For people who still has the problem even after trying the 3 steps provided, what I did was "Restore settings to their original defaults" via the Settings on Chrome. This did the trick for me. Hope this helps. Chrome > Settings > Reset Settings > Restore settings to their original defaults
Sadly, the 3 steps didn't work for me. This last option was the one that fixed the issue. UPDATE: Seems now the theme is tied up to the use of ADblocker. If you use a youtube adblocker, the theme will turn white.

My issue is I can't get out of device mode on select accounts. Doesn't matter if I select dark more, light mode, or device mode. It's always on device mode. If I select dark mode it just gives me a dark version of device mode.
If you're like me, uninstall youtube adblocker. Had installed on my pc for years but after uninstalling all extensions one at a time found this to be the culprit. Extension in vid has ad blocker built in plus more features......
@@Awesoman66 Guess what… it was ADP RUclips. My stupid self forgot that ADP was separated into two different ad blockers of ADP and ADP RUclips. I originally only turned off ADP. Once I turned off ADP AND ADP RUclips it’s back to normal. Now I have to watch ads or else I am stuck with a white RUclips. Not to get into colors or anything, but white RUclips sucks. It strains my eyes and gives me headaches. Thank God I got dark mode working again. And thank you for your help as well.

Turns out my problem was I already had this extension and it was overriding youtube's settings
I got such an extension too, and it was working just fine until now. There must have been some update recently that reset the theme settings.
Holy smokes, I removed the extension also and fixed my probelm, thanks m8. :D
@@f0xx3r_91 don't have to remove the extension, just turn the dark mode on in the extension (it was like 3 clicks).

Yup turns out I had the same problem.
For me it only worked via de extension Improve RUclips

My problem is the dark theme when I type comment section is black not white, How do I change font color?
I had reinstalled Windows 10 and then Chrome. Chrome reactivated that extension mentioned messing things up like others pointed out.
None of these solutions worked for me. All settings are set to dark mode and youtube is still as white as a blizzard.

@@0GSkywa1ker Tried that, doesn't work. RUclips is a trashcan right now. Incognito tab opens with dark mode though.
