It all boils down to a cowardly British military incapable of handling an angry crowd that was of their own making. When you have power, your responsibility is to control that power responsibly. What if an armed Marine infantry unit came into your town and took advantage of your neighbor’s and family? Posted themselves at your local supermarket with armed guns? Stayed in your home, eating your food, harassing your daughters, and using the Crown as an excuse and to shield them from having to take any responsibility for their actions? Then, when you’ve finally had enough, you and your neighbors protest them peacefully, yes angry, yelling, throwing fruit, but still unarmed… and they fire on you, killing your brother, mother, or father? What then? You have to look beyond the black and white. Oh and believe me, this damn well can happen again and we’re already heading that way because of knuckleheads that refuse to go beyond the mainstream narrative and expand their thinking.

The characters in the crowd were actually really good, one guy was writhing in the street, it was super convincing like he had actually been shot. It’s just those little details that make it so good.

Well the Hispanics were more culturally and ethnically related to the native Americans than the Spanish, while many Americans still identified as British or whatever European nation they immigrated from. Round balls tended to poke holes in people and just keep sailing through, which is shown in ballistics gel tests done in modern times with muskets shooting round balls. For instance, a .44 caliber black powder revolver shot a 140gr round ball at 700 fps went through 32 inches of ballistics gel. A Brown Bess musket fires a .69 caliber round ball which weighs 770gr and with a typical powder charge of 100gr of black powder, it leaves the barrel around 1,800 fps. Therefore, it is very much plausible that it went through one person and into the next, or the next.

The shot will have ~2,800 J coming out of the barrel, and it kicks quite hard, despite the heft of the musket (I know this first-hand: I fire my Brown Besses at the service load, and have chronographed it). It can easily go through 4" of pine at 50 yards (it practically destroys it), and I imagine it'll go clean through a man at that range as well.
I like the historical authenticity of a thing like this being very hectic with lots of yelling. It was a product of tension, misunderstanding, and distrust. Like most historical events. Only in retrospect can we trace causes and effects. For the people there, it was just an angry, terrifying moment in time.
It brought tears to my eyes to see how well the reenactors and the crowd composed themselves. Even the spectator's "you go home" wasn't that out of line, or ill-recieved. I suppose I have lost that much faith in American patriotism to expect worse. God bless you all!

One thing you need to understand about the Boston massacre is that the shot that started the chain reaction of musket fire amongst the crowd was not known and could have been from multiple reasons like, a person stealing the firearm of one of the sentinels and end up with a misfire, or just a warning shot over the heads of the mob. Both of these could have been plausible reasons to spark the massacre.
Incorrect!! Crispus Attucks, a sailor of mixed African and Indigenous ancestry, was the first casualty on March 5, 1770 after British soldiers fired two musket balls into his chest. Which started the Boston Massacre. They WERE NOT warning shots, misfires, ricochet, or stolen weapons.

I love how chaotic they make it look. Of course, its played for safety, and nobody is taking aim AT each other, but for a live demonstration this is fantastic! most people who see renactors will see them march in neat lines at one another, or in quaint period-style houses... this really humanizes it, and having them screaming at one another like that reminds us that while this was a massacre, the british soldiers were probably terrified of some dude clubbing, and maybe even shooting them.

Its sobering to actually see these events told and the real losses restated. For my whole life they were just stories in history but watching reenactments has really brought them, the men who fought and died for the country I live in today, back to life.

It is rather nicely done, though I must admit, I’m always perplexed that this complex historical event is ingrained so deeply into the consciousness of every Bostonian and every New England Yankee. In our own times, Boston along with much of Massachusetts, is well renowned for being a major cultural stronghold of Irish-American Catholics. And yet, the Boston of Colonial America was about as anti-Catholic as well as anti-Irish as it gets. Indeed, colonial Boston was practically the East Belfast of it’s time. Catholics most definitely were NOT welcome there in 1770. Ironically, most of the men of the 29th Regiment were comprised of young Irish Catholics who had enlisted in the British Army. It might not even be so absurd to suggest the likelihood that some Boston folks today might very well be able to trace their family ancestry to a member or two of the ol’ 29th. It would certainly be more likely than finding any relation to a member of the mob who attacked them that fateful night in March, that’s for sure! I might also add that as a policeman’s son, my sympathies lie more with the British soldiers of the 29th than with the cowardly gaggle of drunkards, shifty-eyed lowlifes, and violent street urchins that aggressed towards them and provoked them. Those fellas were all young farm lads, many of them under the age of 20, who all came from the backcountry hinterlands of the Mother Country. They were tired, hungry, and homesick. The mob had absolutely no right to attack them. Those poor lads were equipped with Brown Bess flintlock muskets, capable of firing only one shot at a time, with a fairly lengthy priming and loading process; whereas the frenzied derelicts attacking them were all armed to the teeth with clubs, bricks, broken bottles, and an assortment of other weapons. Let us not forget that it was none other than Boston’s own John Adams who represented the men of Captain Preston’s regiment and got them acquitted. They were never actually convicted. If you want an outstanding, top shelf pair of books that will show you the historical truth of this incident, I would highly recommend Eric Hinderaker’s book, “Boston’s Massacre” and Richard Archer’s “As if an Enemy’s Country: the British Occupation of Boston and the Origins of Revolution”. You won’t be disappointed!

new taxes on tea or other goods....which had already been mostly abolished by the event (aside from the tea one) shoulder your arms should be shoulder your firelocks... unpaid wigmakers (not barbers) bill had been paid...though it is true the apprentice didn't know this at the time. yes, the redcoat did strike the apprentice with his musket what they don't show just before the shots are fired is the volleys of stones, oyster shells and clubs that were hitting the red coats....though they did correctly do the volley as undisiplined due to no order given you may now slam me for my post....
Incredible reenactment. I briefly heard about the Boston Massacre in Canadian high school, but now I'm finally seeing it. The audience being involved verbally in the angry crowd makes it even better, alongside the "you go home" line 😂. We need reenactments of everything in the NA colonial era, even events that were peaceful.
Shame those actors didn’t have fake rocks, snowballs and stuff to throw at the soldiers as a form of protest. Also the guy who said ‘You go home!’ Makes me chuckle.

Imo, it wasn't the fault of the British. The crowd was actively attacking them with rocks and sticks, if your life is in danger you should have the right to defend yourself. It was a good reenactment of the Boston Massacre. I didn’t like seeing the living historians wearing what look like clothes from the 1800’s . The redcoats ( Lobsta backs) uniforms and brown Bess were perfect for their time period even the drummer’s uniform and drum was perfect.

I love reenactments like this. I wish my country would do reenactments for forgotten historical events like the Battle of Bubat, which after 1357 made us like Ukraine and Russia (but 656 years later we're just throwing racist jokes at each other, not throwing grenades in the trenches).

One thing you need to understand about the Boston massacre is that the shot that started the chain reaction of musket fire amongst the crowd was not known and could have been from multiple reasons like, a person stealing the firearm of one of the sentinels and end up with a misfire, or just a warning shot over the heads of the mob. Both of these could have been plausible reasons to spark the massacre.
Incorrect!! Crispus Attucks, a sailor of mixed African and Indigenous ancestry, was the first casualty on March 5, 1770 after British soldiers fired two musket balls into his chest. Which started the Boston Massacre. They WERE NOT warning shots, misfires, ricochet, or stolen weapons.

I’m glad this video was made for clarification. You see I always thought the brawl happened after the British and Americans starting arguing over if it was called foot ball or soccer.
I kinda feel bad for the reenactors portraying the British troops. Like you put all the effort into learning formations, how to fire and load the weaponry, and build a character, then the moment you step out into the square people boo and yell insults at you.
They probably expected it. I wouldn't be surprised if the crowd was told to boo, as well.

It's far more enjoyable to play the bad guy.

@tk-6967 yes, but the taxes were stupid because they were on trade goods with Great Britain, and Britain banned all trade from foreign countries like France, Prussia, Spain, and the Netherlands. So they were basically being charged taxes for the things they were being forced to buy

I love how chaotic they make it look. Of course, its played for safety, and nobody is taking aim AT each other, but for a live demonstration this is fantastic! most people who see renactors will see them march in neat lines at one another, or in quaint period-style houses... this really humanizes it, and having them screaming at one another like that reminds us that while this was a massacre, the british soldiers were probably terrified of some dude clubbing, and maybe even shooting them.

So glad I made it in person. This event gave me the drive to get involved in reenacting. Now I'll be a Grenadier at the Boston tea party this year!

Its sobering to actually see these events told and the real losses restated. For my whole life they were just stories in history but watching reenactments has really brought them, the men who fought and died for the country I live in today, back to life.

i like the acting in this but i dislike how it portrays the british as brutes and thugs in fact the first british soldier we see didnt in fact hit or beat up anyone that night also it says a officer gave the order to fire when in fact the shots were fired out of confusion and fear what would u do if a bunch of men were trying to assult you and were throwing rocks and stuff at you and shouting it would cause confusion and fear activating the fight or flight response and in this case they choose to stand there ground

12:56 this guy back there with the tartan pattern on his pants did a really great jobs i got goosebumps because of his scream they sound kinda real and the other guy who drag them to the window 20-30 seconds later did a great job too he tried to help him and bandage him with a piece of cloth great work its just on the background but that makes this simulation way better and gave us a feel how horrible it really can be

It is rather nicely done, though I must admit, I’m always perplexed that this complex historical event is ingrained so deeply into the consciousness of every Bostonian and every New England Yankee. In our own times, Boston along with much of Massachusetts, is well renowned for being a major cultural stronghold of Irish-American Catholics. And yet, the Boston of Colonial America was about as anti-Catholic as well as anti-Irish as it gets. Indeed, colonial Boston was practically the East Belfast of it’s time. Catholics most definitely were NOT welcome there in 1770.
Ironically, most of the men of the 29th Regiment were comprised of young Irish Catholics who had enlisted in the British Army. It might not even be so absurd to suggest the likelihood that some Boston folks today might very well be able to trace their family ancestry to a member or two of the ol’ 29th. It would certainly be more likely than finding any relation to a member of the mob who attacked them that fateful night in March, that’s for sure!
I might also add that as a policeman’s son, my sympathies lie more with the British soldiers of the 29th than with the cowardly gaggle of drunkards, shifty-eyed lowlifes, and violent street urchins that aggressed towards them and provoked them. Those fellas were all young farm lads, many of them under the age of 20, who all came from the backcountry hinterlands of the Mother Country. They were tired, hungry, and homesick. The mob had absolutely no right to attack them. Those poor lads were equipped with Brown Bess flintlock muskets, capable of firing only one shot at a time, with a fairly lengthy priming and loading process; whereas the frenzied derelicts attacking them were all armed to the teeth with clubs, bricks, broken bottles, and an assortment of other weapons. Let us not forget that it was none other than Boston’s own John Adams who represented the men of Captain Preston’s regiment and got them acquitted. They were never actually convicted.
If you want an outstanding, top shelf pair of books that will show you the historical truth of this incident, I would highly recommend Eric Hinderaker’s book, “Boston’s Massacre” and Richard Archer’s “As if an Enemy’s Country: the British Occupation of Boston and the Origins of Revolution”. You won’t be disappointed!

what they don't show just before the shots are fired is the volleys of stones, oyster shells and clubs that were hitting the red coats....though they did correctly do the volley as undisiplined due to no order given

Incredible reenactment. I briefly heard about the Boston Massacre in Canadian high school, but now I'm finally seeing it. The audience being involved verbally in the angry crowd makes it even better, alongside the "you go home" line 😂. We need reenactments of everything in the NA colonial era, even events that were peaceful.
Its fascinating that this event is still debated to this day!! I like how it tries and shows both sides. God bless the USA.

Imo, it wasn't the fault of the British. The crowd was actively attacking them with rocks and sticks, if your life is in danger you should have the right to defend yourself. That goes for a police officer getting attacked by some crackhead with a knife and 100% goes for soldiers who are being basically beaten and abused by the crowd who had started the affair by yelling at the British captain
My justification does not mean that it wasn't tragic btw, just saying that it wasn't the fault of the poms and is a justified shooting

It was a good reenactment of the Boston Massacre. I didn’t like seeing the living historians wearing what look like clothes from the 1800’s . The redcoats ( Lobsta backs) uniforms and brown Bess were perfect for their time period even the drummer’s uniform and drum was perfect.
