- Well to save you some time I'm just going to say that value is wholly subjective and what may seem like too much for one person to pay isn't too much for another. It's all a matter of opinion. So this week we're giving our opinions on the matter. The internet has spoken, so now it's our turn. Join Logan Plant, Jada Griffin, Kat Bailey and Seth Macy for another episode of the best Nintendo podcast around.

Seth's room looks like it was designed by Wall-E. I love it!
Day after 4th of July.... Someone hit upload to early...
i'll never trust Seth again
Kat Bailey back on NVC, after so long.
Always appreciate her insights ( Kat Take ) on the gaming industry.
We need a Seth specific show where he just shows us what semi-forgotten piece of history he has salvaged in the old tech haven that is Maine.
My takeaway from this episode: The only one who should be allowed to scalp Nintendo products is Nintendo...
The short answer. No Donkey Kong is not worth $60. To say it's the same work/labor/resources as something like BOTW is just not true. And it's a remaster. Now. On a side note. Nintendo had a problem expanding IPs outside Mario and Zelda. Prime remastered was a great approach to expand that IP and they need to use the same strategy for non popular IPs.
Players choice and Nintendo selects only appear on consoles that are underperforming....soooo do with that what you will.
The Super Nintendo didn't underperform.
Thank you Kat for your take on the $60 remaster.
Yes. Metroid Prime Remastered shouldve been the standard, not the exception.
Seth, do you have a CoolPix camera from Nikon? They had a swiveling lens unit. It allowed the user to hold the camera up above themself while also being able to see the screen to shoot above crowds.
If Retro themselves were doing DKC Returns HD the price would be a lot more defendable. The problem is Forever Entertainment has shown through Panzer Dragoon, House of the Dead, and Front Mission that their remakes aren’t Nintendo quality.
It would not matter who made it. It's not a sequel, and it's the 3RD rerelease.
It just needs to be a great game. The remake is aiming for parity with Tropical Freeze, so don't jump to conclusions about the changes.
Welcome back, Industry Legend!
47:00 also my GOTY! It's the best combat system I've ever experienced in a metroidvania.
It’s the 5th of July !💥
Of all things physical media gamers seem to complain the most about pricing.
Yes.
Metroid has 3 games to get out and they arent typically great sellers. Then they have the new one to market. They will want to increase the likelihood of people experiencing the full journey. Plus the backtracking element is less timeless for some. Donkey Kong has only two timeless modern games.
Nice and witty comment
Kat is back! She lives!
Welcome back Kat!
Why are you dissing cigarette smokers? 🤨 jk it’s pretty much bad for anybody ❤
The Witcher 3 was never on Xbox 360. What is Jada talking about?
I meant XB One was going through my head when swapping consoles between generations playing games in the franchise and mixed up my time with Witcher 2 and Witcher 3.
The Kat Is BACK!!! 🙌🏾
With respect, not a fan
I'm as suprized as she looks
"oh shi...damn....." 😂😅
Yes but ONLY if you buy the Collectors/Limited editions of games take the upcoming DQ3 remake why SPEND $200 on the Collectors version via Square Enix's store/website when the NORMAL edition will only cost like $60 for it.
Wait, The Witcher 3 on the 360??
Literally as SOON as we stopped recording Jada said "Wait... I meant Xbox One, damn"
@@SethMacy Oh ok. Well, can't blame her. Xbox names are confusing.
I told everyone at least one person was going to point it out haha, damn these naming conventions haha.
Yes they are. And Luigi is more of an enhanced port than a remaster.
It is remaster
And yet it sells which is why it will continue
@@ausgod538 thats the problem with supporting lower effort premium priced releases because there's an IP collectors mentality
"Games were 84.99 back in the day on SNES".
But no. That was not typical. Such a pro corporate talking point. It's laughable. Gigantic RPGs tended to be higher priced.
Back when the market was 10% of what it is now
@Blballerboy no one ever acknowledges this simple, blatant fact. Because it would negate literally every argument.
@@chrisj320ac3 The argument makes little sense because EVERY INDUSTRY is gigantic compared to its size in the 90s. The DOW Jones was literally like market evaluations of 1000s of dollars instead of 10s of thousands of dollars. I'm not sure how this actually negates literally every argument. Supply is no longer limited and its infinite due to the internet. The comparison makes no sense.
Just a heads up on another fact:
"It has been estimated that the global videogame market made $159 billion in 2020, with over 70% of the revenue being generated from in-game micro-transactions (Strickland, 2020)."
The giant EXPLOSION of the video game industry really comes from exploiting users on games they already purchased.
Great job!
Nintendo tried to charge $70 for N64 games back in the 90s. It's all bowlsheet.
Awesome
12:30 Nintendo's strategy for pricing their remakes and remasters makes perfect sense, just because you don't understand it doesn't mean they don't have one.
They have said multiple times that they price their games on a per-game basis, and this applies to remasters too.
The Metroid franchise has always been a tough sell for Nintendo, and they are currently trying to build hype and brand awareness towards the release of Metroid Prime 4 next year, this is why they priced Metroid Prime Remastered only $40. They evaluated that pricing it any higher than that would decentivize curious gamers from purchasing the game and would limit its exposure.
Luigi's Mansion and DKC games sell extremely well so they don't need that kind of consideration, Nintendo can afford to price them $60 without impending on their sales.
Mario vs. Donkey Kong is a tougher sell too, but it's a full-blown remake so they settled in the middle at $50 because they are also in the process of hyping the Donkey Kong brand (prediction: we're getting a big new DK game next year for Switch 2, probably in 3D. DKC Returns Remaster is just to make us wait because the console was delayed to 2025)
You guys not mentioning how great of a remake Another Code Recollection is shows how limited tastes your in gaming are. Like come on IGN, actually get some people into the podcast that doesn’t just thrive in the 80s and only play the popular games
Can't believe Logan hasn't played not even a single Metal Gear game ... dude, what are you waiting for !!?
The answer is yes.
Does Nintendo still do the voucher program
They do!
Hi Everyone !
Hi Dr. Nick!
Metroid was priced correctly
the answer is yes, but not like nintendo will care
Why was Metroid Prime Remastered $40 but DK is $60?
DK is more recognizable than Metroid and sells more
It's the return of arrogant Nintendo this generation whenever they're on top. $60 at launch is fine, and everyone would be fine with it if Nintendo still did the Nintendo Selects/Players Choice $20/$30 a few years after it comes out. Not just remakes games like Yoshi, Kirby, Astral Chain, etc just disappear after a year or two and stop selling. We see a sale once or twice a year for $40, but if you have a Nintendo Selects line come out 2 years after release for $30 permanent price it keeps the games alive and keeps new gamers buying them.
It has nothing to do being in the top. Nintendo always have worked like that it's their default , companies in general just don't do selects anymore
Also Kirby literally sold almost 8 million so this isn't true. Either way Nintendo is satisfied with all of those performances so thry won't change how they work as a company
Game I've loved and not beat is Banjo Kazooie.
Wait, what day does he think this is? The 5th of July?
Yeah this was originally scheduled to go up on the 5th of July.
I'm sorry but if you think charging $60 for game vs $20 or $30 would make any difference to Nintendo's bottom line then you're not thinking right. These remaster prices are unnecessary greedy cash grabs and even the biggest Nintendo fan has to see that..
Full price for a 30 year old game .....yeah people wonder .
still nowhere near finish with tears of the kingdom
Just basing this on the title…YES $$$ 🙄
Episode from the future!!! What are the stock prices??
What a crew! Great episode as always
Thank you SuperNinFriendo!
Seth hates Dread? 😮 I'm half way through Dread on the dread difficultly level and it is truly dreadfully difficult.
Yeah, cause that’s what he said.
dude said he loved dread it's just that he loved PoP more
My brain brain can't handle that type of nuance. How could liking one thing more than another not mean hating the other?
@@patrickpickett7040 🤣
Day after???? Y’all went to back to the future?
Remaster or remake...The Bouncer.
Yes please, ive been asking for that for forever, heck id take it as one of those PS2 games on PS5 at this point.
In conclusion, it's only overpriced if it's a remaster/remake of a game that you don't care about
Nice comment
Excellent panel! Happy 4th everyone!
This panel is so disconnected from the average consumer.
Very disconnected!
Agree, big time
Ahh. Yeah these guys are out of it.
Gaming is a luxury, so its not aimed at the “average consumer.” If that were the case, then the price would reflect that. In the end, the market dictates the prices.
@@NostraSamus I'm confused. Do you think ALL forms of entertainment are luxuries or just gaming? How do you justify this position? Are movies a luxury? How about music? Books? How are all of those things both competitively priced and yet also a luxury?
Saying "it's a luxury" like it's supposed to be overpriced in terms of other entertainment is really disingenuous. It's not a private jet. That's a luxury. It's just entertainment.
Yes
Rant… even on a Nintendo podcast can’t avoid spending like 10 minutes talking about Elden ring. My brain literally turns off when people talk about that game.
YES
Logan really changing his tune every break of the video realizing backlash 😂
This gen Microsoft and Sony INCREASED the price of their console after they were released. The pandemic and the resulting inflation screwed the entire market. By not increasing the Switch's price Nintendo effectively gave it a price drop in this context; $300 today is worth $234 dollars from 2017 (-22%).
For old games yes
Daft question. Course they are
There should always be a caveat with these discussions and if this panel actually pays for these games vs free codes. Happy 4th!
Yes, absolutely yes.
Absolutely no.
It don’t matter, people still gonna buy them…complain about $60 price tag right there at the register as they purchased lol
Yes, but people buy it and they know it, so it doesn’t matter if we think they’re too expensive.
No.
Show should be called npc
Love to have Kat back on the podcast. Industry legend.
Nintendo knows their timeless value, so they can price their games however they want. Don't like it, don't buy it. 📈👍
And folks who were around during the GameCube era need to realize they're officially old (considering that Paper Mario TTYD is over 20 years old), and those games still stand the test of time. I'll take a remastered F-Zero GX any day! 😎
ign there is no one that is going to watch a 1 hour 18 minute and 5 second video of you just spouting nonsense
Actually 12,000 people did
A problem with voting with our wallets on overpriced ports is if there isn't a new DK, the excuse will be sales and "we should've voted with our wallets" and bought DKCR
The love of my life… KAT BAILEY… IS BACK!!! 🫠
Dude you might not be trying to defend a multi billion dollar corporation, but there's a lot of leather residue on your tongue.
If your immediate reaction to a valid point is to accuse someone of bootlicking, generally speaking you're not really someone to be taken seriously. You've decided to ignore an argument in favor of some unwavering stance, which is as lazy as it is boring.
Logan should be host of this show.
He is, sometimes.
PlayStation normalized $70 games and you're talking about Nintendo? 😂
70 for a new 1st party game is fine. 60 for a port of a 10 yr old game? No.
NO
What a bunch of non answers. No integrity at all.
In what ways?
No.
