Thank you for sharing these lessons. I bought the mini harp 19 strings with 5 chords from a thrift store in a good condition. Fall in love with the instrument at first sight😊but I don’t know how to play it. do you have any advice how should I start? and what books I should get? or should I follow regular autoharp lesson? Thank you.

Great introduction. Keep these lessons coming. So that my picks do not slip, I put Pine Tar on my fingers first. It can be messy and I must try to not get it all over my music.

What sort of picks do you use? I find the plastic ones tend to hang on better than metal since they are quite flexible.

If picks fly off = too loose. If fingers are purple = too tight. For the thumb. I use the ProPik Metal/Plastic Thumbpick. The Delrin plastic pick part does not wear down. I hate to change a worn-out pick since it is so hard to regain accuracy with a new one. I use a metal pick on my index for loud melodies. My other fingers use KELLY FREEDOM PICK DELRIN that allow bi-directional strums. Consider that the harsh metal pick sound is only heard by the player since the ear is so close. I wear an ear protector in the left ear for protection and to hear what listeners at a distance hear. But everyone must discover what suits them.

Cling Pro picks are supposed to be the best for AH. They are expensive and are made in Canada. I use Dunlop Cobalt coated finger picks and a Delrin thumb pick

With much thanks to you for that. Hope you're doing great, buddy. I played with one of my Irish clubs at a pub last night for Christmas and didn't get home until 130am... we had a great time playing and singing! Cheers!

Howdy Jerrel - You can actually bend plastic thumb picks and finger picks by placing them in very hot water for a few minutes, wearing gloves and then gently bending them!

I hate hearing the blup-sound of hte picks. It must be the way I am playing, right? Following and subscribed. You are so talented, one with the instrument. I admire you. (This noise is driving me nuts!)

What sort of picks are you using? That is a tough challenge to detail with. I can make a video about some picking techniques. You can deal with that by actually contacting the string ahead of time and resting your finger on the string, then striking the string by pulling away. That reduces pick noise but takes practice. When we approach the string from a distance and at speed, it is the initial contact that makes pick noise. I use plastic picks to reduce the noise. Thanks again for watching.

I prefer to play with bare fingers too but I'm probably loosing a lot of "sound capacity" of the autoharp
