Reflecting on my life's lessons, thanking the Most High for giving me the gift of receiving the message. Some people go a lifetime without living and learning. It's the gnowledge for me; we all got something(s) to overcome and when we do it's blessings on blessings.
I think it helped portray visually mental health issues. From peeking out the window (paranoia), to laying on the floor barely able to finish the lines(depression), to hearing things that weren't there (schizophrenia). And putting the humanity back into what people often dismiss or try to ignore. That's just my take. Awesome video.
i feel like Kendrick seriously has no equal. his personality, his insight, his performance artistry, his obvious vocal artistry, his unapologetic acknowledgement of his darkest traits and traumas while juxtaposing it with wealth and status… i have such a deep respect for him even purely on an intellectual level, his skills are incredible but what he’s saying is ALWAYS important.
This was my takeaway: Like the whole song is about isolating himself from the outside world and healing despite all the bad things going on in the world. And in the beginning he’s wearing all read and has all of the blinds closed. And the mood of everything is manic and it’s very clear he’s struggling with stuff. Then the phone rings but he’s still not ready to pick it up and he just keeps on dancing isolated in his mansion and struggling- and then using the phone with a cut line is either like just about how he’s completely cut ties with the outside world or about how when he speaks he feels like nobody actually listens. And just like the shots and everything just show how he almost feels numb and lost while he’s going through loss. Then he starts looking a little more like not crazy dancing and wears black to symbolize how he’s mourning and processing the things that have happened to him. Then at the end he’s wearing all white to symbolize how he’s processed everything and feels healed and everything and the sun is shining through his windows and he’s finally opening back up to the outside world - and then it ends with him being called on by everyone once he finally feels like he’s healed and deciding whether to pick up the phone. And like it just beautiful shows loneliness, numbness, how crazy it feels to really change who you are, his emotions about being financially capable to isolate himself and live comfortably while other ppl r struggling, healing yourself to be able to help others. It’s just so good.
the phone is a representation of the mind, (kendrick was talking to himself) then he hangs up and lets in the light the phone at the end was an interruption, the mind is an interruption of the heart, we have to find a balance,
Sometimes I just watch these Kendrick music videos because that's when we usually get to see him since he's not so much on socials. But then you really get us into detail and actually invite us to receive meaning. I absolutely admire your work, big up 👆
Kendrick is doing shadow work in this video, to build on what you said about his status. He’s isolating right now to work on himself, Red is is shadow-self fighting through his traumas. brown is him, the ego, the person on the outside at home at war with himself, white is higher self and after finally achieving it the phone rings because his “higher calling” is reaching out to remind him he has work to do for the outside now
a big theme of the album is Kendrick's infidelity. Hence lines like "Can't fuck with you no more, i'm fasting". In the video, the phone that he uses to call other women ("text messaging bitches got my thumbs hurt") has been cut off, he thinks he has overcome his addiction. But addictions aren't things that simply go away, they take constant effort to keep in line. So at the end of the video, Kendrick is shocked to see the phone ringing again despite him cutting it off. His addiction wants to be in his life yet again and it is trying to get to him any way it can.
Lowkey looking back I see a lot of bars that could easily be aimed at Drake. I feel like he was struggling with what Drake was saying and wanting to fall off his path and confront him but also staying focused on Mr. Morale
This is exactly why MORTAL MAN is my favorite Kendrick song.... He been trying to tell us about handling internal trauma, even when your so called "ppls" fade away.... King Kendrick 👑
Genius-which reached my spirit for a long time before I even looked into the meanings behind the video and lyrics and now going deeper than the vibe this song speaks even louder to me. Makes me feel hope to remain up¬ let life keep me down
I see him progressing thru the alchemical stages of spiritual growth. Whitney must have just left him and he’s processing the loss in isolation. The colors represent each stage…red to black/brown/ blue then a brilliant white.
I can relate to this so much. I always thought more money would make me happier. When i was struggling with bills. I got what i wanted but the cost was way more than i would have thought. I dont get to see my family much because its far away and its night shift. I was happier when i was seeing my kids more and struggling with bills.
Could it be about trying to keep a rich spirit during the loneliness, isolation and uncertainty of the pandemic? Then the phone ringing at the end could be his fabs calling him back to reality after the world started to come back to normal
Weird cause I figured it was him speaking on how money can’t buy your happiness or heal yourself with wealth you have to do that yourself and how he’s slowly putting it together.
Yeah, that part. I believe that went over most people's headz unless they were listening AND hearing at that point in time. Most were not. Btw😂I think Ye finally heard that #Damn phone call and it made him "flip out" which is another thing being left out of the discussions #BetaIsrael

Kendrick was also calling the prophet Mohammed, and referencing fasting, brotherhood, and the instrumental was influenced by the Islamic choir nasheeds at HIS SONG 1:52, Have a look
Kendrick was searching for god and god finally called! Phases of awakening red means he was in his root chakra money lust fame him looking through the window is the paranoia it brings when in beige he’s was on the search of god military discipline but still felt alone in his pursuit! Finally self realization finding god within made him shine again his true light and finally found purpose and then god called him looking at the phone in disbelief his last move is to pick it up and start doing gods work!
Just like having nobody understands his album lore appreciates what he does. No one gets it no one listens no understands a complete communication breakdown
dude, really nice video, but you really should put the lyrics from some verse when its important, because to people like my (enlgish isn't my first lenguage) becomes kinda hard to understand some parts, but great video
I didn't understand the party "im Christ with a shooter and the one where he prays. Can someone explain me that, please? Because, like, is he "hipocritically" mocking the gospel? Im upset about that and i can't understand.
This the official lyrics The aloof Buddha, I'm Christ with a shooter Praise to Muhammad, I might nigga noose ya It’s wordplay with religions I guess. Buddha aloof like how his followers don’t have real access? Just like he is he isn’t always on internet and is aloof. Christ is considered the only way to God - a direct path. Like him comparing himself to how he shots - he direct and always hit his target. And Muhammad part and nigga noose I think he playing on the Drake not really understanding black history but also saying noose like he will delete him and back to Mohammed cuz his followers delete themselves as part of their religion My understanding lol
He is talking about the hypocrisy of idol worship. People call him a "savior" of hip hop, but he is just a man with with flaws like anyone else. This is also a reference to the album art where he is taking care of his kids with a crown of thorns while also having a gun in his back pocket. He's basically calling people out for saying he is a godly figure.
Also note how dated the visuals are.. From the carpet, phone, decor, etc.. it's like he's been trapped for several years without contact with the outside world.
I remember listening to mr morale . Dealing with my own confidence issues . Not knowing if I can make my raps stick any more . I had a beer , a blunt ………….. and a cracked phone
some people don’t know abt kodaks past and criminal record, which makes it really weird to put him on a kendrick album abt self-healing and realization. I think kodak is on the album to show that people as awful as kodak still can be better as a person and that there’s a reason in his past (such as abuse) that fuels this malicious behavior.
He's a Gemini. Our mind is designed in such a way that we are the first to discover the truth and when we deliver it to others, we are already hungry for new information. Pioneers in everything and forever lonely because the world is generally stupid.
Going within becomes the only option when the world around you fails. Failure, disappointment, confusion, "why the f**k am I here?", going within to find yourself, to finally release the God that was placed inside you when you were created, that's the rich spirit, no amount of dollars can buy that. God created you in his image, and he is asking, "dear one, I gave you dominion, why are you crying to me when I richly blessed you with authority?", you got a rich spirit in you, used it. Connect with your higher self and heal, your human body is just an earth suit children, just an anchor for your spirit, your rich spirit. Go within, fast, pray, and introduce yourself to yourself, the silence, the emptiness, the void, the soup of nothingness is where the creative juices flow. You can't run away from yourself until you decide to be yourself, do this and the devil will be riding your d**k. get in alignment and balance yourself, this is transformation!!!!
Bro whats up with the echo bro is your production team on holiday, hear me out your concept is so cool but the audio... there is a residual echo that i am hearing and its irritating me, its like listening to "I love you, you love" on repeat. Next time lets try to work on the audio. I love your work mate keep it up
How do yall make your spirit richer?
isolation from the world and it's many distractions, for a time. While being meditative and having some ascetic practices (fasting. celibacy)
follow the exact words of god so throw away that entire aunties diary song

My favorite track on the album. I listened to this on repeat for days before proceeding with the rest of the album 🥰 🙌
hes like me. *looks outside, such a great day. closes the curtains so the sunlight doesnt come in and just chills inside the house*
Exceptional breakdown. I feel like you analyzed a part of me through this song...
This is a classic album I love Kendrick !!! This song stays on repeat ….

Would say that curtain scene is even a nod to Malcom x
