I'm just in the process of purchasing my piece of land and definitely need to know if I can do a bore hole before I purchase as there's nothing whatsoever around it. this is a great lesson for all of us who want to purchase land in Portugal...i guess the route is to record (voice and written) what is going on with the meetings, asking specific question in writting, and cross all the t's so if in the future there is an issue u will have the powder gun to defend yourself with the legal resources and fight and win.

I bought a plot of land of 4.6 hectares in Spain, 60 sq. m. meters of them are ruins as well, the main ruins are located 3 meters from the border with the neighbor’s site and only now I am beginning to realize that I may not get approval for reconstruction at all :( of course Spain is not Portugal, but the fire safety standards of the European Union are approximately the same everywhere, I think so I gave the architect the task of producing a technical report before submitting it to the municipal authorities.

Hi Hannah and Jack, I hope you are both doing well. I really hope you are managing to re-re-imagine your life since the disappointment of the approval for your eco-resort. It would be great to have an update - what you've been up to, and how it's going for you. Funnily enough I was just wondering about this last night, and then your two year old video popped up in my YT feed again, and it was like reliving your disappointment to read about the denial of planning permission. I look forward to hearing some positive news, whatever it may be.

I can give you the advise no to sue the Camara: the lawyer(s) will charge you, but the Camara will not budge. You are not a voter and you are a systemic enemy even if they look nice. Reorient yourself elsewhere outside of Portugal! Do not get me wrong: I love the Western Algarve, have lived there for years, but my house is for sale now. I also love the people: really some of the most friendly people anywhere! But, you would have much greater chances for success if you were negotiating with the Salazar regime. E.g. I pay since years my communal water bill in VdB. As per a contract with a 3rd party (that has been bankrupt for 10 years, but the employees of the company still get by and are voters!) the path from communal water to my house meter is interrupted by this 3rd party contract. Result is, that VdB bills me (and will stop the water if not paid) for water but does not care if I actually get water - because 3rd party pumps are defective. That was just an example ... the same applies to access roads, which they will not repair referencing to a bankrupt 3rd party. I love the place, but being a realistic person I have moved away: I now live in Cyprus and there is much less red tape, the wheather is warmer & sunnier year-round, the taxes are lower, and the "Camara" is a piece of cake. Leave Portugal! You still can! You don't have an idea what "EU requirements - swimming pools w. rescuer etc." they will face you with in the future. Escape, they are extremely short-sighted and think that foreigners (they also treat their own citizens almost as badly) can surely pay until all their dreamful expectations are met. NEVER PORTUGAL! NEVER!

This is what happens when foreigners come to Portugal with big ideas, as a builder since 1988 l have had many foreigners ask about things that they would know they cannot do in their own country. Within 2 days of buying that 60m2 you could have legally started work to make the place your own little palace, being foreign and hoping that architects and engineers are going to bend over for you and do their best will never happen. Your money matters more to them.
