Thank Heaven for a true review where the notes are played like most of us play rather than a festival of Spanish guitar-style noodling above the 7th fret forever like so many lesser reviews on other channels.
I love the way you go really deep with the specs and the dynamic you apply when you explain detailed the sounds you can pull out of it even with one pick up
12:44 I had the exact same reaction as Anthony when those first two overdriven notes thundered out of my speakers! For some reason when you dug in a bit I thought it sounded a bit like a Musicman Stingray!
Mine arrived today. FAT sounding even with the rounds. Nice chunky neck. Excellent fit and finish. I HATE string thru body but an American Standard 3 screw bridge should be a drop in replacement. Add TI flats and it will be a keeper.
Thank U Anthony! My first Fender bass was a blonde 1972 Fender Telecaster Bass. Like everyone else, I wish I still had her. Great presentation on how to bring out the most of this often overlooked and underrated instrument.
Awesome looking bass. I’ve a Fender P and a 90s Washburn Mercury which has a superb neck and fingerboard. I love the Fender basses. This new V2 is a stunner.
One way to tame the over-compression that occurs when digging in with that pickup is to modify the humbucker to be wired in parallel instead of series. Brings out a LOT more brightness, even in that neck position.
I thought of splitting mine for series/parallel/single coil but when I removed the pickguard I saw that the pickup is only 2 wire. As a bonus though, mine has CTS pots as standard which isn't mentioned in the Fender specs.
@@stephenfoley1261 it terminates to two conductor, yes. It requires some careful deconstruction of the pickup to get to the wires inside of the pickup. 10/10 don’t recommend doing it yourself unless you’re familiar with pickup construction.
I had an original Fender Telecaster II bass from the mid 1970s--looked just like this one except in a different color. Bought it used in New Mexico for $450. It was crazy heavy and I used it for awhile while playing club circuits in the western US (mid 1980s). Should have kept it. But hey, now there is this bass for me to spend some more money on! Love the surf green.
I’ve had this thing for a few months now, and man, it kills!! I’ve got TI Jazz flats on it, had it Plek’d, and now it’s my number 1. 🤷🏻♂️ If you’re concern with the low-mid mud, throw that tone all the way open, and maybe tweak an EQ knob. Simple. Elegant, and perfect for me. Worth every penny, and then some.
My Telecaster bass sounds amazing with the mud bucker and the low and high mids pushed up and played with a pick. The sound is so full and even but still cuts through the mix of two really loud guitars.
Stoked on this! I’d love to get one and add an early 50’s style single coil P pickup in the center position with a vol/vol/tone knob setup and some fat flats (ok sorry about that geekery 🤣)
It is great that the 70s telecaster bass reappears. I have a 1968 tele bass and a 1973 tele bass. So handsome and simple. If this pickup is the four-wire model as in the pawnshop basses, you can wire it in series or parallel. I have mine in parallel, and it now has a good amount of mids and a bit of top end.
If you have a 4 wire humbucker you can use a DPDT (Double Pole Double Throw) (On/On/On) switch and wire it as Series/Parallel/Single Coil. I did that with a Squier Vintage Modified Tele bass and it worked a treat.
The Telecaster is always a fascinating bass but to buy only if you really need THAT sound, (similar to the Gibson EB-0) otherwise you will get very little out of it; much better a much more rational and incisive P-51/54.
Almost the opposite of the purpose of this bass; seeing this kind of pickup so close to the neck... but I think this will sound interesting with a pick and rounds on full tone, and then compensate at the amp by turning down the bass and upping the lower mids. I am pretty sure it will not muddy anymore but very articulate. It will not be a P-bass sound but more towards a Gibson G3, very unique sounding pickup. I think the D and G string will have a massive amount of lower mid so the bass is allowed to be played very close to the headstock and still have the thick tone.
It is for Fender with the humbucker version (since the original back in the 1970s), but Squier had one a few years back. I think it was called the vintage modified precision TB bass.

Sounds gorgeous
Seth Lover who designed the Gibson humbuckers, was poached by Fender to design these pickups in the 70s.

this thing with a choice set of flats would be insane
Yes thank you I was most curious about this bass from the new series.

I’ve been curious about this one ever since it released. The tone rundown is exactly what I wanted to see in a demo of this bass. Thank you!

Thanks for this beautiful review.
Now I know wich one will be my next Bass Guitar.
Many thanks to Anthony, i always love his reviews!!!
Thanks!! Great basses. Always here to help or get one for you 412-343-5299. Thanks for watching - Anthony
This is a "steamroller bass": built for power, not speed.
You can hear it clip the puny mic/pre trying to capture the lightning
I dunno man
Meat Puppets used one like this and they shred

Super rad basses... not the most versatile out there, but they SIT PERFECT in loud mix! Thanks for watching - Anthony

I would have to put a back pickup on it to stay out of the mud. I love the look and vibe of Tele style basses tho.
Excellent review!! Love it!!
Thanks for Sharing Anthony a excellent demonstration 🎶🎵🎸
5 seconds in and I said holy $hit out loud to myself. That sounds too good.
this is what im looking for!
Great review, thank you!
I have the Squier Vintage Modified Telebass. Same vibe: a war tank!!
Mine just arrived VIA UPS.Cant wait to plug it in!It was still over $1100.00.It’s Not A Cheap POS.
I like everything about this bass except the two-saddle bridge, which while period correct is not a good design.
Easy swap
I threw on a p bass bridge for that reason. Plays perfect!
Any intonation issues with the 2 point bridge????
Ninguno se nota muy poco
@@MayconZabala-ci9zkše dobro, da se razumemo.
Original 70s Telebasses were actualy poly-finished from the start, not nitro.
Apologies... to be honest, I didn't know a a lot about them before this. I appreciate the info. Thanks for watching - Anthony

One dimensional for sure.... but a pretty cool one if you ask me! Thanks for watching - Anthony

Man, Vintera II 70s Tele just sound great under Anthony hand !!!
What is that black horizontal pc. close to the G string?
Does anyone knows the exact distance between the pickup and the beginning of the neck?
Does anyone know if this is the first time they've issued the telecaster bass?

I have an original 72 telecaster bass in mint condition. I wonder if these new issues will bring some interest back into the originals.
What’s the song you’re playing in the intro?
I thought you were going to breakout gratitude by the beastie boys when you kicked on the drive! And then you did 😊 RIP MCA ☯️
RIP MCA!!! Massive influence on me! Thanks for watching - Anthony
Probably needs a set of flats
70s Telecaster basses were poly finish, not sure why you're talking about laquer finish in relation to these basses.
i think he means this for those who would like to their bass to look "road worn" after years of use
Mine is Nitro-cellulose. They may have switched to poly later in the 70s.
Alguém precisa dizer pra esse rapaz que ele não é tão bonito qto acha que é
pickup needs to be lowered a skooch.
When I was young in the late 70's you couldn't give these basses away at Walmart. Now they're cool? I don't think so.
19min video and you didn’t touch the tone knob once.
It’s a reissue of the 70s Telecaster Bass, duh.
Yeah,that was getting redundant.
I'm a Jazz Bass lover, but this bass is SEX!!! 😁😍😍😍😍
It's still just a bass... unfortunately. lol! Thanks for watching - Anthony
Really really tired of that riff.
