    Hey Guys if you have not heard Jeep has officially done a Recall on the Frame Welds of the new Jeep Wrangler JL, so as I stated in my Video, never buy the first year of a vehicle beeing redesigned , so for everyone thumbing down saying I only bought a JK because its what I could afford? I hope you see why now I did not go JL....

    I got the JK due to the 3.6L V6 engine , no start-stop, normal sized key, and the fact that there isn't a 42V battery underneath the vehicle LOL

    I think the JK started in 2007. I have a 2008 JK Rubicon JK, six speed all stock,came with 255 tires, 31 in high. 17 mpg hilly country. 20 on flat roads. I have no need to clime Rocks. Great ride nice and quite. Love it. I'm taking the off road camping route.

      Dennis Moore you are correct I realized after I made the video about the start of the JK generation was that I was referring to the interior refresh they did in 2011 because I did not like the interior from 07-10 but was too lazy to change it

    • @eustace2c2
      @eustace2c2 5 лет назад +1

      @@AngelsTravelUnravel They also switched from the 3.8 "minivan motor" to the 3.6 we have now. There might have been a few other minor mechanical tweaks. I actually liked the 2007 interior. I don't really like the cargo netting door pockets etc of the 2011-2018 JK's as I've seen those stretch out and look kind of sad. What I don't miss is the constant squeaks and rattles of my 2007's hard top. My 2018 JL is completely silent, it may squeak later but right now it's tight.

    • @stephenisaaks1
      @stephenisaaks1 Год назад

      I have a 07’ two door JK 4x4 and I love the rugged interior that is reminiscent of the TJ interior but grown up a bit. The refresh in 2011 changed it from a true Wrangler to a soccer mom SUV, unfortunately. That’s why I wouldn’t own a later than 2010 JK. The 3.8 has plenty of speed and grunt, can’t understand why people call it a minivan engine. I’d say the minivans got the Jeep engine tbh. I hear a lot of people complain that the 3.6 Pentastar they replaced it with is trash and not nearly as reliable.

    $45-46k for a JL Sport? I've priced out JL Rubicons at $53k loaded. If I build a JL Sport loaded out on Jeep.com it only comes to $36k.

      I paid $44k for my JL Rubicon with some decent add ons. For instance, you really don't need the expensive $1.5k 8" display when you can just go with the standard 7" display and use your apple carplay/android auto for Navigation.

    To each their own. I see your point but I still would rather have a JL over a JK, no matter what package. Just the uconnect, transmission, interior to start with are so much better.

    • @AngelsTravelUnravel
      @AngelsTravelUnravel  6 лет назад

      Robstunner you are correct the Uconnect is not very user friendly in the JK I do miss my Uconnect system in my Grand Cherokee!! And yes there are many advantages but I am in love with my JK winter edition I hope the JL start rolling out special editions soon as the Sahara was out my price range and the sport to me was just not doing it too much plastic everywhere

    Everyone has their own opinions. I bought a JK in February, and in my eyes, the exterior on the JK is nicer. Does the JL have more tech? YEAH! The JL has lots of cool features. But I spent thousands and thousands less on my JK than I would have on a JL so i have more money to mod mine and make it the way i like. Props to anyone who wants the JL and can spend the extra money, though!

      I also got a 2018 Jk unlimited upgrade from 2Dr 2016 Jk. Jl are nice but didn't feel like a jeep and no CD Player. Too much tech for me stop turning wranglers into cars. Price wasn't a problem Jl only cost 3000.00 more no 💿 Player was the problem. Call me picky but it is what it is.

    • @Twilightfan377
      @Twilightfan377 6 лет назад

    • @MegaJugganot
      @MegaJugganot 6 лет назад +4

      You really do bring up a good point on that though.
      I'm not going to say the JL isn't a jeep. Every generation of wrangler thus far...well..maybe except for the 3.8L JK...has been more offroad capable at stock than the last. And their whole lineup (Grand Cherokee, Renegade, etc)still has better offroad capabilities (again, comparing stock configuration) than their respective competitors.
      But honestly they've gotten away from the demographic that made their name. I understand that soccer mom's and mid-life crises are really good for making money...and I'm actually not going to say there's anything inherently wrong with that, and I have nothing wrong with having a trim level for them....that's kind of what the Sahara is...or at least should be.
      I say that because Jeep isn't just selling a vehicle with the wrangler. They're selling a lifestyle. But in their quest to sell luxury to those who can afford it (which, again, I'm not saying is a bad thing), their pricing has started to leave behind the people who made the lifestyle they're selling.

    My JK vs JL comparison (for me, a 2 door Rubicon soft top)
    My JL pros
    -possibly the new 2.0 engine (I also like the Pentastar)
    -8 speed transmission
    -quicker throttle response
    -soft top without ‘cross bar’
    -soft top no zippers
    -quieter soft top
    -body color roll bar
    -flat horizontal dash
    -lighter/aerodynamic tweaks = better MPG
    -real metal interior detail
    -real hardware (not faux bolts) interior
    -larger cup holders
    -air vents for cooling under hood
    -more slant in windshield (think rock damage)
    -doors stay opened
    -cabin is slightly longer
    -doors remove easier/faster
    -telescopic adjusting steering wheel
    -bigger storage tub
    -stronger and lighter tailgate
    -better hood latches
    My JL cons
    -auto start/stop (I know it can be disabled)
    -the bumpers (front and back)
    -front running lights on fender flare
    -too much digital visual “noise” on dash
    -rear camera (I know I can take it off - and I will)
    -no hard drive in radio to store music
    -looser steering
    -the $ cost $

    After 7 years it looks like new underneath, no rust at all. People are getting serious rust issues in the JL, not just the door latches but the actual frame. You can buy two JKs with the money you will end up paying for the JL.

    A "decent" JL is absolutely not well over $50,000. I just spent $41,000 on a Sahara with the LED lights, with the back up cam, with the tan leather, with the leather stitched dash, with the heated seats and steering wheel, with the 8.4 inch infotainment system, with the upgraded Alpine speakers and sub, with the trailer hitch and aux switches, with the premium soft stop, with the painted fenders, with the 18 inch chrome and black wheels, with the all terrain tires, with the all weather floor mats...you get my drift. Nothing has been carried over from the JK to the JL. All of the JK's issues were addressed in the JL. The new hood latches prevent the hood shake, the head lights are bigger and brighter, the shocks have been angled more upright for better road handling, they put dana44s on the rear of all JLs. They brought back classic Jeep heritage by styling both the exterior and interior to reminisce the old CJ-5 (bent grill, vertical dash). 2 weeks ago I test drove a JK and then a few days later the JL. The 2015 JK hardtop was $31,000, the brand new JL soft top was $45,000. I went home and crunched numbers and signed up to every forum I could. I came across a dealer called Koons in Northern Virgina. All the forum members said how they got 5% off INVOICE from Koons. I contacted them and sent them my build that I made on Jeep.com which totaled $45,290. They came back and said it would be 41,230 +tax, tags and $700 processing fee. I then went to the other dealer by me (NJ) and they said it was crazy. Best I could get them to was $43,500. I contacted Koons and pulled the trigger. Brand new JL Sahara from the factory with my name on the sticker with 90% of the options available for $41,230 (9% under MSRP). you don't need no 50 something thousand for "decent." Yeah a hard top is $2,000 and so is an automatic trans, but IT'S A WRANGLER!!!!! Damn things are supposed to have the top off and be bumping gears. I asked the dealer how the hard top came off when I was sitting in the 2015 JK, he told me how. Latch here, latch there unscrew that there and lift. I asked him how the top came off on the soft top and he SHOWED me how. Boom, two latches and it's back. Watched a video on cabin noise levels with hard top vs soft top in the JL. They were the same. I turned on the AC while I was test driving the JL. It was cold instantly. I watched a video where the guy tested the discharge air, it was 38 degrees! If cool works that good, heat should be no problem, soft top will keep anyone warm or cool when necessary. Plus I have heated steering wheel and seats. The only real reason one would go with the JK over the JL is because $40k is just truly out of range and their ceiling is $30k., otherwise it's a mistake. You could get a loaded Sport S with the leather and infotainment and LED group etc for about $37. DEFFFFF dont need $50k. Only the Rubicon, absolutely loaded, MSRP is about $56,000, but most ppl don't need the mechanical features of the Rubicon. and if you go to Koons, that full on loaded Rubicon would probably be like $51-$52k.

      Hey Nick thanks for watching, its important to NOTE at the time of publication that was indeed what they were asking for the JL wranglers, there no lease/sale specials infact I still have the dealer breakdown, they were brand new and dealers could not keep them on the lot, however Now they are much easier to not only purchase but they have some insanely low Lease deals on them as well, when I made this I went with the information presented to me at the time and that is always subject to change given rebates, manufacture deals and such.

    The very best thing about JEEPS is the ability to mod and make it your own and use it how you want. I don't plan on crazy rock crawling and breaking crap. I have sacrificed a lot and continue to, in order to afford it anyway. I waited a year to decide between JK or JL. When I found out about price increase and most of what I cared about remained the same, I pulled the trigger and hopped on a plane 600 miles for the deal to get my white 17 JKU Sport $6500 off MSRP, knowing I could guilt free mod the crap out of it (lift, lockers, bumpers, killer wheels, 35 Mud Grapplers, etc, all super awesome deals on EBay). I am 100% LED for under $300. I freakin love it and may never ever sell it. Funny, it's also kind of like a never ending art project like nobody else's and doing the JEEP wave around here is pretty cool too since most people totally into it here! HUGE JEEP community! I'm still seeking out new trails when I can. I'm always thinking what to do next even if it's just to paint some little thing or fix something that's bugging me. Sorry for rambling but yeah, I'm so happy I went the JK route because otherwise I would have a still stock JL.

    Sounds like to me you are more justifying your purchase which sounded a bit too emotional rather than being informative. While the JL will have available a variety of new engines, these will be fully rolled out within two years. The only engine available now is the 3.6 Pentastar V6 which is the same engine in your JK. The 8 speed transmission is the same one already being used in many Chrysler-Jeep vehicles for years. As those are the most important components of any vehicle your argument about fear of “first production” runs is a bit mute. Jeeps were never ranked in terms of high quality products to begin with in comparison to let’s say Toyota’s and even you admit your Grand Cherokee had problems but you still came back.

    I traded my 06 Rubicon LJ (Long wheel base TJ) for 18 Rubicon Recon JKU. So obviously I could have afforded to purchase a JL if I wanted and I still choose not to. First of all like you said never buy the first year of a new model, and secondly I just did not like the shape of the JL. The JL took on some type of round SUV look and now every woman and her mother has one to mall crawl and attend soccer practice (sarcasm, but y’all know there’s even an uptick in women talking about Jeep is their dream car). I also have plenty of creature comforts in the JKU especially making a 12 year leap from a previous generation. Don’t get me wrong there are SOME things about the JLU I like, but 3 years later I’m still happy I purchased my JKU instead of a JLU. If I ever change my mind, I can always trade for a new JLU, preferably one of these new editions or concepts coming that were not available 3 years ago. That would be difficult to do vice versa (especially limited editions) and impossible to acquire new.

And the lights are so small in comparison, plus the slight slant to it doesn't look great. Imo jk has the worst grill of any jeep.

    I also have a '17 JK. I just couldn't justify the price of the JL, plus I wanted to customize my stereo and not the new JL has everything integrated.
    How big of a difference was the ride between the JK and JL? I came from a Cadillac SRX, so that's the one thing I really miss, the smooth ride.

    • @AngelsTravelUnravel
      @AngelsTravelUnravel  6 лет назад

      you may be correct about the LEDS, however, I was told by the dealer that the wiring harness is totally different from the LED setup could have been a plot to sell off his JK inventory, but I am very happy with my purchase still :), I will give the JL a few more years perhaps once the Diesel is out I will jump ship.

  • @ViperJon

    Anyone who is seriously comparing the two and ends up buying a JK is deluding themselves and trying to rationalize not spending the money. There are dozens of small things (backup camera, door detents, grab handles built in, much improved hood latches on and on. And so many big things, assuming yo don't buy a stripped down JL. The info screen on a JK is literally Atari quality and the JL is an Xbox One. And so many other things. The craptastic plastic interior on a JK is so 2008. So stop pretending its not about the money, its always about the money. (Oh yeah....I've owned both)

      ViperJon hey john this was made when the JL first came out and was based on my experience, as I mentioned in the video price was infact a big factor but with that said I’d take this JK over a JL Sport any day the value was not comparable. Hey Angel, I appreciate your honest review and reasoning for buying a JK over a JL. I was originally a 4Runner fanboy, but after driving in the JL I can't get my mind off of the driving experience and possibilities a jeep can bring (taking the doors and top off is just a big fat win, let alone you can get them in manual!). I've been obsessing over the JL versus the JK, I guess the prospect of something brand new is always more exciting... but my brain is screaming "DUDE LOOK THE OTHER WAY!".
    A few reasons being:
    1) it's been completely redesigned and we're only on the second model year (opinions about first versus second model year welcome here!)
    2) The entry level of 48k for the build I want... madness!
    3) Aftermarket parts are going to be more expensive for the JL as the JK parts get cheaper since it isn't the "new" thing anymore.
    4) A lightly used JK Unlimited Rubicon (less than 20k miles) can be found for 15k less than a brand new JL - MOAR UPGRADES!!
    5) I'm not a fan of the color options for the JL, or at least I think there could be some better options on the way (which would kill me).
    I welcome everyone's opinions and thoughts as a Jeep is a definite thing that will be happening, just a matter of time.
    Yes, the price is a factor here, I don't necessarily think I should be spending almost 1/3 of the cost of my mortgage each month on a vehicle IF the new model/upgrades aren't justified.
    I'm mostly looking for something that will last me forever, will get me through whatever trail I want to go on (within reason), and is something that I can love for many years to come.
    Thanks for reading my comment, looking forward to all of your responses.

      Wahid Hadi hey Wahid that is precisely why it does make sense, this was my personally decision, I was in a position to look at both and personally for me the JK made more sense. What I am saying is now is the time to buy a JK. 6 months from now when they are gone all you will have is the JL and imo there are just not enough options at a comfortable price range for me anyway to warrant purchasing one. That doesnt mean it wont change in the future, but right now any decent JL model is well over 50k and forget about dealer discounts, anyway thanks for watching!

      Don't knock a way better generation because you couldn't afford it. It's was a price thing you clearly said it. I sold my 17 JKU for a 18 JLUR. 55 grand I think is a steal for what the Jeep is. Also, you could of added led light to the JLU and factory Rubicon wheels cheaper then you would of from the dealership. Bad info.

      William Hernandez hey Will thanks for watching thats actually not true I was shopping for a JL before the JK, it was after I test drove it and compared it to the Jk that I decided to go with one. I said for my money I got more with the JK and yes its hard to justify the price of the JL right now for me personally. I choose the JK because of the value not because its all I could afford again thanks for feedback

      @AngelsTravelUnravel  6 лет назад

      William Hernandez also on the LED, I asked the dealer how easy it was to swap them with the Sahara LeDs according to the dealer it cant happen because the wiring harness is different and I would have to splice wires. Could it not he true? Sure but this is what they told me and the lack of aftermarket accessories at least for now compared to the JK was another

    I’ve owned both. 2011 JK 70th anniversary 2 dr and now own 2018 JL Sahara. Although both are great the JL is a major improvement. Most of the issues with the JK have been addressed and fixed. LED lighting in and out are the biggest improvement. Uconnect has improved with built in Siri. and apple CarPlay works like a charm. Yes it’s expensive but worth every penny.

  • @lucifer0001
    @lucifer0001 5 лет назад

    I think that the J.K. came out in 2007 for a 10 year run? The motor & dash were up graded in 2012. I love my 2016 JKU. It's a great truck & all that tech. crap could cause the owner grief once old age starts to creep up on those high tech controls. One good thing about the new JL. & JLU.'s is that the price for aftermarket JK.'s, TJ.'s & YJ's parts are getting cheaper. lol The older Jeeps are simpler to repair in the event of an apocalypse & chances are they'll be easier to find cause who the hell can really afford a JL/JLU with the way the economy is going? As far as Wranglers go if you've always wanted one buy what you can afford. You can always customize it later plus you meet so many interesting people who will always help a fellow Jeeper stuck on the side of the road. Always remember to only go offroading with a few other four wheelers & always tell your family & friends what area you will be wheeling at.

    The JL 8-Speed Automatic compared to the JK 5 Speed automatic is a huge difference. My JKUR seemed powerful enough with 35" Tires and and the 5-speed. Our NEW 2019 JLUR is so much better with the 8-Speed. We are running 37" tires on the JLUR and it has so much more power than the JK just from the 8-speed transmission. I was thinking I might need to regear for the 37's but no need. When I buy a vehicle I don't buy it for the Rims and tires that are on it. I will never buy a dealer fixed up vehicle unless you want to pay double what it would cost to build it up yourself. I add my own Rims and tires to every vehicle I purchase. Dealers charge too much. We had to test it out after being only a week old on the John Bull trail here in Big Bear California. You should be happy with both but if its not about price get the JL.

    7:38 minutes listening to your reasons convinced me that you have little knowledge of the jeep wrangler. your future reasoning hopefully will be based on engine details, transmission case, gears (not if one has 8 speed vs 6! But actual gear ratios), suspension, overland performance etc. However, you appeared to be a typical walmart driver paying attention to how the wheels look and if it has LED and if they look pretty. These things matter when you want to buy a toyota hybrid cars or maybe jeep GC but NOT a jeep wrangler! Finally, the pinned comment about "its what i could afford" then why don't you just make a one minute and say that at the beginning!

In my opinion only one JK line can really compete with JL when it comes to design is Rubicon Recon 2 doors with manual transmission, so that’s exactly what I got. And after replacing factory shifter with B&M performance, it took my Jeep to a different level. Congrats to all JL owners! Jeep is Jeep no matter what. I just bought a brand new JK too. I really don't like the look of the JL's, and of course there's the fear of problems popping up in the beginning of a new model. Sometimes it takes a couple of years to work out the new bugs. Maybe in a few years, I could get used to the "Look" of the JL's, but right now, for me, they just don't have that classic "Jeep look". Plus, mine is a beefed up, Rocky Ridged-up (if that's a word?), Grumpered (I know that's not a word!), kinda' beast of a Jeep, and the JL's (in my opinion) just don't look as cool if you're going for the aggressive look.

    Urgent, pls help! Not sure about frame welds -- was it on a specific build date range or run?
    I do have a similar question about 2018 ruby vs Sahara but there's a TWIST.
    Pricing is the same now for a 2018 JK Rubicon OR a 2018 JL Sahara. Which one? I don't plan on serious off-roading. Probably.
    But for camp/hiking, biking, some snow.
    My FIRST jeep.
    I test drove a JL sport last year, automatic.
    But I can get either a JL Sahara or a JK Rubicon. And yes I like some of the creature comforts and wouldn't mind a factory rearview camera. *yes I know I can get one installed on the JK.

    Both the Pentastar and the WA580 5-speed automatic transmission were introduced into the JK in 2012, with the interior refresh happening the year before. Even though the powertrain is somewhat dated now, the JK is still a great Jeep. Sure, it doesn't have the bells and whistles of the JL, but it's still just as capable.
