Several years ago I had to give a lecture in Toronto. I flew from EWR (Newark, NJ). It was a bumpy ride both ways and I only saw clouds. Then a few years later I had to give three lectures in Toronto. This time I put an extra day on either end, and took the Amtrak/Via Maple Leaf up and back. Going up, it was a relaxed way to make sure my lectures were ready, and coming back it was gorgeous scenery and a shoes-off-kicked-back mini-vacation. I haven't flown anywhere since.

The love the fact the Express trains going directly to Harlem-125th Street and Grand Central instead of stopping at Ossining and Tarrytown (ps I wish they were limited stops only for express service) I’m not a fan of them stopping at 2 stations

Nice. There goes #225 :) I am assuming for the Maple Leaf, somewhere before Penn Station, an Amtrak P32AC-DM probably towed the P42DC locmotive into Penn Station. Similar to Grand Central Terminal, I don't think some of the diesel locomotives are allowed to operate into Penn Station because of the fumes from the diesel fuel.

I have a question, why do these trains have a loco which pushes instead of pulling ? I've seen it everywhere in the States. It's really odd, how do they know when to stop, signals, etc. ?

+Zyon it's a push pull operation, it will take way to long to actually set the locomotive to the other end, causing delays

The sign is on the end of the public platform as a warning that if you leave the platform area, you are not allowed to wear that footwear. On the train cars or on the platform they won't care unless you try to go barefoot.
