The great composer Mikis Theodorakis had just arrived in New York for
a long on his tour of 15 major cities. While he was in New York he met with
Sidney Lumet who had heard a song of the great composer with the
title entitled "Palioi Dromoi (Old Roads)" and was amazed by his skills; he
absolutely wanted to use his basic melody as the light-motive for his
new movie "SERPICO"
Even though Mikis Theodorakis had was already on a very heavy tight schedule with his tour he accepted to compose a great music for a truly great movie.
The original score was composed by Mikis Theodorakis, nominated for both
the Grammy Award for Best Original Score Written for a Motion Picture
and the BAFTA award for Best Film Music.
Its Greek name is Dromoi Palioi, or "Old Streets".
Sidney Lumet's direction was recognized by both the BAFTAs and the
Directors Guild of America. The film itself was nominated for the Golden
Globe award for Best Motion Picture - Drama.
The film also received Academy Awards nominations for Best Actor in a
Leading Role (Al Pacino) and Best Writing, Screenplay Based on Material
from Another Medium.
The Writers Guild nominated the script for Best Drama Adapted from
Another Medium.
Pacino won his first Golden Globe award for Best Actor in 1974 for his
performance in the film. He also received a BAFTA nomination for Best
Actor.

Legends never die! 1925-eternity
Theodorakis is a gift to the world. May his music and spirit remain eternal.
Τhe truth is that Mikis never compose a song by himself. Behind him was hidden Manos Chatzidakis and George Zambetas. Theodorakis was promoted by Jewish minority in my county. Sad to say that but this is the reality and it will be recorded to the History. !!!!
@@telemark2247 sad to say tha you are the biggest MALAKA in the world...this is what we say in my country for you
@@telemark2247 That is the most convoluted story you could ever come up with.
Theodorakis was born in Chios and grew up in Patras and Pyrgos. He started learning music as a child and gave his first concert at 17. How would he be connected with Zampetas and Chatzidakis in Athens and how would he be fed music written by them and not himself? How would it be possible that a man who graduated from a conservatory have never composed a song?
Chatzidakis and Zampetas were also renowned musicians with their own careers. How would it be possible for them to write for 2 careers and only keeping 1?
Theodorakis was also a vocal anti-Zionist who regularly criticised Israel. Why would he be promoted by any Jewish minority?
A LONELY 😞 WORLD 🌍

Mikis Theodorakis presence will be eternal... He was not only a grand maestro but a human who was always on the front line not only with us greeks but with all people around the world... He was an exceptional personality who will remains among us for ever...

I love your comment its really interesting ,,, he was a big human,,, thanks for his music and actions
Theodorakis reminded the world that Greek culture (art in all its form: theatricality, sculpture, -in his case music and cinematography-, philosophy, architecture, sportsmanship [ie. the Olympics], linguistic impacts and ...🤔... a host of other aspects and disciplines) continues to influence the world now as it did in ancient times! R.I.P., Mikos, 😢and thank you so much 🤗💐
The soundtrack is a true masterpiece. In my opinion blends the Greek tone/rhythm of Theodoraki's music with soul/funk music of the 70s. RIP Mikis Theodorakis!! You were one of kind!!!

divine...again!
Was this song called "Beyond Tomorrow"
Yes, and performed wonderfully by Andy Williams. Made me cry.
💖
makes me sad...
Αθάνατος!!!
It's a beautiful score but at the same time the movie is oddly over scored at times. There are scenes where people are just sitting in restaurants having a conversation and the music is just being blasted so loud. It makes me think the studio thought the movie was too talky and felt underlining scenes with music would make the scenes flow better, that is the only thing I can come up with.
Amo
mousikares!
al Pacino is my favorite actor besides Marlon Brando of all time
