I rarely leave comments, but this is hands down one of the best (if not the best) intro to orchids I have seen. Learned everything the hard way when there was not much information available and can confirm each and every care tip given here.
Did he say the number 1 killer of indoor plants is “kindness and too much water”? 😂 I’ve rewatched that a few times and can’t help but think that’s what he’s saying. He wouldn’t be wrong at all haha
Apart from comparing them to wine, I'd also say that the level of maintenance required makes them more cost-effective and more rewarding than maintaining a husband 👍
I have inherited 3 of my mums orchids and I’m feeling the pressure of keeping them alive and this has really helped. Her flowers are dropping off but I think I’ve been overwatering, under feeding and wrong area of the house. Thanks for this intro guide to orchids ❤
OMG! If I INHERITED an orchid, I would probably pay somebody to keep it alive for me. I am here because I am DETERMINED to keep my orchids alive. It isn’t going so well. 😰 Best of luck to you and the little ones. Pray for me. 🤦🏾♀️
I’m so happy i looked into really understanding why my orchids weren’t thriving anytime i would buy a plant. I def had a over fertilised/watered orchid so i cut her down, leaves are clean. Moved into my brightest room in indirect light for day then near my humidifier for the night with me in ac as it’s been super hot lately. Fingers crossed :)
What a contrast, tropical orchids by the window, the background is wintery with snow on the ground, two climates separated by a glass window. A real artist can’t fix everything but they sure can try.
Love this video. Very helpful. The last part was great, I was feeling guilty about buying another orchid yesterday but I don’t drink so that’s great to Make me feel better 😊
What a perfect video! No needless information, simple straightforward answers to the questions and it left me feeling hopeful that I can do this instead of overwhelming me with instructions and tips. Thank you!😊
Very helpful Thank you!!!!! ❤ On the orchids I got from my mother’s funeral……both tags on the pots indicated to use ice cubes…...? Why would they do that?
It may sound crazy but here it is. I’m a beginner orchid enthusiast. I’ve always loved them. Wasn’t sure how to grow them. Glad I found your video. The orchid I have it present and I know it’s gonna sound crazy was extremely “silent.” it bugged me so I got down and investigated and found out she has outgrown her pot. So I put her in an orchid pot and believe it or not she is not as quiet. I’m glad I found you with your flower knowledge.
New subscriber here! 🙌🏼 I have had the best luck with my orchids having them on a windowsill. Luck for me means that it’s re-bloomed and grown for at least several years. I’m petrified to replant! I hate to rock the boat but my 2 orchids that I’ve been most successful with are in the same pot like they came from a dumpster where my daughter works. They were obviously grown in separate pots and merely pulled from their grow pots and stuck in a decorative ceramic pot with a little decorative moss around their tops to make it look good. (The said store keeps orchids while they are blooming and once that initial bloom is over they throw them away which I think is criminal). (They discourage employees from taking them out of the dumpster so they don’t even give them to their employees.) They could at least give them away. 😤
Hi, I have been trying to bring an orchid back. That was given to me. Add to it now. Has 2 new little leave? SI have it in water? I don't know what to do with it now. But there is still like the route part is twin. Looks dead But Not. B. I do not know what to do with that. I've gotten it living so far. What would you advise me to do? Thank you very much. I want you on t. V. When you were with Maryland Dennis dennis, yes.😂😊
I recently bought a phal at a big box store. I haven't repotted her yet, but want to, as it is in straight sphagnum moss. The roots look pretty good, and she is in bloom right now. My question is should I wait until the blooms are gone, or would it be OK to get her into some decent orchid medium and pot right away? (We also have a humidifier set at 45%.)
Someone gifted me a beautiful Phalaenopsis orchid that the retailer must have somehow died the blooms a bright turquoise blue/purple. Will it ever bloom its natural colors again? Is there anything I can do to help make it healthy again?
What can I do with my vanilla orchid plant that is getting yellow and has yellow leaves brown spots how to get it back her green leaves and green apparence ? Please advise me Thank you
Thank you for this helpful guidance - I got orchid bouquet as xmas present, and within 3 weeks all the flowers have shed. I am afraid the whole plant will die.
When I brought each of my two new orchids home from the grocery store, they lost their flowers within weeks. I think it is because of them changing their environment. They will bloom again if you water them sparingly. I water on the same day every week 1/4 cup of water each. I am about to repot them and I expect they'll go into shock for a bit and then burst with new flowers as they are ready. (They've never been repotted). The first orchid bloomed prolifically (on it's second go round) from August through February.
So would you water 1-2 times a week AND mist occasionally? Also I followed all the direction and got them reportted, what do I do with the buds that aren’t going to bloom? Trim? Leave?
This video was very helpful! Thank you so much for all of the tips. I have some questions though. If the roots are showing signs of being overwatered or too little water, should I trim them? Or should I just continue to water the plant accordingly. Also, what if one leaf is sticking upwards but the rest are drooping? Is that a sign of something?
Thank you for such an informative video. I've always struggled with Orchids. I'm hoping with this new one I have bought for my wife, I will be able to maintain for many more flowers
I recently added an Orchid to my indoor plant collection. Three weeks and in my bathroom it's still alive 😅. I just added water today 🤞. I could never keep an Orchid alive for more than a month 😅. I've done my research so hopefully she lives long. They are beautiful plant's.
Every so often, my MIL gives me an orchid plant. I usually end up killing them as I don't know how to care for them. Your video taught me so much about caring for them. Perhaps the latest one I received on Mother's Day will survive thanks to your tips. I even ordered that fertilizer you suggested.
Hmm… I’ve always been afraid of getting an orchid but I recently was gifted one for Mother’s Day. I thought I killed it when I saw all the flowers falling off and felt so guilty but now, after seeing this video, I will inspect it, prune it and move it to a better spot. Not sure if I should repot it though. Thank you so very much for sharing this video!
Thankyou but some say water alittle from top, others same never from top. Only submerge in water for awhile 15 mins then drain completely before placing into vase.???
I have 150 different species (or there about) and Phaleanopsis is the species I can't grow, some people have rooms full but for some reason they just don't want to grow for me 😁
I've seen ppl put it vase with just water...no bark. Instructions was to take all the bark soil out, cut off dead roots, cut off spent stems and change water once a week. Is this ok to do?
You are the first person who helped me in what to do with spikes that have no bud. Now I will cut the spike where u showed on ur video. Thank u so much since I just started to buy some plants. I have become addicted to orchids.😂😂😂
I had an orchid for 23 years didn't know you were supposed to cut the stem after blooming ,but It never failed to bloom bummer it died I think I watered it to much in the last month I had it .???😢 thanks for sharing love orchids got me two new ones
And amazing video! I love plants and gardening but it’s always really been perennial or annual for longevity 😂 now I’m trying to grow them and build an oasis 😂
I rarely leave comments, but this is hands down one of the best (if not the best) intro to orchids I have seen. Learned everything the hard way when there was not much information available and can confirm each and every care tip given here.
Love the handle
Please advise me where to get orchid pots to replace my pant
Did he say the number 1 killer of indoor plants is “kindness and too much water”? 😂 I’ve rewatched that a few times and can’t help but think that’s what he’s saying. He wouldn’t be wrong at all haha
I rewinded that too. 😂
You must be new to houseplants. 😊
I’d say yes! I have about 30 plants In my house and I forget about them all the time and water once every week and a half and they are thriving!
Kindness as in attention?
@@karelrodgers9108 yes!
Apart from comparing them to wine, I'd also say that the level of maintenance required makes them more cost-effective and more rewarding than maintaining a husband 👍
Or wife for that matter
I have inherited 3 of my mums orchids and I’m feeling the pressure of keeping them alive and this has really helped. Her flowers are dropping off but I think I’ve been overwatering, under feeding and wrong area of the house. Thanks for this intro guide to orchids ❤

Thanks for the information about Orchid. im just a beginner and need all the help i can get.
Fingers crossed :)
how are your orchids now? 😊
I’d much rather have the orchid than a bottle of wine! Thanks so much for the great information!
yeah nice, i was giving my plants to much water... thanks :)
Thank you sir
Great ending advice. No wine - just buy orchids !🌱
Do you water at the time of feeding?
What a contrast, tropical orchids by the window, the background is wintery with snow on the ground, two climates separated by a glass window. A real artist can’t fix everything but they sure can try.
Love this video. Very helpful. The last part was great, I was feeling guilty about buying another orchid yesterday but I don’t drink so that’s great to
Make me feel better 😊
Also be careful, plastic containers r poisonous to some tropical plants, I recommend ceramic pottery for most if not all tropical plants.
Nie ma polskich napisów a ruskie bokiem wyłażą światu 😅
What a perfect video! No needless information, simple straightforward answers to the questions and it left me feeling hopeful that I can do this instead of overwhelming me with instructions and tips. Thank you!😊
Thank you for an easy and accessible tips of how to take care of orchids!
Very helpful Thank you!!!!! ❤
On the orchids I got from my mother’s funeral……both tags on the pots indicated to use ice cubes…...? Why would they do that?
Love your video! Fast moving and not boring. I will stay tuned for subsequent info on orchids as I need lots of help.
Very helpful video. Thank you so so much! Subscribed! 👏👏
Love the final punch line. ❤
Ty and love the Lil puns and jokes 😂. Made the video enjoyable and not like I was watching a documentary

Super helpful!! Covered every aspect a novice needs to get started. Will revisit this guy again for sure. Thank you!!!
I've been so frustrated that my orchid wouldn't rebloom and it turns out I've been taking care of it too well! That's a first for my plants, lol.
Someone gifted me a beautiful Phalaenopsis orchid that the retailer must have somehow died the blooms a bright turquoise blue/purple. Will it ever bloom its natural colors again? Is there anything I can do to help make it healthy again?
Best video on orchids. I'm completely frustrated at how hard it is to get them to re-flower, I think this pointed me in the right direction
they take 5-6 months to reflower, patience!
Hi , thanks for the all information.
What should I do with those yellow leaves. Should I cut them off?
Simple but covering all key points for caring phalaenopsis orchids. Great video.
What can I do with my vanilla orchid plant that is getting yellow and has yellow leaves brown spots how to get it back her green leaves and green apparence ? Please advise me Thank you
Thanks Frank I learned a lot about orchids , you should be a hand model
Clear information no padding, useful! How ever the bottle of wine, um your drinking the wrong wine😅
One of my orchids has developed many aerials and is not blooming. I believe it needs to be repotted. What should I do with all the aerials?
What about getting water in the center of the leaves. I have heard this will kill the plant. Is this correct?😊
my leaves are all that are left and the sticks are brown and i have feed and watered and cut the steam down i don't know what else to do
DOES MY NEW GIFTED ORCHID HAVE TO BE IN A TRANSPARENT CONTAINER?
Funny because I bought my lovely girlfriend and Orchid and some wine for her birthday and that's why I'm here😂😂

I have an orchid that was my moms I'm trying to keep it alive
My orchid grew leaves on the stem instead of flowers. What do I do now?
080 McLaughlin Haven
My Orchid lost all its buds...its just leaves and a stick. The leaves are green and healthy though. Hopefully it will bounce back.
Loved this video and the wine vs orchid comparison😊
Is the wine statement based on your experience? Hhaha
For me is first all about fragrance, second the distinct look but not dramatic
Good video thank you
Cost same as a bottle of wine? I don't think so. I've never seen a live orchid plant that costs $2.98. Otherwise it was a great video.
I think he means that every time you get a bottle of wine it will slowly cost more than a orchid
I don't think he meant the kind of wine in a box 🤣
So would you water 1-2 times a week AND mist occasionally? Also I followed all the direction and got them reportted, what do I do with the buds that aren’t going to bloom? Trim? Leave?
Great info, really helpful. I am new to orchids. Just wanted to say that wine and orchids are wonderful together! Especially as a presant.
I agree, plenty gorgeous.
This video was very helpful! Thank you so much for all of the tips. I have some questions though. If the roots are showing signs of being overwatered or too little water, should I trim them? Thank you for such an informative video.
I've always struggled with Orchids.
I'm hoping with this new one I have bought for my wife, I will be able to maintain for many more flowers
Don’t use softened water that has salt.
I recently added an Orchid to my indoor plant collection. Three weeks and in my bathroom it's still alive 😅. I just added water today 🤞. I could never keep an Orchid alive for more than a month 😅. I've done my research so hopefully she lives long. They are beautiful plant's.
Love this video! Really helped! I just rescued orchids! ❤

Is the dunking method where the orkid gets dunked in water and letting it soak the water for 15 minutes also okay as in watering?
That's what I do
Thankyou but some say water alittle from top, others same never from top. Only submerge in water for awhile 15 mins then drain completely before placing into vase.???
Thanks for the great video
Davis Harbors
Interesting article, however , there are very few, on growing and caring orchids outside in the tropical ,or subtropical.
Lost about half the audience when you mentioned they are better than wine 😂😂😂
They are!
Nah. I love orchids, not so much on the wine. 😊
I’ll take the orchids over ANY wine
I have 150 different species (or there about) and Phaleanopsis is the species I can't grow, some people have rooms full but for some reason they just don't want to grow for me 😁
