- Steve Belfer gives a guitar lesson on his 1997 SpongeBob Squarepants Closing theme, AKA, SpongeBob ending theme, AKA Spongebob Ending Song, AKA SpongeBob Outro! "I wrote this tune at Steve Hillenburg's request having only seen his original educational comic that predated the Spongebob pilot."
This song is used during the end credits of every Spongebob episode and has been covered numerous times by players of all ages! Hope you enjoy it!

the tip about mistakes is very helpful honestly. although i don't play guitar, im trying to learn to not stop when i make mistakes on instruments and somehow incorporating it into the song. it's really difficult, but when it works it's fun

Watched SpongeBob when it premiered!
Loved the video, and now I know the exact reason why the live versions were different.
SpongeBob was one of the few shows where I watched the credits as a child, and it's only made awesome by the music.
Side note, 2 versions are being made for the earworm song. One is the style of Rackin' My Brain, and the other is a SpongeBob version. If it's Steve Belfer inspired, there has to be a few variations.

it was incredible to go watch colordog after it being mentioned in your previous video, and i was reminded of abstract film like stan brakhage. there's just so much thats possible with cartoon colors and shapes that haven't been truly explored. and i'd also like to say a few months ago i started a project trying to analyze the SB pitch bible and having this channel show up in my sub box keeps me motivated to keep working on that analysis.

and actually, nick jameson had a similar sentiment in regards to what you said about improvization, but for voice acting instead of music: "i really specialize in bad impressions, cus if you do bad impressions you can come up with really interesting characters. if you do a good impression, yknow, you're just doing the impression."
@@SteveBelferOfficial i do have text inserts, but the analysis is in video form so that i can more easily compare clips of the cartoon to the excerpts. basically seeing how those original ideas from 97 would manifest, in many cases 1:1, to episodes aired in 2000. that kind of creative control is rare and ought to be celebrated :)
You have no idea how much this made my neurons tingle. I love this goofy little song. I've tried to make my own covers of it a few times, and I feel like I've underused the vibrato part - it's not as easy to keep in mind since I work almost exclusively with MIDI and play way more piano than guitar. :p
@@CoopsieDaisies thanks for the thoughtful and kind comments. You could try a tremolo, chorus, or rotary speaker effect to get that modulation if you wanted to!
@@SteveBelferOfficial I'm experimenting with that as I'm typing this comment. I put in an electric organ and made it extra wobbly with the chorus effect, and it's really doing what I wanted!
I love that you have a YT channel now. I'm sorry to say that despite always adoring SB, I wasn't that aware many people who were behind Spongebob's creative team, from animation to the music (I'm most interested about the classic stuff), but perhaps that's because the contributors weren't terribly public for a very long time, maybe unless you knew where you were looking! I listen to so many behind the scenes podcasts and watch vids for context behind the gems of our pop culture landscape and sadly for ages SB has been a dark spot of knowledge for me. But not anymore!
