I think an unfortunate result of everyone packing heat for Fable of the Mirror breaker is everyone has some kind of enchantment removal if not main deck, ready for the sideboard
it's a mix of fable and wedding announcement as targets combined with the fact that there's just really good removal that has the ability to snipe enchantments. Unleash the Inferno, Void Rend, and Rite of Oblivion are all perfectly fine removal spells to maindeck. On top of that you have Destroy Evil and Tear Asunder which are average removal spells that are playable with the high number of enchantments to hit.
So here is another take on Riveteers for you. Mill your graveyard of creatures, and use the wonderful 7drop that reduces its mana value to the number of creatures in the graveyard, you can potentially get a 6 drop on turn 4 with this.
I really love when you combine more than one against the odds card. I've never seen Vivien on the Hunt played but you definitely found the right deck for it.
i'd love to see Vivien in another shell without Ascendancy, the planeswalker bizarrely stuck on the battlefield better than the enchantment which is strange.
Riveteer's Ascendancy has been a pet card of mine for a while. I was forcing it in a 5C Vampires Pyre of Heroes (Vampyre) deck last standard, and couldn't ever bring myself not to at least keep it as a 1-of, but it's just so slow.
Can't tell you how many times I've played against a board wipe when my opponent is playing an aggro deck. I'm just as flabbergasted each time it happens as I was the first time I saw it.
for the last time Seth, the color pie allows black to remove enchantments, typically in a non-targeting manner. The pie changes, ergo why black doesn't have rituals anymore.
I have an Explorer deck built around these two cards. It's kind of inherently inconsistent because it needs to play both Vivien and a curve for her, but I found using Goldhound and Riveteers Requisitioner to ramp and cutting down the 5-7 slots helped. Dreadfeast Demon is my 7-drop of choice, but it's maybe surplus to requirements; the game usually ends when Junji gets sacced to Elspeth.
Honestly if you feel like a card like Fable would massively improve the deck I say go for it. I can't remember the last time I played Standard and didn't have it in my deck tbh.
... fable checks way too often ... for a lot of game plans - besides being a two-for-one and offering card selection. It synergises with treasure, draw, discard (in order to fill the graveyard), copy and sacrifice.
Our curve here is filled with tier 2 cards to support the curve for Vivian and ascendency. It feels a little like "bad jund." It's kind of sad that the deck gets better if you add in a bunch of staples like mirror breaker and graveyard trespasser. That being said, Vivian looked pretty good, and I think that Jewel thief did work. I wonder if there is a Goyf deck in here somewhere with Viv and the Urborg Lurgoyf. Both of them reward a high number of creatures in your deck.
Match 2 Game 2 you absolutely should have attacked the second time with the titan, and you should also have played astushi a turn earlier to force hiim to play something. I call punt
I feel like you get so focused on your combo you start making bad plays with this one; I've seen it before where you just get too laser-focused and stop thinking about what the best play is for the situation.
Maybe you would have had more success with a deck built around blitz? This current build, the Ascendancy is very win-more. You need more incidental ways of sacrificing creatures IMO.
Watching the last couple weeks of ato and crim and budget magic, is that, wizard's R and D have no idea what they are doing. Invoke despair and sheoldred in the same colours was a terrible design decision. This reminds me of the DMR meta in warzone. Literally everyone using them :(
man I love the idea of this deck against my buds at the kitchen table but buying the manabase for a deck alone is prohibitively expensive, even without fetches. Can't drop 60 bucks on land to goof around
I try to run a few janky decks like this. but with so much incidental graveyard hate, exile based removal and 2 for 1's against the decks. some matchups you just get dunked on.
Yeah a lot of losses in this vid were due to Seth’s poor mulligan decisions. I wouldn’t keep a hand with all lands and 2 one drops nor would I keep a hand with just 6 drops
Right at the 30 minute mark he says he intentionally didn't put it in the deck because it isn't "against the oddsey enough" which I whole heartedly agree with. He's supposed to play fun cards that do fun stuff not good cards that win lol
Invoke despair is the most busted and miserable card. It's very often a 4 for 1 if you think of 4-6 damage as a card's worth of value. It gives black enchantment removal. It's heavy B cost doesn't even keep it out of 3 color decks with treasure and triomes around. Besides countering it, at best you can sacrifice a token creature but enchantments and planeswalkers are always high value.
a format full of incidental graveyard and enchantment hate makes this deck seem more AtO than average, almost feels like it'd be way better in some other format.
I don't feel good about limiting the card pool like in this one, not playing Fable of the Mirror Breaker, "because they're meta" and "not Against the Odds enough" :/
I don't like this scoop-happy meta. But I don't blame it either. Everyone knows once a player plays "the card" from their deck, we know the final result, even in you have a lot more of turns left, so why would you wanna wait for the unavoidable result?
This deck does not look optimized at all... albeit I'm not familiar with the meta right now nor have I been active as a player in standard BUT... the original POD concept had better overall strategy. The deck was a swiss army knife of utility. This list seems alittle too all in on the sacrificing. I would probably look into land ramp. You seemed to be struggling with lands the whole video. Original POD have all the mana dorks/land fetch (Zendikar standard) and mana ramp cards. I know there aren't necessarily cards like Primetime to add but that would solve some of your issues. Original POD (no matter the variations) have tons of just 1 of's with all difference CMC's. I used to run a 5 color pod with BoP, Resto Angel, Thragtusk, Primetime, Rune-Scarred Demon, Dead-Eye Navigator, Balefire Dragon. For fun I would pair up Dead-eye soulbond with every Resto angel or primetime and run out all my lands and win with Door to Nothingness. I got looks from across the table and room when I announced "Door to nothingness then phyrexian metamorph copying door to nothingness, go".
seth your intro and voice make me feel so happy dont change and you dont even have to make mtg content, just loop yourself talking nonsense for hourse and i'll listen. you should do a series where you read a short story out loud or something
Only works with blitz imo. Too many steps otherwise. Fill your graveyard play bigger creatures play ascendancy play a sac outlet. Way too slow for magic
You need targets for the Vivian ability, and since Vivian is already so expensive, you are already expecting to get up to the mana to hard cast them anyway.
Watching the video, I imagine that the arena's algorithm gives a bug... It's like he wanted to deliver the biggest cards to be sacrificed for the ascendancy... Maybe if he only had one or two, and focused the strategy on Vivien, maybe work better!
59:40 Seth explaining his master plan when opponent was dead on board with 0 cards in hand.
I think an unfortunate result of everyone packing heat for Fable of the Mirror breaker is everyone has some kind of enchantment removal if not main deck, ready for the sideboard
tbf some of that removal is also sheoldred removal
it's a mix of fable and wedding announcement as targets combined with the fact that there's just really good removal that has the ability to snipe enchantments. @@Atmapalazzo don't forget leyline binding lol
Against the Odds is my favorite series that you make
Cuz its more fun to play goofy stuff
Cuz it’s against every single odds out there
So here is another take on Riveteers for you.
Mill your graveyard of creatures, and use the wonderful 7drop that reduces its mana value to the number of creatures in the graveyard, you can potentially get a 6 drop on turn 4 with this.
I have a version of this but it’s writhing necromass + boon of boseiju
Does this deck play Urborgoyf?
@@ishtarsdonut4489 indeed it does, along with old stickfingers. My 6 drops of choice at the moment is the domain GB, sanctuary warden and Olivia.
@@TowanTalks I am very interested, do you have a list?
I love how this video kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time waiting for the combo. Very thematic with the art on Riveteers Ascendancy!
I think you can blame all the enchantment hate on WotC’s love of modal spells and the prevalence of Fable of the Mirror Breaker.
I love this deck and the ascendency, but watching every opponent scoop right before we do our cool thing is tilting
Every time he says "ay-jan-oh" I die a little inside
I also come for the Dockside “Chief,” Dread-”fast” Demon, and good old Bloodtithe Hah-vest-ah (is it from Boston?).
I really love when you combine more than one against the odds card. I've never seen Vivien on the Hunt played but you definitely found the right deck for it.
i'd love to see Vivien in another shell without Ascendancy, the planeswalker bizarrely stuck on the battlefield better than the enchantment which is strange.
wow this made me realize how much exile removal is in standard right now. it's kind of ridiculous honestly
It's actually there since quite a while.
We lost Vanishing Verse, Shadow's Verdict, Baleful Mastery and some others at rotation.
That first match domain aggro was obscene
Riveteer's Ascendancy has been a pet card of mine for a while. I was forcing it in a 5C Vampires Pyre of Heroes (Vampyre) deck last standard, and couldn't ever bring myself not to at least keep it as a 1-of, but it's just so slow.

Due to the graveyard being filled with stuff, i think writhing necromass might be good to put into consideration
I have tried invoke justice and cleric class together for white reanimarion and it is pretty sweet. You could try this next time
I like when Seth said "It's Olive-ing time" and Olived all over the opponent. Truly one of the videos of all time.
Who else thought that middle character in the thumbnail was Giovanna from Guilty Gear Strive
Only took 5 matches to trigger the namesake card once. What a deck.
Remember in spoiler season when Seth said cemetery desecrater would be super op and see a ton of play. I remember that
Little did we know it would work great in Alara combo.
That intro is fantastic!

cant believe that orzhov deck scooped to titan of industry... bro you have farewell in the deck!!!
You really couldn't catch a break this episode I'm sorry Seth I'm tilted for you
11:19 Against the Odds Phonics candidate: Dreadfast demon
That intro was nice but should have had the version with Keanu 'shopped in
Am I the only one who was worried we wouldn’t see the combo 😂😂 love the episode thanks for another banger
Honestly if you feel like a card like Fable would massively improve the deck I say go for it. I can't remember the last time I played Standard and didn't have it in my deck tbh.
we have that damn photo of the steel workers up on our office wall lol
I'd say fable counts towards the theme since the copies sacrifice.
... fable checks way too often ... for a lot of game plans - besides being a two-for-one and offering card selection.

40:22 How come you can't put Takenuma on the field here?
Match 2 Game 2 you absolutely should have attacked the second time with the titan, and you should also have played astushi a turn earlier to force hiim to play something. I call punt
The thumbnail is so underrated
Maybe March of wretched sorrow for early aggro/esper planeswalker tribal?
Overcharged Amalgam in a spells deck is an interesting choice.
Hey Seth, try Jodah and Ratadrabik with Shrines
I've never seen a planeswalker with so many loyalty counters on it until game 3
Color pie breaks are the new London mulligan. 😀
Damn you should totally add ratadrabik in this somehow
Those Titan of Industry skins are great
I feel like you get so focused on your combo you start making bad plays with this one; I've seen it before where you just get too laser-focused and stop thinking about what the best play is for the situation.
Ahhh yes when mom found out birthing pod was banned in modern and told me that we had birthing pod at home so don't worry about it
what is your MTGA assistant as it doesn't look like MTGA assistant from overwolf
The early scoops your opponents made where kinda wild. You paying people to scoop now Seth? Lolol
Match 1 was absurd holy hell
The two games combined were less than 3 minutes lmao
I can't help but call Seth a Persistent Petitioner for Riveteers Ascendancy.
Maybe you would have had more success with a deck built around blitz? This current build, the Ascendancy is very win-more. You need more incidental ways of sacrificing creatures IMO.
This deck looks so thematic and fun. Too bad it's expensive arena wise

Haha made a fun deck with ascendancy to play against my friend who is newer to the game. He hated it.

Missing 4 drop: body Launderer
Invoke despair should have been a choice.
TOTAL MISPLAY not waiting to dual-mode *Soul Transfer* in Match 3. That was literaly the match being given away

“Lesson is don’t lose the die roll against domain” how is that the lesson and not “don’t keep a hand full of your top end in the pod deck”

also Vensor, The sojourner with Stonehorn dignitary combo in there as well.

His voice is so annoying, but the deck tech is so good!
The perverse incentives on Arena make decks like this unsatisfying, people just scoop as soon as they see they are losing.
django reinhardt?? GO listen to him!
Only works with blitz imo. Too many steps otherwise. Fill your graveyard play bigger creatures play ascendancy play a sac outlet. Way too slow for magic
I bet that first guy also has omnious traveler somewhere. Definite net deck.
Zitoria is my favorite dragon.
Eaten alive could be good. removal that exiles and sac outlet.
its so weird, its almost like INVOKE DESPAIR IS THE PROBLEM RATHER THAN MEATHOOK, but, anyway......
