As an American, I'm not surprised that happiness is higher in Finland and Denmark than the US. In Finland and Denmark they don't have to worried about being wiped out financially due to health or education expenses.

That is still not 100% the answer, otherwise it would be happy people in all of europe, because we all have a fair healthcare compared to the US were you just get robbed. The life balance part is the important part. US people are obsessed with everything money related, they dont realise but they badmouth anything that doesnt generate profit. Nothing does something for free, christian selflessness is a joke there only if they get a tax cut. If you life that way all your life and conditioned to seek for more and more every day you will be miserable and never in peace with yourself. You dont need every product on earth, you dont need a bugatti, you dont need a privat jet to escape your sad life to the other side on earth.
Finns, Danes and in general scandinavians have understand that slowing down sometimes, enjoy the moment and life is much more important.
Its no suprise it spreads slowly in other countries, the 4 day work week is often in the news these days and young people demand more time for their life. We have to stop with these unhealthy lifestyle the modern capitalism had made us. We can start and learn to appriciate life like the Finns.

The keyword is, also in my opinion, balance. To find balance in your own life and as a society is the way to achieve the most happiness. It does come with all kinds of challenges of course and not everybody of every country has yet find the answers to solve those challenges. At the moment it seems the countries which chose to shape their society as a more sharing kind of society with a guiding government have a population which feels happier than the population of countries which chose to basically leave it up to the people themselves to acquire happiness with a government that is less involved with their population.
Living in The Netherlands myself I think our society is closer to the Scandinavian way of building a society than the US and lots of other countries. What I do see though it is becoming more difficult to sustain the high level of social welfare when the population on average is getting older; the costs for welfare keep rising while the income from which the government can finance it is decreasing. Unfortunately we can also see that in quite a number of West and Central European countries the support for a system of social welfare is decreasing. That actually does worry me a lot.
My hope is that we as a global society will find that cooperation and sharing the wealth of our planet will not only increase world wide welfare but is also the only way to save the planet from our destructive way of treating her.

I had seen this video before Inna. Being from the Netherlands the differences with the Nordic countries are not that big. For me the feeling of happiness is indeed being "glad" with your life and where it's going. As a stereotype, I'd say the US American way is more going for the highs, and not thinking of the lows that come with that in general. Although the social welfare states are always under pressure, I think these are one of the few things we as humans have to fight for. I feel happier (more content/glad) when I live in an environment where the majority of people have an enjoyable life, than where I have more money than I can spend and everybody around me has to struggle to get by. I always think of the pictures/videos we see more and more of the wealthy Hollywood stars, and the homeless living right around the corner. Happy to have paid higher taxes all my life, and living with a government that over the years has done a decent job.

I`m astonished by how beautiful you are. also Finland you pay less tax, the USA is crafty and they triple and quad tax you in some way. at the end of the day you pay more than 50% in taxes if you add it all up. I pay tax on my home my car my paycheck everything I buy, anything I sell, my paycheck from my job.

Ci sto pensando seriamente!

I like your other channel! First, all of Europe is protected by the American military - which is paid for by the American middle class, not by rich Americans who don't pay taxes, but by average Americans who don't have more than $500 in the bank. If those countries actually had to pay for all the stuff the average American has to pay for through taxes, those countries would not be able to afford any of the social programs they have - that they always point to as one of the reasons they are happy. 60% of the American federal budget goes to our military and intelligence which benefits all of europe. All of these countries are much smaller than the USA. None of these countries actually enjoy the freedoms we have in the USA, including real free speech. The USA has saved europe twice in the last hundred years and the last thing average Americans want to hear is how much better it is to live in europe - average americans pay for that european quality of life. If it wasn't for Americans paying for Ukraine's defense over the last two years Ukraine would already be part of Russia again, the war would have been over in two or three months. If that does not drive the point home I don't know what will. Remember, rich Americans don't pay taxes- that money comes from people barely making it.
