    The protests are not about one black man dying. Had this been one isolated incident, this wouldn't have happened on this level. This is the result of several people dying /On Film/ after decades of people and the government denying that this even happens (or acting like the people somehow deserved it- as the cops were trying to claim before the video went mainstream).
    Again, the importance of the videos is that noone believed that this happened. If any black man, woman, or child was killed/beaten/harassed, it was because they were threatening or violent, causing them to fear for their lives. Now people/governments are seeing videos of black people getting harassed/beaten/killed over lies (Officers and Karen's out and out lying about what happened and deliberately using the person's color to ramp up the incident), and it's getting harder to deny, therefore making it harder to tell people to shut up and stop complaining.
    The other part of this is that people and the government always have an excuse to tell to shut up and wait for justice. I mean there have been generations for people to get our act together. However, apparently, it's never a been politically relevant time for things to change, and it never will be.

    The usual strawman "you said protests were bad because of covid a month ago, but now protests are good?"
    I mean, the difference is that people were literally demanding the "right" to not wear a mask and to open up places, literally protesting against the best interests to fighting covid. The protests right now are to not get killed by police, most of them wearing masks at the very least to protect against infection.
    Asking to get killed vs asking to not get killed. Yuge difference. And now a month later, we can see that places where the largest protests took place have not had an increase in corona cases, yet places that opened up earlier are seeing record cases.

    Skipped to the Scandinavian discussion. I'm not an epidemiologist, but am doing my PhD in viral sensing receptors (TLR7s) and have been reading a ton of COVID-19 literature. He is INFURIATING. Obviously Destiny picked apart the glaring stupidity in his arguments but to add to some of the things we have to take into consideration when comparing demographics are:
    - Population Age (Age is one of the strongest factors)
    - Population density (Higher density populations spreads faster)
    - Overall population health ( Diabetes, Cardiovascular diseases and Obesity are huge risk factors for morbidity/mortality and vary dramatically from country to country)
    - Diet and well-being ( Vitamin D and Zinc are immediate examples of immune system modulators which are being linked to good responses - generally. Interestingly a lot of Scandinavians take Vit D supplements due to their long winters.)
    - Healthcare systems and access to ventilators ( Obviously reduced access to healthcare and intervention to help with pneumonia will massively impact mortality.)
    - Weather ( Links to vitamin D but also Corona-viruses are heat sensitive and generally degrade faster in heat and light so hotter countries have advantage in this aspect of transmission)
    - Ethnicity demographics (BAME people appear to respond worse, in part because of generally worse socioeconomic conditions in western countries, more care work and "front line" social jobs like taxi drivers, security guards etc. Also higher rate of some risk factors like high blood pressure in part to genetic factors)
    - Cultural traditions and interactions (Countries with more intimate social greetings like Italy and spains kissing to meet or the handshake heavy interactions of the Iranians are all thought to have contributed to their fast spread)
    and these are just factors I can think off the top of my head as someone who has no formal background in epidemiology alone, just read some reviews. Taking some of these into consideration , Sweden has done awfully, with a death rate per capita on par with the UK which has a much higher overall population density, one of the largest most densely populated cities in Europe, higher incidence of comorbidities and much higher frequency of international travellers who could potentially start fresh, new community spread chains throughout various regions of the UK. The fact that he believes he knows the answers more than people who spend their whole lives learning to model this and a myriad of other transmission factors is a perfect example of Dunning Kruger in effect. Like how tf does he think a virus spreads? How can not locking down ever give the same outcome given that people are interacting far less? Complete moron.

    This guy is so painfully misinformed on the United Kingdom. We went with a herd immunity strategy for a month. The exact same approach as Sweden. We chose to let coronavirus run through the population which led to mass of uncontrollable infection. The only counter measure we took was wash your hands. No lockdown. Our failure of a government was comfortable letting 250,000 people die to protect the economy.
    We only changed course when it became apparent the healthcare system would collapse. Which would have resulted in not just tens of thousands more people dying from coronavirus, but tens of thousands of people dying from other diseases because they would be unable to get health care. We locked down then. A month too late.We have still after nearly 3 months locked down, not regained control of the infection. At present we have more deaths per day than all 27 other EU members. And 2000 infections per day
    This is precisely what happens if you do not lock down. Had we locked down over 90% of those who are dead now, would be alive. We would have reopened sooner and our economy would have recovered faster
    p.s. per capita Sweden is the 5th worst performing country on the planet. And rising. Not locking down is a terrible strategy.

    There wasn't a viral video about it
    Ton'y family had to fight in court to get the video released.... 4 years later.

    They were in grass

    • @spythe
      @spythe 4 года назад +5

      @@mcmugget "EMT", rewatch a slowed down video of when the "EMT" show up for Floyd... it looks like people in cop outfits that just picked up his body badly and tossed him in... vs Tony where you actually see an EMT and Tony being treated.
      Instant reaction will always be greater vs 4 years later.... yeah getting actually cop footage is preferred but if Floyd's death was released 4 years from now... the reaction would be a lot different.
      The protesting isn't just solely based off of Floyd's death... its back to back to back cases, Floyd was just the most recent/last straw.
      Arguing demeanor is very important.... I strongly believe if Tony's cop arrested Floyd, he would still be here today.... watch both videos, there is a clear change of demeanor once they realize he isn't just passed out......vs Floyd's cop never giving a single fuck.....
      People keep saying the cops were joking about killing him, its clear it was just dark/joking humor from a situation they deal with on a regular basis.
      Cops clearly care in some cases... I've seen cops loosen cuffs if the person being detained is reasonable..... seen cops take a guy that just killed multiply people to a burger king.... give someone their last cigarette, etc....

      Reactionaries always like their whataboutism. Even if Tony's case were 100% equivalent, the context is vastly different. And of course there's some randomness in what stories become big as well.

      @lukeg8466 4 года назад +4

He was crying saying "you're going to kill me" and "please let me go" and they responded by laughing. There is obviously a racial problem in America but police brutality effects everyone.

    • @bill7282
      @bill7282 4 года назад +1

      Im fairly certain there was a study done that demonstrated stories with a black victim and a white offender in these cop situations got significantly more attention from the media at all levels (local, national etc.). Its been years since i remember reading about it so i could easily be misremembering or mistaken, but I'm sure it would be pretty easy to find.
      And yeah police brutality is an American problem, it is more prevalent against blacks, but it happens at an INSANE level even against whites. There are tons of cases where cops will kill white people under very questionable circumstances and the case goes nowhere.

      The lockdown substantially delayed the rise in case count in the initial phase, however we do not have the means to sustain a lockdown forever. So we could have a discussion on when and how to end the lock down, which was a big topic here. But what does it matter now? Everyone's protesting, riots are breaking out, so much for a lockdown. These rioters in New York, LA, pretty much everywhere I've seen are not practicing social distancing, are they. The masks only do so much.
