Hannah, thank you so much again for your reply. I feel a bit more hopeful now after your comment. But will approach with caution. Maybe ask the local Camara and hope it doesn't open a can of worms!! All the best, keep up the good work and enjoy!! Juliet
Thanks Juliet! If I was you, I would not ask for a permission. If it is rustic land, they will not allow it and you will most likely only open a can of worms as you say. If you are okay to take the risk of it not being 100% legal, don't ask. Sometimes it is better to ask for forgiveness than permission ;)
Wow congratulations on completing such a huge project! It looks amazing and it's so lovely your mum could come and be with you. Everything you guys do seems to be executed to perfection, I'm in awe of you haha!
OMG your still in Portugal it’s been such a long time since seeing your channel. The last time I remember you had the cabin and a small solar system and the charge controller or inverter packed up your bore hole was costing more and more.I was thinking you had enough keep up the good work
That was great! Your Mum is lovely. I wish I lived close to my daughter. I watched everything you posted on IG but I missed that you were back on YT. Cheers.
@@Life.Reimagined Ahhh, so that’s why I’ve been missing your daily Bom Dia’s! I thought it was me. I have to tell you, I don’t get on every day but when I do I always appreciated this clips. They made me smile, and chill for a few moments. Strange, but they were meditative and calming. Anyway, looking forward to today’s video. Im out all day but will catch it later! Caio and Obrigada!
Hello Hanna, so good to see you after so long. It is wonderful that you moved on from the "no pemit" episode, and went right into the business in town, to now a yurt for your mom! You have a great work ethic to get things done, despite the obstacles.! I was very surprised to see a video from you today, Great exciting adventure ! hope to see more of your working with mom. Cheers to you and Jack and,Mom ..Kind regards, Annmarie in Oregon,
Fantastic to know that you are well. It's always good to have family around, especially our Mother. It's a pity that you still haven't got the planning permit to build your dreams. The yurt does not need approval from the "câmara municipal", how does that work in your area?
Really great video! Height does really create an illusion of space and airiness. I wasn’t expecting a washing machine & a full size fridge/freezer in a yurt, that too only running on solar! You guys did a great job with the design.
Well done, and great to see you're doing well, despite some setbacks with your original idea. It definitely helps to develop ideas as you go, rather than starting with a fixed plan at the start. If you don't have a fixed plan, you don't need to feel disappointed when things turn out different!
Dear Hannah, Amazing project with the Yurt!! So sorry for the setbacks you have had with building permission. Hope it all resolves soon! My partner and I are moving to Portugal soon to and hoping to buy some land and live in a Yurt. Can you tell me how long we would be able to live in Yurt . also, can we put it on rustic land? would be most grateful for your feedback as have tried google with no results. Wish you all the best with all your projects!! regards, Juliet.
Hey Juliet, thanks for your kind words. So, it is pretty much impossible to put something legal on rustic land. Unless you have a huge plot (then there are some excetptions) you will not be able to get permisson for anything on rustic land. On urban land, that is a little different but even for a yurt, you would need a full building permission as far as we are aware. From what we have encounterd, it might be even more difficult to get a building permission for a yurt than to build a traditional house as anything that the town hall isn't familiar with, is tricky to get through. There is a bit of a grey area, if it is a temporary structure. Something counts as temporary if it is moveable (generally it needs to have wheels) and it can not be connected to any mains (electricity, sewage, water, etc.). If you have such a temporary structure, most councils are okay with you leaving it for one year, technically then you would have to move it to a different part of your property. Now that is the legal situation. In reality, most of the time this is not enforced and unless you have a neighbour who you don't get along and who reports you the city, you will be fine without any permits. But it of course is a risk, which you need to decided if you are willing to take it :).
That's probably the nicest yurt I've ever seen! Congratulations! And good luck for your building permit. I'm starting a similar project here im mallorca and am also waiting for the permit, so I feel with you.
nice to see you back, I do hope you get the go ahead with your building for the land, a suggestion would it not be safer to build railings up to the bedroom and maybe along by the bed so then their would be no fear of falling out of the bed :)
How wonderful it must be to have mum so close. I am sure you must be over the moon. The yurt looks so beautiful. How is it heated and does it have air-conditioning for the summer? 🙏🏡☺️💚🌿🌱
So at the moment it is heated with a propabe BTU heater but we want to get a pellet stove for next year that can automatically feed through the evening. With the height in the yurt, the opening in the roof and the white / reflective coating we are hoping it will stay a bit cooler in the summer. We also placed the doors along the wind route down the valley so that you get a great through breeze.
@@Life.Reimagined thank you for getting back to me, it's been something we have been interested in for some time now. Good to get feedback from someone who is living the experience.
Happy New Year guys . Looks amazing ,job well done . Maybe adding some rails on the mezzanine to be more safe ?! Hope youre business is doing well . Take care
Happy new year Victor and great idea! That was the plan actually....we are just drying out some Eucalyptus libs to use as guard rails between the posts you can see standing in the video.
Well i kinda already said welcome back in our little conversation the last days, but also want to congratulate you all on some damn well done work on this project :-)
I never gave a thought of a yurt, for me was a round tent but seeing yours inside I can say I’m amazed how the space was well used and is well decorated. Congratulations and Happy New Year!!!
Dear Hannah, thank you so much for your very detailed reply! I see a lot of Land for sale adds with comments such as ,"suitable for tent, caravan,Yurt etc" Should I be careful of these? Also, Your lovely Yurt had a kitchen, Bathroom etc so I'm guessing you had to get planning permission, is that right? Thanks again for your input. Kind regards, Juliet
Yes, be careful of these. Realtors tell you all sorts of stuff and half of it is just not true! It may be "suitable" but usually not with a permission. Our yurt also has no permission, so it is always a risk that somene might say something. So far, from our experience, as long as you don't disturb anyone or cause any issues, it is not a problem: But it vey much depends on the area you are in, neighbors etc.
So nice to see this great news from your side. I wish you all the best in your endeavours, hoping that you get the building permit soon. On this end, can you tell me a bit more about the legal requirements, if any, to put a yurt on your piece of land? Since you already have a house there which can be considered as "a building supporting agricultural activity", does a further installation of a living space (be it a yurt, mobile house or a wood house) require any kind of permit in Portugal? From what I read, mobile wood houses for instance are subject to building permit just like any other building (and it seems so regardless of being on or off grid). Can you please enlighten me on how it works for yurts in Portugal on officially classified farm land? Or just point me in the right direction, where I can find info on this. Thanks a lot!
Hi Gigi! You probably already found the answers to your questions but if not, here are some. Each case, each type of land, each location, is different so you need to contact the local Camara Municipal and ask those questions for your specific property. Meanwhile you can check the youtube video from Ecositania titled "Permissions in Portugal vs Cabins, Yurts and Wooden Houses". Hope this is of help.
We got the yurt from Casa dos Sonhos. It's a company here in Portugal which builds them in their solar powered workshop. They deliver and build the yurt for you but you have to build the platform beforehand. And then we built the bathroom inside.
It looks great and inspiring. Why don’t you use a firewood stove for heating the yurt? Also - because the mezzanine is elevated, doesn’t it get hot in summer to sleep there?
Oooh, new video! Happy you are all doing well and so nice to see your mum is joining you to help and to keep company. Can’t wait to see how she develops the landscape. One question: where did she do the permaculture course?
Congrats the yurt looks amazing, very cool and interesting project, if you do not mind me asking what kind of. solar set up you have for both places? Did you do a video about already?

Thank you for sharing - the yurt is beautiful! And definitely could be an option for us if we move to Portugal. Could you add the company’s name and also the size please xox
Aparently not. We talked to the seller of the yurt and they have done these extensively in the Algarve as a portuguese company. With the height in the yurt, the opening in the roof and the white / reflective coating it should stay relatively cool. We also placed the doors along the wind route down the valley so that you get a great through breeze.
