    13:29 good morning from British Columbia. Bloody Brilliant! I've always wondered about the process of dyeing feathers at home. I am now ready to take it on. The hair dryer with the pot and splash guard is a stroke of genius. Instant feather dryer! You have helped advance my tying in so many ways over the last 20 years. I shall once again be happily contributing to your PayPal account. Tight lines Davie, and thanks again.

    Hi Davie , interesting video , I have asked this before , I have 2 pacs of M. P .culdy , 1 light red and the other a pale blue , should I bleach these white before I change their colours and what colour could i achieve if I keep their original colours of red and blue

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  Год назад +1

      Hi Stewart,
      I would dye the blue yellow as this can make a good green/olive though the red I would dye black as I normally dye like this to get a nice black..But if you don't want these colours then as you said you'll have to bleach the feathers then dye them the colour you want..

    Hi Davie! Do you spray the cdc with nix wax after dying to make float better?

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  Год назад +1

      Hi Harry,
      I would have but I have run out, it's a great way of making the CDC feathers ready to go when you tye a fly as it doesn't need any floatant for a while and will last a few fish before you need to do it again..

      Hi Glenn,
      When I bought the kilo of the CDC it cost $60 to send which was a few years ago and since covid everything has went through the roof especially when it comes to postage and materials..I had a look a week or so ago and the company that sold it to me no longer has it advertised..At the time when I was buying bulk materials I was working for a fly tying company in Thailand looking for materials for them which was around 10 years ago..

    Davie that’s very nice! For some reason we can’t buy any good CDC in the states ? I mean it’s bad I just ordered a few packs and they have 20 feathers in each bag and they are junk.
    Any way you can share where you buy yours? Or would you be willing to sell a small lot of each color? The bag you made would last me 10 lifetimes…. Lmk thanks

      I'm in europe though but I've had good experiences with "Swiss CDC" and the Marc Petitjean branded stuff. Swiss CDC has a lot of selection in size and quality etc. Got some from "the fly co" branded large cdc that has been pretty decent. Most sell in 1gram packs though but that's a lot of feathers anyway. I guess you got some like the veniard packs of cdc?

    • @DavieMcPhail

      I bought a kilo of the CDC from a company that sells through Alibaba as I used to work for a fly tying company so I got a few grams for myself..I'll see if I can find the company for you as it's been a few years since I worked for that company but if you want to buy some good CDC then I have attached a link to Premier Angling as they sell some of the best CDC you could buy. premierangling.ie/product/ultra-select-cdc-2-grams-bags/

      Hi Phil,
      I've never had 100% raw spun silk so I'm not sure what I would do with it as like yourself I've used the pearsalls silks for tying with...I would maybe have a go at dyeing and using it as it's a natural fibre so it should work..
