    Hi! I have the ASUS VivoBook Flip R518UA-DH51T 15.6". I’m trying to do a ram upgrade but wanted to make sure if it’s the same exact laptop you had before I open mine up. What would the max GB RAM and am I able to remove the Toshiba hard drive and install an SSD!

    I have the same laptop, and I was trying to see if I could reset the BIOS by removing the CMOS battery. But I have taken the whole thing apart and I can't seem to find it. Could you offer some guidance on where it may be?

    • @uFixTek
      @uFixTek  5 лет назад +1

      Mike Co this mobos dont use a cr2030 battery, they keep the config using the internal laptop battery.
      To reset bios do the following:
      1. Open the laptop.
      2. Disconnect the internal polymer battery.
      3. Plug in or press on on/off (power button) keep pressing for 30sec, this will make sure it will discharge all the capacitors on board.
      4. Plug back everything and done.
      For the step 3, dont use or plug in the charger

    Pero a mi me dio un problema con los pasos que tu hiciste, a la hora de ensamblar nuevamente, cuando presiono le botón de encendido se encienden las 3 luces led y el del botón de encendido, solo enciende, prende el ventilador y no da imagen ni nada, se reinicia, probé solo conectando el cargador y desconectando la batería, pero sin presionar el botón de encendido se prenden los 3 focos y solo se prende y se apaga no da imagen, ni nada, solo funciona el ventilador. podrías ayudarme en orientarme y decirme que pudiera ser?

      gracias por el apoyo, ntp no pasa nada, lo que esta pasando no esta detectando tu ram bien. abre y quita tu ram y vuelve a colocar de nuevo, y después de prender espera 15segundos,
      si esa no funciona, quita tu ram y intenta de prender sin tu ram extra que tienes, y si prendió apaga y coloca de nuevo el ram y va funcionar veras.

      claro que lo puedes mejorar mucho,
      paso uno te recomiendo quitar tu disco mecánico y comprar uno solido (ssd sata 2.5")
      amzn.to/34dLihx
      y puedes convertir tu disco mecánico a externo es una carcasa pones tu disco aya y ya se hace un disco externo y sacas tus archivos de ai luego y formateas para que se te quite archivos de sistema y queda limpio para tu uso:
      amzn.to/3geSxbv
      y si vas a usar lumion eso si requiere 16gb ram para que corra mejor. como solo tiene una ranura compra uno de 16gb.

    Thanks ++ Bro.
    Question re the Power Button... could a malfunction of this cause the laptop to spontaneously shut down, even when booted just to BIOS?
    Or is this more likely to be motherboard related?
    Thanks again!
    Michael

    • @uFixTek
      @uFixTek  4 года назад +1

      hi, very simple for the laptop to shutdown regarding the power B, you must know that the power button must be pressed for over 5 sec in order for the laptop or PC to shutdown "spontaneously " "hard shut down".
      so when you turn the laptop on and if after 5-6 sec the laptop still on and it didn't turn off then its not your power button, if its over 6sec then you may have a bad HDD or back ram chip (as they are soldered on board). if the laptop if entered to bios and it shouts down in there then you are in a trouble you have a component issue.
      i recommend to do the following,
      when you power on make sure you don't move the charger cable ,
      remove the hdd and enter bios, see if it shuts down.
      try using a different charger, it could be your charger(but then all depends if your battery if its not holding any charge) and you have a faulty charger then ya it should be your charger,
      power off connect the charger and let it charge and power on with battery see if it shuts down.
      let me know , good luck

      @@uFixTek I got it going again after disconnecting the battery. Must have short circuited it somehow. Whilst troubleshooting this I noticed that it will run continuously ie not shutting down at all, with the keyboard removed. I plan to give the inside of the keyboard a good vacuuming...ie could dust build up or some other internal keyboard problem cause the laptop to short circuit/shut down?
      Unfortunately I've damaged the black locking clips of the mouse/keyboard ribbon cables - any clues on what to do? They're so fragile...

    • @michaeldaly3166

      Update...got the touchpad ribbon cable connector clip back in place, with assistance of this video:
      ruclips.net/video/Sb8COGH5IRU/видео.html
      Needed a forceps and sharp needle to edge the tiny thing back in.

    • @uFixTek
      @uFixTek  4 года назад +2

      xSerchcresx sorry didn’t recall the back side m.2 slot. To just clarify: this are different: 1. Hdd sata ( its a mechanical hard drive with sata conector ). 2. ssd sata is a solid state with sata interface ( same conector as where you have you main hardrive). 3. M.2 slot is for m.2 ssd only , (m.2 ssd sata doesn’t exist) 4. Sata connectors hace reaches to the limit speed by ssd drives. So thats why they came up with m.2 slot as they use a pci express port. So the m.2 slot have a wide bandwidth for file transfer, if you put a m.2 ssd in that slot it will wor fine and it will only work to mas speed of you sata conector. BUT if you buy a NVME ssd you can plug it in there and the nvme ssd are 6x faster than m.2 ssd or sata sad drives. Therefore YES you can purchase an “m.2 ssd” or “nvme ssd” they both will work just fine only that nvme will be much faster.

      you have few options:
      you can keep your mechanical HDD as an extra storage,
      and install a M.2 ssd on the motherboard near the ram attached picture.
      or if you have the money go with m.2 nvme ssd , much faster than the normal m.2 ssd

      amzn.to/2Z29Wiy

      if you want only replace your mechanical HDD with ssd sata 2.5:

      i'm sorry but for some reason youtube comments algorithm, took your response and placed it in spam area, donno why!
      im glad that you got it resolved.
      regarding the battery its a easy fix.
      follow the following steps:
      open your device management drivers: by right clicking on your windows start then choose "Device manager"
      then you want to uninstall all and any driver that says A/c power by right clicking and click uninstall.
      as shown here:
      imgur.com/a/CxwtjVa
      The battery driver will be reinstalled automatically after the start. Then check if your battery is charging now.
      If the above didnt work follow this:
      -Shut down your laptop (ensure to save your work before shutting down).
      -Remove any peripheral devices connecting to your laptop, such as USB drive, Bluetooth.
      -Unplug the AC adapter charger from your laptop.
      -Press and hold down the power button for 60 seconds, then release. dont let go if the laptop powers on and anything just hold it 60sec
      -Re-plug the AC adapter/power charger to your laptop.
      -Power on your laptop as normal.
      should be charging and saying “plugged in, charging”
      if that didnt work do this:
      Switch to Full Capacity Mode Battery Health Charging
      Another possible solution for ASUS laptop “plugged in not charging” problem is to check your battery health mode and make sure to choose Full Capacity Mode (many thanks to our lovely users for the advice).
      ASUS laptops provide a feature named “ASUS Battery Health Charging”, and it pops up automatically in the very beginning after your OS is installed. And it offers three options for you to choose for your battery health:
      Full Capacity Mode: Your battery is charged to its full capacity.
      Balanced Mode: Your battery stops charging when the power is above 80% and re-charges when the power is below 78%.
      Maximum Lifespan Mode: Your battery stops charging when the power is above 60% and re-charges when the power is below 58%.
      So if your ASUS laptop is in Balanced Mode or Maximum Lifespan Mode, you’ll no doubt have the battery not charging problem. To fix it, follow these steps:
      1) Go to Taskbar > Show hidden icons at the bottom right corner.
      2) Click the battery health charging mode icon.
      3) In the popup window, select the first option: Full Capacity Mode. Then click OK to save.
      4) Restart your laptop.
