Wow does this bring back memories. Stationed @ Ft. Monmouth, NJ found an apartment top of a Victorian home in Long Branch. Didn't know NJ transit tracks were literally in the backyard and woke me up. Don't know if they are electrified or not now, but weren't then. It is a shame that fat a-s Governor Christy denied the new tunnel under the Hudson, it is sorely needed though I think it would be awesome to forgo that and build an over the water bridge for beautiful views of the cities. Yes, i did take the train to NYC and loved it though Penn Station @ the time was a dump.
