  • Knuck was the one who suggested this one to me for ages, and I finally decided to do it. He also lent a hand in the production, supplying a version of Henry's tender without the coal load.
One note I will point out: From this point on, all my videos will be filmed in Trainz Plus beta, the beta for the recently announced Trainz 2022. Some of you may notice that with the usage of Riley's MK1 advanced camera, which was fixed with the recent Plus Beta patch.
Right, that's it for now. Merry Christmas everyone. See you in 2022.

The Flying Kipper will always be the greatest TVS episode ever. Because it showcased how and why the Allcroft/Mitton juggernaut was a perfect match. David Mitton learned his model making and filming craft while working under the legendary Gerry Anderson on Thunderbirds. Mitton used the tricks and techinques he learned from Gerry Anderson to bring The Flying Kipper, a simple story in RWS, to life and make it feel enormous and special. Rest In Peace David Mitton. You shaped all kids childhoosds for the past 50 years

What about Rev.Awdry He did make the RWS and shaped Thomas the tank engine and friends

    • @lokomotion726
      @lokomotion726 Год назад +8

@@Mustardwithgravy I'd say stories more like Edward's Exploit, Escape, and the Skarloey books are more renowned railway series stories, but flying kipper is truly legendary, amplified even more so by the model adaptation. You get to see Henry's joy, his world come crashing down, then being saved by his Crewe rebuild. You get to see how he overcomes his disability. In the books, it's only illustrations, and obviously it won't be the same, but the same stories in different mediums are entirely different. Also, in the model adaptation, the wreck is presented as seriously as it should be, like an iron titan just collapsed. In the books, it is presented as more humorous with the guard's cocoa being spilt. In this, the realism and mood of the crash is one of the things that improved on the original story.
Yes, Awdry created the railway series, but Allcroft and Mutton created the model series from that.

Everything about the tv adaptation is tonally perfect. Once Henry crashes, there is a minute of silence for the audience to take in what just happened, and it isn't sugarcoated with cocoa humour during the aftermath of the crash.

This is a weird observation but I like the detail of Percy helping to clean up after the crash.
He was the station pilot at the time, and one of the first engines ready first thing in the morning.
He was more than likely assigned to take the Breakdown Train to the site of the accident.

It's actually pretty incredible that people can relate to the character of these steam locomotives somehow someway
Young children relate to Thomas when he first arrived on Sodor. The young, cheeky engine that's eager to show what he can do and gets a little mischievous in the process
Grandparents can relate to Edward and Toby. Engines that are old but with years of experience under their buffers. They get teased for being old once in a while, but proven time and time again that they are just as capable as the young engines. They keep going and Edward even shares his wisdom with the other engines while Toby let's them learn their lesson the hard way if they ignore his advice
Those who are disabled or going through a rough time can relate to Henry. Being an engine riddled with problems from the start, having the biggest accident he's had and emerging a better and stronger engine from that experience. These people have experienced the difficulties and sadness that comes with their disability or problems like Henry has with his steaming issues. These people can look up to Henry and give them the hope they will one day overcome their difficulties and emerge a better stronger person
    It's amazing.....

    Grand work as always!
The crash was especially good. I like how you can see Henry coming around the bend in the background, and then within a split second he's already crashing. That moment of silence post-crash was a nice touch too.
A few nitpicks. I don't know anything about editing these models, but I personally think Henry's front end should have been much more damaged and bent. I also think it got too bright too quickly; I've always felt the accident occurred while still mostly dark out. Lastly (and I admit this is _really_ minor), you gave Henry the incorrect head code for his train. (There should be a lamp on his center lamp iron instead of on his smokebox; as far as I know, most fish trains tended to be equipped with vacuum brakes from end-to-end; both the RWS and the TVS depict the episode with the aforementioned right-iron/center-iron headcode.)
Good stuff as usual! Keep it up!

Brilliant animation asnd beautiful graphics - The original, TV models version was (and, for me, still is) one of the most genuinely frightening and convincing crashes done with models ever made. You've matched, and possibly surpassed it. Certainly, making the fish train appear over the fireman's shoulder is a touch of genius. In reality of course, the guard wouldn't have survived - his very narrow escape is perhaps the weakest point of the original Awdry story - and the Ringo Starr version carefully doesn't mention his fate.
As a technical point, I like the way you've made Henry a 'stretched' Ivatt Atlantic, with an extra set of driving wheels, drawn in a totally convincing manner. The Reginald Dalby drawings, showing him as a 4-6-0 suggest he'd have been rough riding, as well as poor steaming - there're no carrying wheels to steady the firebox.
