I can see not wanting to wear them with mini skirts but there good for covering your calf so you can still be practical

There's a film I watched that's since made me wonder why they make anything in blue and white stripes. You handled that gracefully. Not everyone would get it.
Whenever I need a modest outfit, I would go to an online muslim store, especially the one that caters more to modern fashion. They have great selection of long skirts, flowy pants, blouses and shirts. And since most Muslim countries are tropical, the fabrics they use are great for summer wear.
I’m a traditional Catholic and I also have a tricky time finding modest clothes that I enjoy. Fortunately for me I’m on the shorter side so knee length dresses are a bit longer on me. I did find a really cute white linen blend dress with black stripes at target, but it was a bit see through so I put a slip underneath and it’s perfect!
@nicolebarber If I had to guess, they probably attend the Traditional Latin mass or an orthodox rite, which are both Catholic masses just different kinds than the Novus Ordo. People who attend these rites tend to hold more "traditional" adherence to church teaching aka a little stricter. This extends to modesty, frequency of "optional" devotions such as the Rosary, liturgy of the hours, stations of the cross, daily mass, etc. As well as just about everything else. It's not necessarily adifferent sect, just a different way of practicing the Faith, typically more devoutly. I tend to go to a Novus Ordo, although I prefer TLM, and I hold pretty traditional views and habits as opposed to my Catholic peers for context. Hope this helps!

I wish they’d stop putting those slits in every single dress!! I’ve bought a couple from target and didn’t realize they had it until I put it on at home, now I wear them to lounge around the house instead.
I think the slits are usually for mobility, as it tends to be lower quality fabric, that may be tight or tear with top much movement. But there's some amazing tutorials out there on how to cover them, either by just sewing them up or adding fabric into them to make it pretty

I usually sew in a cloth panel or lacy frills into the slits. Adds a pretty touch of color and prevents the constraint of movement from sewing the slit shut.

Legit question from one who does not know: Could you just wear thick tights or leggings underneath the clothing with slits? I don’t purposefully dress modestly, but I layer much of my clothing like this to cover my skin when it is colder.
It depends on community standards. It also depends on the slit location and length. There is a concept in Jewish law that the slits *regardless* draw attention, which is immodest, even if you’re wearing tights underneath. I’m in a more mixed/open community, so sometimes I might wear tights underneath, but only if it’s a side slit that I already partially closed. Slit above the knee is a big no no

you can sew in a panel on the slit up the side :D it allows for more movement, and you can also add it in a pretty accent colour or pattern if you'd like :)

There’s always ways to modify your clothing for modesty. If you don’t sew, you can find a tailor that can sew fabric into the side slits of skirts & dresses, add length to skirts, etc.
I tend to shop in charity and second hand shops, because of personal preferences, and can find some pretty good modest clothes there. I don’t tend to be very modest in my tops - I often show my arms/shoulders and occasionally some cleavage, but I absolutely need good modest skirts for my preferences. I’m really lucky I live somewhere with great second hand shops, because I can find a lot of great modest vintage finds. (I dress modestly not for religious purposes, but just personal preference, so specific rules and standards aren’t really an issue)

Back when I was a member of a fundamentalist baptist church, I would get so, so mad while trying to shop for modest clothing bc nothing was really modest. Always low cut, slits up the sides, or spaghetti straps. The only stores selling specifically modest clothing charged an arm and a leg and even the clearance price tags were well above what I would normally pay for a single piece. I made a few cheap summer skirts and bulky sweaters work for me until I left the church for another baptist church, not fundamentalist. I still dress modestly but not fundamentalist-modest.
i recommend muslim stores online! they’re catering to modest clothing as well. also those slits are necessary so you can move freely. i recommend buying short dresses as long tops and pairing them with thighs/pants. if you see a cute shirt but sleeves/cut is short, pair it with longer/sleeved shirt underneath and if you wanna wear it on summer get a sleeved shirt and cut the body part, just leave the sleeves so you can still buy the short sleeve shirts. i don’t dress modest but i have friends who dress modest and i learned all of these from them. 😂
I bought the white dress about a week ago and i really love it so far! I don’t try to hide my knees but im on the shorter side and my knees stay hidden unless im sitting and the dress moves.

It actually helps keep the sun directly off your skin and most of the time they are airy enough to let breeze in. natural fibers are the key, it wont work at all with synthetic materials.

Former apostolic southern Baptist here who still dresses modestly. Slits are easily collected with a needle and thread!

It actually helps keep the sun directly off your skin and most of the time they are airy enough to let breeze in. natural fibers are the key, it wont work at all with synthetic materials.

You can add decorative safety pins for the slits. But it’s for movement.

Let's be real, short girl to short girl. Those slits will not be problematic, they will be mid-shin length. The mid thigh split is too short, but it's an easy fix by the person who is shortening the dress.😅
I'm LDS and we have modesty rules too. Anything with slits I sew them closed or wear a longer skirt with it. That way coverage but can still move.
