These 50s basses came with flat wounds on then I don't even think round wound strings where available I got mine in1999 it was the sting signature bass made in Japan witch I always believed blew everyone else out of the water it's not just that the japanese have and excellent eye for detail and there electronics are the best in the world but I was told that the japanese where given the best woods because of there quality they hold or exceed there value and when I bought mine it was on sale for the amazing price of 400 dollars and out of all the basses I have had over the past 40 years it's definitely my favorite it plays like a dream sounds incredible even before I added a three quarter pound p/u witch basically killed the human that single coils are known for I've played it all these years and just recently changed to flat wounds the two piece bridge is a bit difficult to adjust the international once done its fine and the flats have made it even better I wish I did it years ago because the round wounds really can leave there mark on the frets
actually flats started their life in 1954. the first Pbasses has rounds, with a nickel (usually pure nickel or monel, because that’s what was available in that era for electric guitars), that Fender took from a piano strings producer. in 1954 Fender and Labella went out with flats.
Beautiful bass and sounds great. Love it. Early 50s P's are my all-time favorite looking basses as well. Guess I know where my next paychecks will be going...
We still have one of each color in-stock! Shoot me an email anthony@empiremusic.com and we can maybe work on the $$ for you (wink wink). Thanks for watching - Anthony
I'll be holding out for a '70's telebass style with the single humbucker on the neck, love the tone those things put out. I can get close enough to this tone with Labella flats and a .1uF capacitor in my Mexican P-bass with stock pups.
The un-slotted fiber saddles certainly are different, but keep the vintage-vibe strong w/ these. Didn't;t notice it at all while playing. Thanks for watching - Anthony
Totally is... I had just done a video on a 63 Custom Shop. Got crossed up. Sorry for any confusion. The good news is I may have said it TWICE!!! LOL - Anthony
This is Great Sounding Bass; I am not a P with Flats Guy [own Ultra Precision] but wouldn't change anything with that Bass; I know you sell both but the Squire Version you also demoed was awful in comparison
The 54 P is the true P sound! But don't buy an American. The quality like all American products is bad. Buy the Japanese one. Way cheaper and way better quality!
I am so happy Fender decided to do an early 50's style bass in their production run.
These are great reviews that really let you hear the bass without tons of slap or talking - just enough on all fronts! Keep it up!
Thanks Mark... I probably still talk too much, but slap is off-limits on these basses! Thanks for watching - Anthony
I own the 1960 Vintage 2 version. I am so impressed by the look and tone I might add on this 54.
Love Fender’s decision to have these basses come stock with flats. Sounds so damn good. Wish I could afford one of these.
The Empire 58's are coming in around 8.75lb - 9lb's

No lefties?
I agree 100% with flatwounds on that bass. Thanks Anthony
Absolutely! Thanks as always - Anthony
Got mine 2 weeks ago and not disappointed at all...
What a sweet instrument. The flats are perfect on it
I agree!!! Perfect strings for these basses. Thanks for watching - Anthony

I always loved these single coils. For lovers of old R&B or reggae.
Got mine on order. We have to wait till February '23 here in Australia.
These really are lovely
I'm a "Round wound" guy, but I think it's cool that this one comes stock with flats.
I really like both for different situations. Flats seem to work well w/ this model! Rounds would be cool too though! Thanks for watching - Anthony
again a great review. the bass sounds very nice and you present it accordingly. thank you!

As usual, absolutely brilliant review. I've purchased a number of basses based on your recommendations, never been disappointed. Thanks man!
These fender flats sound nice. Crisp but not overly harsh.
They're good!! Thanks for watching - Anthony
Was totally waiting to hear baseball bat neck. Pleasantly surprised it’s not. I’ve not bought two FCS basses because the neck was too big.
Not at all! Was surprised at the comfort on this bass! Thanks for watching - Anthony
What a fantastic video I enjoy the fender custom shop bass videos
Damn that sounds good! Awesome playing Anthony
Thanks Ty! Appreciate you watching - Anthony
Well, that is glorious. Absolutely love it. I'd rather it came with the covers, though. I might convince myself I need one. 🤔
The covers are included in the case
@@DjiDo Fantastic! You're going to push me over the edge - my bank won't be happy, but I will. Cheers. 👍
You are welcome 😂👍🏻
Confirmed... cover are in the case! Thanks - Anthony

With that bridge just two saddles, how do you intonate when setting up your bass?
I'm Drooling.....
🤪💕💕💕💕😃♥️♥️♥️
I was too!! Thanks - Anthony
Want. This. Bass. And I don't even play bass.
Excellent reviews Anthony 🎵🎶🎸
Oh no now I need it :(
La belle
Sounds great 👌
Sounds great Anthony.
What's it sound like with a pick ?
Probably great! (If someone else was playing it.. lol). My pick game had regressed considerably! Thanks for watching - Anthony
The gap between 2nd & 3rd string is kinda trippy
The un-slotted fiber saddles certainly are different, but keep the vintage-vibe strong w/ these. Didn't;t notice it at all while playing. Thanks for watching - Anthony
Can't unsee it now
is there a problem with the intonation on this bass?
asking because the 2 saddle bridge...
I don't have a problem with this on my '72 Tele - sometimes some minor compromise is needed, but nothing that affects things too much.
any idea how much it weighs ?
tank you
Sorry, this video was done a while back, so I don't recall. They always seem to hover around the 9lb mark though. Thanks for watching - Anthony
I think it's a 1960 Precision Bass, not a '63.
Totally is... I had just done a video on a 63 Custom Shop. Got crossed up. Sorry for any confusion. The good news is I may have said it TWICE!!! LOL - Anthony
I hope they do a Vintera version of this.

PLEK much?
The 54 P is the true P sound!
But don't buy an American.
The quality like all American products is bad.
Buy the Japanese one.
