“Something To Believe In” was written by frontman Bret Michaels after his bodyguard (and good friend) James Kimo Maano died on Christmas Eve 1989. After receiving the news, he locked himself in his room and wrote the song. Also shared in the song are Michaels' thoughts about his cousin Bob Huslinger, a marine veteran who served in Vietnam and received 2 purple hearts.
Yes, every part of this song related to someone from his life.
It's Bret not Brett though.
@@poisonlady1965 Sorry, my mistake I have listened to him since he was with Poison.
Also that part of the video was a "mistake" that they wanted to retape but Bret told them no because his true reaction came out while they were filming
He said that he'd trade all of the song's success and acclaim to have James back.
God Bless All Of Our Veterans!
Yes absolutely, we are forever grateful for sacrificing their lives for our freedoms 🇺🇸🙏
I was a huge a Poison fan back in the 90s even going to their concert when Warrant opened for them. My mom use to make fun of my posters bc of of the make up they use to wear. Now, all these years later, ever since mom saw Bret Michaels on the Apprentice, she's madly in love with him. She's a 70 year old woman who makes cat calls at anything showing Bret's face lol. She even refers to him as someone she knows personally 😆. She's so cute with her Bret Michaels crush 😍🤘✌😁
My first concert was Poison/ Warrant. I believe late 80s
Thats awesome 🤘
My mom is 71 and also has a crush on Bret Michaels! But her's started when I was a kid in 1990 and she saw the "Unskinny Bop" video. That song was even her ringtone about 15 years later!
They have a song I think you’d like called “Every Rose Has It’s Thorn.”
Thank you, Lady Gator 1983! I wish that I could like your suggestion 1,000 times....
One of my faves
@@rebeccawyse5562 Same here!!!
That video was filmed in Green Bay Wisconsin.
Every Rose was my son's favorite song so I had it played at his funeral 😭
Shout out to all veterans!!! RIP to my uncle, he was a Navajo Code Talker in WWII. Love and miss you uncle David!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
i would like to thank him for his service
Oh my gosh. The honor and respect I have for your uncle and all of the Navajos that served with him in that capacity is overwhelming. I'm in awe of your uncle and all of the men he served with. I can't imagine how proud you must feel to have known him personally.
Poison is one of those with so many hits its a rabbit hole.
Yesssss
My father spent 5 years in Vietnam and passed years later from complications from agent orange. I year up everytime I hear this song.
Amazing reaction.
Thank you
In my opinion this song the most emotion Bret Michaels ever showed in a song. He wrote it from the heart and it is a song that affects him. His emotion and knowing he wrote this about people he knew who passed is very heartbreaking. He is alot more talented than alot of people give him credit for. He was never just "A Glam Rock Singer wearing makeup". He is a brilliant songwriter and also does country music. He is intelligent and a very brave person. He has survived things most people would not. He had severe health issues and surgeries aside from being diabetic since he was a child. He survived and just keeps going with a smile.
You can tell when he's singing the verse about Kimo how much it's affecting him. He can barely mouth the words to it.
The line “he cried forgive me for what I done there cause I never meant the things I did” really gets me, it’s so sad
You have the most genuine reactions! Love that about you.
It was my pleasure and my honor to serve our Nation and its great people.
Thank you so much for your service
You should hear "When the Children Cry" by White Lion. That's a song I can't get through without an emotional breakdown. Every so often these 80's bands will put out a song so deep it will rip your heart out. They say something that needs to be heard.
or Mike and macanics in the living years.
@@amandawagner7563 Yup so true..
Omg Yes! Such a beautiful song.
we kinds need stuff like this now
@@davidransom4703 So true and some need their hearts stirred a bit.
If this touches you, their song “Life Goes On” raises it higher (and features C.C.’s best solo ever)
You should definitely do Every Rose Has It's Thorns. It's just as beautiful as this one 💜🤞✌🤘🔥
its thorn*
Love this song. Grateful to have seen Brett Michaels in concert 2 years in a row about 20 feet away... He is a very cool guy who gives much credit to our veterans. Thanks for this one. AKA Lowrider.
Met him and all the Poison guys, good honorable men, entertaining dudes.
@@joeybee1914 I didn't do the meet and greet they had, but both years he brought local veterans on stage with him. The one year he had us all hold our lit lighters in the air while they flew a drone camera over us, would love to find that footage, it was suppose to be used in a project Brett was working on.
Bret is my kind of man. Sing gorgeous cares for animals and human race. Best song. Every rose has a thorn
Mr CC DEVILLE is on another level on those guitars. Dudes a beast. I do hope u do more poison (talk dirty to me) if u haven't done that one yet. Love ur reactions
If u want fun uptempo songs from them, react to Talk dirty to me, nothin but a good time, i want action, fallen angel, look what the cat dragged in, plenty more! Some more ballads from them include I wont forget you and Every Rose has its thorns. Thank you. Great job always!!!
Classic hair band ballad.
Beautiful Reaction Good Woman. 😢❤
Just Love your Heart beautiful young lady... Very emotional song!!!
Faster Pussycat’s “House of Pain” would be a good listen. Also “Blurry” by Puddle of Mud.
Both are great ones.
Both are real good but personally House of Pain is better. Maybe it’s because I’m old and the 80s - early 90$ are the bar to reach. Blurry has met that bar also. Not too many are as good as those songs.
@@robclark8889 I think “House of Pain” does a better job of telling the story through the lyrics. With “Blurry” I feel like you need to see the video to really understand the message. Until I saw the video, I thought it was a breakup song. Plus I like that “House of Pain” is told from the kid’s POV. It hits harder, I think.
*Poison - "Every Rose Has it's Thorn" is a must do to next.*
One of my favourite songs
I have a deep connection to this song. After my grandmother passed away two years ago, I felt so lost. She was the one eternal optimist I could count on when times got tough, the one person who could put a smile on my face with just her voice on the phone. But this song hit me hard, and I learned the lyrics. As a result, I sang the song on a daily basis to channel my grief. My sister, a woman who's been my harshest singing critic, said I never sang better than during that time, before or since. This song means a lot to me. Thanks for reacting to it!
80s Glam Rock.🎸👍🏼🎼🎸......
I cry every time I hear this song!
C.C. made that guitar cry.
Boy with the way the world is right now, this song really rings true today. We all need something to believe in these days.
Rock band power ballads of the 70's and 80's are the best!
My favorite line in this song is "and it just makes me wonder why so many lose and so few win"
I’d completely forgotten about this song!!! Thanks for doing a reaction. ❤️
Same here. I used to love poison back around 1987-1989.
I was stoked to see Brett Michael’s performing in the street in the old part of Las Vegas about 10 years ago. Even though he was older it was fun.
Yep! This is how this song makes you feel!🖐😢✌️one great song and message behind it! Very touching song!
That's one of the deepest songs wow no one knows what our vets have to live with God bless them
Poison was awesome, and this song is one of my favorites!
I’ve listened to this song since it debut and sweetie I still cry. Everytime
Sad but beautiful at the same time!!
I hope you'll check out Warrant. Their songs are "Uncle Tom's Cabin", "Heaven", "Sometimes She Cries", "Blind Faith", "Bitter Pill", "I Saw Red", "Stronger Now", "32 Pennies", "Down Boys".
My fave Poison song!! Thank you!! ✌❤
was very suprised when poison did this song sometimes ...we neeed something like this to ground us
Life goes on is a great song from poison
Absolutely LOVE this song. It always hits me in the feels too. 🖤🤘
A great song. Thanks for your REAL reaction.
They have so many great songs. Ride the wind, Fallen Angel, Talk dirty to me. The list goes on and on.
It's interesting that the same bad that came up with Talk Dirty To Me also made songs like this and Every Rose Has Its Thorn. 🤷♀️
Also listen to every rose has its thorns. Going through a rough divorce I sent this song to her still ended up in divorce and this song hit home for years
I will be seeing these guys at the stadium tour 2022 along with Motley Crue and Def Leppard. Can't wait
Enjoy man
Makes ya wonder!!!🙏❤🙏
His friend was in the service...we never know what someone faces in life...y'all make sure you check on your strong friends too...k?
This is a true Gem that hits the soul. 🌹🥀🌹🥀🌹🥀🤙
I have always been a huge poison fan since I was 14. My husband wasn't so much a fan but, he loved every rose has its thorn. That was our poison song. The day I went to view my loving husband for the last time this sang was playing on the speakers . I asked the funeral home owner why that song was playing . He said Mrs emery it went the other songs that you asked to play and something just told me to include this song. I stared crying and knew in my heart it was my babylove telling me he loved me one last time. We would have been married 23 yrs April 2022.
I first heard this song on the armed forces radio network while I was deployed for the first gulf war. Like you, I've also been homeless more than once. This song hits me hard every time I here it too.
Life goes on is a great poison song. If you want a party song. Nothing but a good time.
Seeing this now reminds me of how old I am getting.. I remember going to the record shop in town and hunting this album down on cassette tape when it came out...
Legendary song by a great band.
Great song seen poison amazing live always a fan since 1986
if you look carefully you can see bret stop singing at the part about his friend as he chocking back tears
I just wanted to let you know that I watched your tour of Graceland. I loved the Elvis tour! Thanks for posting that! ❤️ on a separate note, I love Poison too!!!! great song!
They do good fun party it up songs, but when they do a balled you can expect tears, but over all their music is fun and just puts you in a happy mood ✝️🙏🏻😇
This one shows their musicianship really well. Love the piano..
@@melodymcdonald2140 that it does! Beautiful song altogether.
Great reaction, thank you for sharing!
This song is a masterpiece along the Lines of Gordon Lightfoot's "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald". As the song proceeds, you see the lyrics slowly tearing Jayy apart with their Impact. Congratulations making it thru w/o completely breaking down! I wasn't able to do that myself.
I use to listen to this some I middle school. Back then the meaning went over my head. Now in my 40’s it makes me so sad.
Most all of their songs are fun filled rocking songs but everyone has a soft side,
The song that made me a Poison fan…🤘🏼❤️
One of my favorite songs by Poison. This song was based on the fact that Brett's best friend died of a drug overdose during the Christmas holiday. Kimo's death (Bret's best fiend/bodygaurd) hit him so hard that it made him look at life in a different way. Great song, great band.
This is one of my favorite songs. It brings me to tears so much.
A L i k e 😁👍 for your Video greets from Germany 🇩🇪 🖐😁 ☘👈....
UUUGH ! This song makes me emotional every time I hear it ! You must hear their song " Every Rose has its Thorn " !!
Still never miss them live. They're great
i remember when this song first came out i was crying too!!!!
I can’t believe this is the first time I’ve seen anyone react to this song. I liked it before I hit play lol. You need to dive into the POISON rabbit hole. You won’t regret it. Crue and some others get all the love but these guys are so under appreciated it’s a travesty of Justice.
Thanks for doing this one.
It’s one of the best power ballads ever recorded.
Stand and Every Rose Has A Thorn are great songs by Poison as well ,slower ones.
Portishead - Roads live in Roseland
I lost my older brother to agent orange related illness....this hits home hard. God bless all who don weapons and a uniform to protect us all.
Got to see them when they came through our town. They put on a great show. Loved your reaction to the video.🎸☮️🤘❤️
i had the cassette for this when it came out -- liked the whole cassette but this one always made me sad -- beautiful and emotional
Credit to whoever recommended this song. I was a teenager when it came out, and I remember thinking it had deep meanings, but didn’t really understand it like I do now.
Jayy, most of Poison’s songs ARE more fun and upbeat. In fact, “Nothin’ But A Good Time” was their introduction to the world, and they’re well known by that. “Fallen Angel” is the only other sad song of theirs I can think of at the moment, though that’s completely different than this one. Another good song though.
One ☝️ of my favorite songs by Poison!
No matter your circumstance you can believe Jesus will carry you through it. That is something to believe in. Love your reactions. Keep them coming.
Every rose has a thorn is a masterpiece too.
If you look closely at the video, when they start showing footage of his best friend he wasn't expecting it. For a moment he quit lip singing to the music and you can see the tears in his eyes
great song thanks jayy your a beatuiful soul
One of my favorite bands from early childhood
名曲は何時までも色褪せることは無い……(ノ_・。)
何度聴いても泣ける……(ノ_・。)
when he watches the video of his body guard he knew that they were going to do some kind of tribute to him but he didnt know about the video the emotion on his face is raw and real
Check out nothing but a good time. It is the ultimate party song and a true rock anthem. It was featured in the movie Rock of Ages.
I just love you! You should know that...:) Bonfire - you make me feel. Waiting for reaction! :*
This song holds a very special place in my heart and I'll explain in full detail why. Christmas 1990 I got a walkman and this cassette tape was inside it. Well January 1991i was 8 years old andI was put in the hospital for an open heart surgery and me and my mom was in this little pre op room and I saw the nurse coming to the room with the IV bag and IV needle and I told my mom hand me that walkman and she did so I put the headphones on and pushed play and this song started playing and I was jamming out then I pulled the headphones off and asked the nurse "ARE YOU EVER GONNA STICK ME WITH THAT IV NEEDLE"? She said the IV is in its time for surgery let's go so thanks Poison for making me not scared of IV needles anymore. Brett you get it with being diabetic huh?
Your reactions are so beautiful!
A really great one that you can dance to by POISON IS ... UNSKINNY BOP
I might be biased, but when they hit it big, I had so much pride. Being as they came from right across the river from me. One thing a lot of people don’t realize is how ordinary they really are. True to their roots and always giving back. It’s always a sold out show whenever they come back to central Pennsylvania. The world has made Bret bigger than life, but Bobby, Ricky and C.C. are all the same as back in the day.
I've always wanted to meet Bret Michaels and tell him this story. Back in 1990 Christmas of that year I got a Poison casssete tape that had this song on it and on the other side was a song called Ball And Chain and a walkman well in January of 1991 I was 8 years old and I had to go into open heart surgery and I was in this little pre op room and I saw the nurse coming to this room where I was at and she had the IV needle and IV bag in her hand and she got to the room and I told my mom hand me that walkman and I threw on the headphones and the song Something To Believe In started playing and I pushed stop pulled the headphones off and I asked the nurse ARE YOU EVER GONNA STICK ME WITH THAT IV NEEDLE? Her response was THE IV IS IN ITS TIME FOR SURGERY LETS ROLL. And ever since then I have never been scared of IV needles.
The late 80s / early 90s was a heck of a time..
Poison is easy to lump in with the corporate hair metal movement. And while that's not wrong entirely, they did manage to sneak in some good art on their albums. This was one of those cases.
This was essentially their "Born in the USA."
Definitely on the soundtrack of my life
That song tour me up too and thank you and your welcome from a desert storm vet
The first 3 albums by these guys are some of the best things to come out of the mid to late 80s.
So under appreciated.
Yeah, you have it right that Poison is normally a more fun band with rocker songs. This was a departure for them as far as what was released, as even their biggest ballad “Every Rose Has Its Thorn” was more about relationships. This one had a global theme, I feel like. I suggest checking out something fun from Poison like “Nothin’ But a Good Time” or “Talk Dirty to Me” if you’re feeling spicy. 😏 I was obsessed with this band in high school and went to see them live, they put on an energetic show that was a blast. Hope to see more Poison on the channel!
oh you did this? i just gave you a thumbs up for doing this, such a beautiful song, this was about his best friend, anyways, lets see your reaction to it, thank you for doing this :)
Thank you for the really real reaction to a song that had a poignant place in my youth.
