Hi, I really enjoyed finding your channel, as I'm your neighbor. I'm just on the land south of you. I wish you lots of luck and happiness for your projects. let's meet one of these days.
Im glad you stayed on the place you love regardless of not being allowed to build what you wanted.....Go a s plans for you are always best for you. I learned to go with His flow and looking back His way was best even if it didnt feel like it at the time. You are living the true sustainable life at the moment. More than a resort. You have peace and good family. Thats all that counts. You are very lucky
Great to see that you are still upbeat and "glass-half-full" despite the knock-backs you had regarding planning permission etc. I agree with you regarding tools that make your life easier but, for me, the BEST tools you both have are your resilience and your positive outlook. With those tools, you can achieve ANYTHING . . . . :).
Cheers mike. I think thats a great point. We do have ups and downs and have both had a bit of burn out the last 2 years tbh, but we both bring each other around in the end and come back to one of positive vibes. We just want to build something thats good for us, good for the community and can bring a bit more life to this neglected area - that hope gives us faith that eventually sanity will prevail! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment - these also help a lot!
What a journey! Thank you for allowing us (RUclips fans) to watch your struggles and see the triumph. May you be blessed in the Algarve beyond your wildest dreams. Happy 2023. 🎂
So nice to have an update..to know where you are at in this unexpected bend on your road... Live happens, it's better to make comfy and enjoy while you are at it..and we can see you did just that. It shows you are enjoying what live is trowing at you. I hope you'll have good news soon.
Thank you very much for your kind words! Absolutely true, we are trying to make the best out of the situation but are desperately hoping for some good news 🤞🏻🤞🏻☺️

Great to have an update! We've loved following your progress as we're hopefully buying somewhere close by very soon. Looking forward to the next update and good luck with the planners!
So much progress. You're doing great! And it's good to hear you have the borehole connected. I was very surprised when you flashed a quick image of a pool ...??!! I scrolled through the other vids and can't remember anything about a pool, so that would be really interesting to hear about. I'm also very curious that you have decided being off-grid is not for you long term. I'd love to hear more about that in a future episode.
Thanks for your lovely comment Annie! We have a little plunge pool, which we bought last summer. It really helps to cool us down in the summer months ☺️. Good to know that the topic off why we don’t want to live off grid forever is interesting to you, maybe we’ll make a video about this at some point!
Hi Hannah and Jack, I hope you are both doing well. I really hope you are managing to re-re-imagine your life since the disappointment of the approval for your eco-resort. It would be great to have an update - what you've been up to, and how it's going for you. Funnily enough I was just wondering about this last night, and then your two year old video popped up in my YT feed again, and it was like reliving your disappointment to read about the denial of planning permission. I look forward to hearing some positive news, whatever it may be.
I saw a short where you were celebrating approval for your project. Is it really been approved? If so, I am so happy for you guys! Your tenacity and patience paid off!
nice to see you are doing well. And of course I'm glad you're making videos again. I see that you also have a new baby, what is the name of this beautiful dog?
Well done on your tree planting this year! We have also planted trees last winter (also in algarve) and would be interested to know how often you water the trees and how many litres each tree gets (approximately claro!)
Hey Howard, thank you for your comment! We usually water them once a week and they get about 10l. But at the moment it’s very hot, so we water them about 2x per week and also about 10l each time.
Great to see your progress! If you had existing connection in your land to electricity from the grid, would you go for it or you would still prefer to invest in solar?
Thank you! :) Generally we would still prefere to invest in solar as that way you are independent. But of course this is always a budget question and big upfront investment. Also, if you are off-grid, you are very vulnerable if the system breaks or somethign doesn't function properly, so always make sure to have a backup!!
@@Life.Reimagined thank you for replying. My question is because you mentioned that you had to pay extra to get electricity to your house and therefore you invested in upgrading the system. Also because we still didn't decide if we go solar or grid in our property, we have existing electric connection to the grid, so we are still deciding. Being independent is one of our biggest goals...anyway, decisions, decisions 😁 thank you once more 🙂
Hi Hannah and Jack, Its been a while since you have not uploaded. Have you thoughts using your LG V40 again? Maybe try shooting with Motioncam Pro wiht realtime ProRes Cineonlog.
You have made some great additions to the land - it looks great! Did you say at the start that you had to connect to mains electricty anyway to power your borewell pump? If you have mains, are you tempted to install and air conditioner for the summer?
Yes exactly, we had to get connected to mains electricity because the borehole is so deep we couldn't use a solar pump. The connection is on the other end of the property though and to run a cable all the way to the mobile home would be 2000-3000€, so we decided not to do that but rather invest in upgrading our solar system. Not enough to power air condition though unfortunately.
Great update video! I like to keep up with you IG. I think you recently mentioned an apartment on IG… where do we see that? Also, I’m curious about that co-working space. Do you still own that?
Hey Jen, lovely to hear that you are enjoying to follow our journey :). Yes, we are in the process of renovating an apartment in Monchique at the moment but are still at the very beginning of this journey. We are planning to make a youtube video where we will share the full process from start to finish :). And I am hoping to be able to share some more updates on IG soon. We also still have the coworking space yes :)
@@Life.Reimagined When I'm down that way, I'd love to visit the co-working space. Do you have that info anywhere? Excited osee the apartment renovation when it's done!!
I live on grid in Bulgaria but could easily cope off grid at any given time, I think the ideal location is at the foot of a mountain near the end of the grid and superfast internet. The cost vs reward of solar especially over time has never really appealed and mainly because it traps you to the location and partner.Wood and lpg are in my opinion much better options combined with on grid electric
Yes they are really cool! The thing here is that you could only build them "illegal" without a permission as getting a permission for these types of houses is very difficult But they are beautiful!!
Hi guys, I love your information it has been really informative. We are currently looking at a plot in Castro Marim, currently it has no services to it and are trying to create a budget of what it be to get services to it. Do you do consultations to help with type of thing or can you recommend anyone who could help. Thanks Sara
I'm interested in the solar power off-grid system you use, and I have a question. The non-stop rainy weather is common in the winter in Portugal, with thick clouds. Do you have any issues when it is raining for weeks, literally pouring gloomily without any sunny hours? Does the panels produce enough energy? Or the battery system can conserve more? How do you manage?
Hi Nuno, the company is called Bluetti, you can check them out here: bit.ly/3Ic4gr6. Also, if you use the code BLUETTILCR100 you can save 100€ on all orders over 500€! :)
We have had nitrogen fixers and cover crops like beans and lupines on the terraces. Those we have cut down recently for fire protection as per the law here. The sides of the hill are mainly rock rose (which is also all cut down now). We would like some other plants to grow here but it's tricky with the steepness and also to find something that outcompetes rock rose. It is a little hard to see but there are the trees on the hill, which we planted over the winter as well. Hope that answers your question :).
@@Strategos92 no unfortunately algarve is too dry. We have grass at the bottom 6-8 months a year , but like the rest here once we get to may/june the air dries and everything browns, so we chop and drop so it can stop the soil drying out and fertilise the next season :)
I would like to know how came that you and your mother one day decided to go off grid. What are your plans for the future. Are you both single? What do you do for a living, month after month? That'all
Hey Luisa, thank you for your comment. It is a long story and it started with me and my husband Jack (I am not single), my mum moved down and joined us later. You can see the full story if you watch the rest of the videos :)
You said that you had to connect to the grid to run the borehole pump then you went onto upgrade solar system because you didn't want to be on the grid??
Hey Martin. Sorry if it came across as confusing. Basically the land is 1.6ha and the borehole is up the top of the land where the houses were supposed to be built. we are down the bottom. We had to connect to the grid for the borehole. But our cabins etc are all still off grid. When Sonja arrived considered connecting them to the grid up top, but that was going to cost thousands. instead we just upgraded our solar setup and thats been a great choice considering whats going on in the world.
