Listening to Jim’s humble brag about being unaffected by anything sounds like it should have (unlike those weaklings who are) added in. Becoming someone incapable of empathy is also a trauma response. This guest has the patience of a saint.
Such good information. I never in a million years would have thought I had trauma. But recently in past few months I discovered I did indeed have trauma. God is unraveling it bit by bit and I’m learning how to process it and heal from it slowly. Thank you focus on the family. I listened to the podcast with Debra Fileta and I just really spoke to me. Thank you
We're glad you found this helpful @rebagrinde6272. If we can come alongside you in any way, please give us a call at 1-800-232-6459. We're here for you as you journey through the healing process. -Luna H.
“I’ve forgiven this, and I choose to forgive again. This tactic won’t work on me anymore Satan. Be gone in the name of Jesus Christ” A counselor gave me this gem that I have to use multiple times a day some days, as I’m recovering from betrayal trauma. Also, Lisa Terkheurst has a book Forgiving What You Can’t Forget, that I have found extremely helpful! I have scripture verses in an album in the photos app on my phone to remind me that God loves me, and I can rely on Him and Him alone to help me through this healing process! It’s been 16 months since discovery and many months of therapy to get to this point where I am able to do the exercises that help lead me through forgiveness and healing! Thank you for this video. Another helpful tool!

I think this is the first time that I listen to something on this matter but focus on the family and been a part of my life for the past I think 10 years and part of my story is my 33-year-old daughter passed away from a dream, a brain tumor September 24, 2023, so her year is coming up and during that my marriage of 10 years spiraling down from a emotional mental and actual spiritual abuse just so many different mixtures of religion versus relationship and arguing over Catholicism and the Saints and and all the beautiful things that I had my own experience with and as I got married in 2014, my husband, just anyhow a couple years and I started seeing the signs of gaslighting and while my daughter was recovering from her craniotomy in 2022 and got married September 18, 2022 after that it was incredible, but it came back aggressively and attacked her spine and during that I had to Ask my husband to leave by calling the police and actually turning to rage myself because of the trauma that has came back into my life from a lot of things but right now I’m saying strong and the Lord and this has helped me tremendously and I’m gonna write a book here so I’m gonna stop and I just wanna say bless you thank you I’m gonna keep listeningand praying and hoping

What do I do if I have to live with the person that keeps hurting me? It’s not physical, but emotionally just over and over. They’ve apologized, but they continue hurting me. I can’t leave because of financial reasons and I feel so stuck and constantly surrounded by them really hurts. I try to forgive but it’s so hard to be around them and not be able to get away.
Our hearts go out to you as you experience this difficult time and relationship @muscle-mommy. Please be assured that we're here to come alongside you in any way we can. If you think it might be helpful, one of our counselors would be happy to talk things over with you.(at no cost to you) Please give us a call at 1-800-232-6459. In the meantime, our prayers are with you. -Luna H.
This interview was timely. My 8 year old great-nephew was severely burned in a recent accident. Is there a Christian children's book that desls with overcoming trauma that Focus on the Family could recommend?
A person who has been through trauma cannot understand, feel or empathize with anyone else's trauma. We will only know what we feel not what the other traumatized person feels. It is totally different for each individual person.
Perhaps don't try to understand another person's trauma but acknowledge that there are others who are also experiencing trauma. you can learn coping skills from each other and you are not alone ❤
@FOF tech... Why is the TRANSCRIPT not available? I've noticed this happening on the more recent interviews. If possible, please allow transcripts to be included with the interviews. Thanks!
Hello friend, Thank you for reaching out. The transcript is found on the side of the screen. Please reach back out if you are having issues finding it. Blessings, Ella L
When you talk about grief and how it shouldn’t last for years- I’m in a marriage where similar, but fresh traumas happen intermittently over a decade. Some are small traumatic moments and some are huge- I know I’m not just being sensitive. It has taken a long time for me to wake up that this is emotionally abusive. How do you address grief and forgiveness for ongoing trauma? I’m surrendering to the idea that I might “save” my family by leaving… which will be more trauma, this time to everyone 🫠 please pray for me. My ideal situation is a redeemed home- no more pain. But that’s not in my control 🤲 (please don’t comment and tell me definitively to leave or stay. This is confusing.) would love to know about the grief piece though!!! Is it normal and healthy for that to go on for a long time?
Hello @aneber1811 We are so sorry to hear about what your going through. Focus on the Family is dedicated to bringing healing and restoration to couples who are struggling in their marriage. But God's design for marriage never included abuse, violence or physical pain. Even emotional abuse can bruise a person’s heart, mind, and soul. If you are in an abusive relationship, go to a safe place and call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-7233 or visit them online at bit.ly/3NeJ7Nx. We also want you to know that we have licensed Christian counselors here who can offer prayer and guidance. Please know that we take abuse very seriously, and we're here for anyone who is being mistreated. We urge anyone in an abusive relationship to call 855-771-HELP (4357) to speak with a counselor and check out our Help for Abusive Relationships page at bit.ly/3oMInGg. We hope to hear from you soon. I understand that journaling is an important step in the healing process. However I’m stuck in doing this task because I don’t want to face the trauma. Do you have recommendations for overcoming this difficulty?

Wonder if intense trauma where you panic and don't know reality from non-reality over a period of days can cause brain tumour?
No, but a brain tumor can cause those symptoms.
Certainly causes brain dysfunction & noticeable changes in the brain circuitry. Look up Dr. Amen videos on that.
Would you be willing to reply to 1 question please?

Maybe you didn't need to forgive your father because of what you just said. You said his alcohol problems were brought on by his demons not yours.
