🌿Citric acid information:
When citric acid and sodium hydroxide lye (NaOH) are combined, sodium citrate is created. Sodium citrate works as a chelator in soap.
A chelator traps metal ions such as calcium and magnesium that can be found in tap water.
These metal contaminants can cause rancidity and soap scum in handmade soap.
A chelator binds to these metals so that they can’t bind to the soap molecules. This way the soap won’t react with them and the soap's lather improves + shelf life increases.
Citric acid does not lower the pH of soap. Instead it consumes some of the lye and increases the superfat. Add 6 g extra lye for every 10 g of citric acid added to a soap recipe if you want to keep the superfat % at the same level.
How much citric acid should be added to soap?
Usage rate in bar soap is 1-2% of the oil weight.
How to use citric acid
Add citric acid to the distilled water and dissolve completely before adding the lye, or make a separate solution of citric acid and distilled water and add to the oils.

Hi, I love your recipes but I just want to make sure about the use of preservatives. Since everything is plantbased, does that not call for a preservative to be used?
soap as a solid endproduct doesn’t really have problems with microorganisms or bacteria, but of course when it’s left wet they can start to breed. But she added citric acid, and sodium citrate is a preservative and also helps with against lipid oxidation.

Thank you so much💝 I have experienced partial gel in the past, to avoid it you can either keep your soap cool to prevent gel altogether or force gel and keep the soap warm😊

Surely that’s to your personal preference…as long as you balance top and base notes to anchor the scents. Well done for opting for pure Essential Oils as opposed to the not so healthy ‘fragrance oils’

have you tried making soap using only avocado oil instead of olive oil ? does it work ? and what would the color be if you don't use the wheat grass ?
Yes I have it's a great option to use instead of olive oil. I think the color would be beigeish

@@tellervo. that’s what I thought. Green is the hardest to keep when using natural colorants. Spirulina is the best for me but I don’t like the smell

Yes, leave the rind on for a green colouring…
Also you can use dried dandelions leafs .

Hi Tellervo, i live in tropical country and coconut oil isn’t harden like a butter, its liquidify, i want to ask u is the coconut oil still consider as hard oil or soft oil then?
I'm afraid that if I make soap from coconut oil in this tropical weather it won't harden into soap
It will harden, don't worry😊 The fatty acids determine if an oil is considered hard or soft and they don't change even if the oil is in a liquid state.

Just out curiosity because I’ve watched some of the soaps you’ve made and you’re talented. How come you don’t sell them? I think you would make tons of money off it. 🤷🏻♂️
The things I enjoy most about making soap are experimenting with different recipes and ingredients + making videos. Selling is an entirely different thing and not something i'm interested in at the moment. The regulations for selling cosmetics in the eu are also very strict which makes it kind of difficult.
