Floods submerge cities in southern China | ABS-CBN News

Torrential rain has caused flooding and triggered landslides in southern China.
In Hunan province's Pingjiang County, more than 340,000 residents were evacuated, state broadcaster CCTV and local media reported, after the rain caused the river water level to rise to the highest since 1954.
In a video aired on Tuesday (July 2), CCTV showed severely flooded urban areas with floodwaters of at least 1 meter in height. Rescuers were seen evacuating people from their balconies and roofs. In one incident, rescuers jumped into waters 1.5 meters high inside a house to save a toddler, CCTV reported.
The persistent torrential rain has forced authorities across municipalities to ramp up emergency plans as swollen rivers threaten the lives of millions.
The torrential rainfall is expected to ease on Wednesday (July 3) in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, according to China's National Meteorological Center.
