Start button failed. Then I stumbled on this video and there was hope. Went to a local appliance repair shop, bought a replacement button holder (C$27) and following the instructions in the video had the microwave working again in less than 30 minutes.
It wasn't clear how to remove the button from the holder but since the old holder was broken anyway, I just carefully nibbled away the surrounding plastic with a pair of cutters until the button was free. Then I inserted it into the new holder. There seems to be a preferred orientation (the button is not totally symmetric). Now I have a working microwave again, thank you

Absolutely solved my issue. For anyone wondering, the plastic bits that hold the buttons in place can be pushed through the front of the microwave panel. You just need to finesse them a little bit.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! for putting this video/slide show on RUclips. I ordered the part and an Engineer friend helped me disassemble the side panels (that was NOT easy in my case!), and replaceD the button. Before this I had paid $85 for a MW repair guy to come out and 'take a look' who said the entire Control Panel had to be replaced! ($350 for the part, + $125 for his labor, + taxes. He even called me a week later and I explained what I and my friend were going to do, and he really pushed hard to try and convince me that it was the entire Control panel that needed replacing; I told him I'd give it a try and call him if I needed him). His R&R of the C. Panel would have cost me more than 50% to replace the entire built-in MW. My engineer friend was over one day and said 'everything else seems to be working on the front panel; it looks like it's just your Start button that's broken; let's give it a try'. So I ordered the part and 'we did it'! The part was about $20 (way too much for a tiny fragile piece of plastic IMO) but I'm not complaining, now that my MW is back in use! Your video/slideshow was the ONLY one on RUclips to show how it's done, so again...THANK YOU!!! I think I was the one who broke the button when I pushed fast and hard the day it broke; now I push the button very delicately (which is my advice to everyone with a similar MW).

At our place the only button we ever use is the power button. Want four minutes' cooking? Press the power button eight times. But from now on we'll use the dial. This is what RUclips should be.

Thank you! Worked for me. Some tips:
    - if the wires holding the display on are very short like mine were, there are 2 weak plastic clips holding the lcd display in place. Gently pull them apart and the screen will slide out. This should give you enough slack to flip the panel upside down. It’s fussy getting it back into place but not bad.
    - I struggled for about 20 minutes to get the right side glass panel off. When my kitchen was built 11 years ago a decorative panel was pushed up against the wall that the microwave was attached to, so there wasn’t enough room to free that side glass panel. I got the other side off, disconnected the bracket from the wall, and then pulled the microwave over away from the stick panel. This let me unhook it from the oven and then I just had to force it free from the wall bracket. To re-assemble it, i cut out a section of the glass panel bracket above the clip, so I could get it into place, then I slid it down back into the final position. It wasn’t pretty or fun but it did work.
    - I just swapped my food class and start button brackets, then used electrical tape to tape the food class button into position. So far it works. But I expect it to fail someday.
    Thanks again for the video!

The wiring harness, or whatever it's called, had no slack whatsoever. Frustrated, I yanked hard on it and pulled out another 4 inches. After buttoning everything up I gave it a try. Nope. Wouldn't run. The display lit up though.

Thank you! This solved our problem. The only part that’s not clear in the video is how to take out the plastic button piece. As others have said in the comments it’s a little delicate but you push them from the back side of the panel through the hole and take it out from the front (you can also try to grab onto the rim from the front side and pull it out that way.)

I have the exact same microwave oven. The start button was repaired 3 years ago under warranty. The same button, which is used most frequently, broke again a few days ago and unfortunately this time the warranty had already expired. I decided not to get a new holder for 2 reasons: 1) too expensive ($25+); 2) too flimsy and would break again in 2~
3 years. Here below is the instruction for my repair method using 2 yards of fishing line.
There is a TINY SQUARE hole between the glass panel and the button holder (see frame 1:36 to 1:42). Put a fishing line through that hole. Tie a knot at the end inside the button holder so that the fishing line could be anchored in place. Repeat the same process with another hole on the other side of the holder. Put the micro switch/circuit board in place (the broken hook through the rectangular hole of the circuit board). Tie the 2 fishing lines together so that the switch/circuit board is held tightly in place. Shorten the fishing lines to fit.
    Notes:
The fishing line I used was 12lb/0.015"/0.38mm.
Detaching all 4 switches and the LED display from the panel first could make the job MUCH EASIER.
The holder can be rotated to the best position to work on.
The correct positions of the 2 fishing lines and the unbroken hook should roughly form an equal sided triangle.
The knot inside the holder should be big enough for anchoring the fishing line but not too big to interfere with the button.
18" line should be long enough for easy pulling.
I did the same on the stop button as it was already half broken.

    • @cpsadp99
      @cpsadp99  Год назад

I agree was over price. Mine took around 10 years to brake. If you don't want to buy a new button you can always used the 2in the left and switch for the broken one. I fix mine with baking soda and super glue till the new one arrive and mount it. Glad inspired you to save the money.

Thank you for making this video! I'm waiting for the part to come in to make this repair myself.
While I feel confident making this repair, I cannot get to the outlet my microwave is connected to due to how the previous owners renovated the kitchen. I will have to cut power to the entire kitchen and make this repair during the day. I presume there is no difference as long as there is no power to the microwave, but please let me know if I am mistaken.
However, I am reading online that it is vital to discharge the microwave's capacitor before attempting any repairs to a microwave. I don't see any mention of this in the video or in the comments. In the video I mark step by step the screws you should take a part. Is very simple but you will need to disassemble the front. You won't be able to do it without taking it a part.

At least you bought the house with the microwave on It but I build the kitchen and spent if I remember correctly over $700 for the noisy microwave. I believe the button you mention is the Big one, the one is push in or out to change the settings. Probably can be found but very expensive. Good luck, because the alternative is remove It and place one not integrated in the kitchen way cheaper then the button It self.

If the you want to remove the front with the mirrors left and right after removing the screws you need to move them up to clear the tab then is holding the microwave in place. Is about 1/4 up and the side mirrors should come loose. Don't drop it. If you are talking about the front with the broken button, after you remove the 2 screws in the left and the 2 in the right shown come loose. Remember is like 4 different screws I put a note in witch ones are the correct ones.

In that case after removing the screws in the front and is a photo in the marking the screws slide up the panel. Is a little tab in the panel then grabs the bracket holding the microwave. If you do a print screen and make it bigger you will see how little it is. I wish I can send you photo or mark it for you so is easy to understand.

I know this seems obvious but try the fuse first in the main electrical box and if you don't see any fuses look for a GFCI around the kitchen. Some times they wire the microwave direct from there and the GFCI is the cause of it.

I hate this microwave and it’s matching useless oven! Can’t heat food more than 3 minutes before it’s has to cool down and the ‘in the wall” easy bake oven doesn’t cook a turkey larger than 10lbs. And will shut off and lock on you in the middle of cooking the 10lb turkey. Wish I knew more about this stupid duo prior to the house sale! I’ll be happy once we can trash both of these IKEA pieces!

Our oven hasn’t been that bad - no overheating and have been able to cook turkeys in there up to 21 lbs so far. But yes, self-clean is better labelled “self destruct” - it fried itself our first Christmas Eve with it and it took almost 2 weeks to get someone in to replace the circuit board. What a pathetic design flaw. But besides that, no issues.
