Honestly, this show is probably the one that's most faithful to the source material of all video game based shows from the 80's and 90's. Think about it, all they had to go on was the little information found in the game and the instruction manual. All the characters and creatures are mostly faithful to the designs seen in the manual, the sound effects are ripped straight from the game and the music is comprised of variations on tracks from the game as well. While the story lines are completely original, the show is established in the very first scene as a sequel to the game, rather than an adaptation of it.

@@_Lumiere_ I mean Link not taking no for an answer is just called sexual harassment. But Nice Guy TM Link is pretty funny.
Polygon did an article about the history of this show awhile back, which explains the dynamic between Link and Zelda and their personalities. Rather than simply recreating the video game, The Legend of Zelda’s writers positioned the show more as a mix of action, comedy, and drama, taking specific inspiration from Cybill Shepherd’s and Bruce Willis’ ’80s show Moonlighting. Writers wanted Zelda and Link’s relationship to mirror Shepherd’s and Willis’ rapport as Maddie and David on the detective show - the same angry sexual tension, but goofier and lighter for the kid-friendly cartoon TV show.
Because, you know, back in the 80s, we kids couldn't get enough of Bruce Willis and Cybill Shepherd...😂
To be fair, back in the 80s, most kids knew what TV sitcoms were about, and the writers just used that fact to give the characters an actually character.

FINALLY, I've been searching for months for reactors to watch this series again. It's only 12 episodes and a 20-minutes each. It's a fun ride down memory lane.
The Zelda shows were on Fridays and were everybody's favorite. It followed the "will they? won't they?" plot of Moonlighting, a super famous show at the time that launched Bruce Willis' career. Link was especially different in this show. He was the most skilled knight in the kingdom and he knew it, but he would often easily get manipulated by Zelda who he was madly in love with.
In some alternate universe, Link is voiced by Bruce Willis and he's bald.
No irony, no post irony, men and women working together to defeat the baddy, the baddy not being considered merely misunderstood 😊

Given Link's diatribe about how he used to be a wandering adventurer, this cartoon is clearly set post-game. Ganon's resurrection mechanic explains how he can be a continuing threat even after Link kills him.
I actually kinda like that. Too many movie interpretations of video games try to retell the game's story instead of continuing it. So of course they do a worse job than the original medium since the medium was integral to the story being told.
Link was so sassy That intro is 100% proof that America used to be a real country and not this soft as babyshit "idea"
You gotta appreciate that they used the actual Music and SFX tho.

Asmon is right, the show was one of the coolest things when it was on TV. I remember being at a bible camp, and they wanted all of us to draw what makes us happy. All the kids were drawing butterflies and rainbows, and I drew Link blowing away a skeleton. After seeing them all posted on the wall, I realized something was wrong with me. I was 6 years old.
Never change.
you were based
Nothing is or was wrong with you
You were the only normal one there
Since I'm getting so many positive replies, I'll expand the story a little.
So, my first day, I gave the registration lady the wrong name. It was the name of my friend Andrew. So all day I was wearing a name tag that said Andrew on it. I was also super ADHD as a kid, so I doubt anyone thought twice why they'd have to tell Andrew to settle down and it would take a moment for him to realize he was being talked to 😁 Overall I don't think I was scolded too many times, but it's still in the back of my mind I had to listen for my new name deliberately.
What I do remember for sure was acting like I didn't know how to spell my own name. I remember telling an adult I had to look at my own name tag to write my name correctly on the projects we were working on.
The best part is the next day when I got there for registration, the ladies were totally confused when I came clean. "So your name is [signa]-Andrew? Or is it Andrew-[Signa]?" I'm like, "no, it's just [Signa]. I basically lied" and they still didn't understand for another moment or two.
And to ruin my original story, I didn't exactly think there was something wrong with me, but I did see clearly that I misunderstood the assignment, and "what made me happy" was very different than normal. But back in the 90s, liking video games as much as I did was a bit abnormal anyway. That part was a lesson that took years to learn, because when video games are *that* cool, you want to tell everyone about them, and then they lose interest in whatever you're talking about because video games are for losers and children.
I swear, this was the most realistic and based Link that ever exist
(I also grew up watching the classic Mario show, but unfortunately the classic zelda show were special episodes and technically didn't have a full series but man it was funny asf, lol)
i like how ganon teleported there with the skeletons holding him up, but tried to Roach out rather than teleport back hahahahaha
Y’know what, this show sure predicted lots of modern mechanics from Breath of the Wild like Link wearing blue shirts (well, Wind Waker also has blue shirts…), looting enemies’ weapons, Zelda in leggings and high boots, Link able to parry projectiles and most importantly, using wacky physics to launch himself into the air for speed run BS!🤣

You know you have to hand it to them that regardless of how good or bad this show was, they actually made an effort to make a Zelda cartoon. With the exception of the Zelda cutscenes on CDI (if that even counts), it makes this cartoon look like a godsend in comparison. Anything else live-action has been fan-made; no official movie otherwise. For something that's been one of the greatest games ever made, Zelda seriously lacks any media besides its games (and perhaps that is for the best). They only had the original Zelda (maybe 2? as well) as any source material in making this show of an 8-bit game platform as it was. However, this cartoon actually did try to respect the source material recreating the game music, sound effects, items, monsters, etc. Ganon does seem like a viable threat, and the action sequences are actually well done.

The ninja turtles have been one of the best treated IPs tho. The 2003 series is very good, and the Nick series was pretty good too. Even rise of TMNT was great with excellent animation.

How did he not know of this legendary show?
Because he was born yet when it came out
well excuse me.
@@omensoffateThis show has always been an internet meme.
I thought this ran with the Mario cartoons too so no clue how he watched one as a kid and not the other.
Because saying he never heard of it will draw more viewers.
I give it 1 hour before Nintendo copy strike this video
Actually, it would be Cookie Jar who owns DIC who owns these cartoons but we'll see.
Hope I finish it if they did lol
Hi I'm from an hour later, you were wrong.
That'd mean that this would be canon. Please no...
@@JordanGenesisWildbrain owns a lot of Dic cartoons, and a lot of them are on RUclips. I think they own cookie jar.
There are about 50 episodes total, only about a dozen aired, but you can find the whole series online.
Captain N, Super Mario Bros, and The Legend of Zelda. I watched all of them.
7:00 Because it is normal.
This show IS normal.
That IS normal
Fuck I miss late 80s , early 90s cartoons. I remember waking up and watching he-man and tmnt before school. Before I walked to and from school up hill both ways. And it actually was. The school was up the hill from my house then I would usually go to my friends house after school till my mother came and got me after work and they lived above the school. I started walking by myself to school when I was around 6 or 7. No way in hell I'd let even my 8yo walk to school alone. Things were way different.
i still go to a website and watch good cartoons, works better than Nick or CN ever did.
Incredible World of DIC? Funny how they did get away with that.
Us 80s and 90s kids saw a lot of DIC.
was pronounced "Deek", but yeah, still funny. lol
Did an awesome job with Sailor Moon 🌙
A sophisticated cartoon from a more sophisticated time
The parody 'Legend of Neil' (which is now on the EffinFunny youtube channel) is definitely worth checking out if you haven't. Its from some of the same folks as 'the guild' and its hilarious
Zelda is kinda flakey in this she definitely treats link worse than he deserves all things considered
Nah, she knew her value and was dealing with him as a proven guard. He was definitely full of himself. Kind of wish they had given him more back story. Still a shame it only lasted one season.
@@clayton2847 This was a 90' cartoon loosely based on a game were the characters don't talk. There is no lore besides of what the game on the NES can show nor there is character development o backstory. They just used characters traits popular on the 90' when being "edgy" was a norm. The only exposure was link's monologue at the beginning. This is a post Legend of Zelda on the NES. Link defeated Ganon, keep the triforce and has to guard it in the castle.
How is she flakey when she was pretty solid in her treatment of him until the end? She made it clear she wasn't interested the whole time.
@@jessbellis9510 well there was the one time a different hero showed up and Zelda acted like link didn't exist until she needed saving and the other guy didn't want to get mud on his boots.
In this video: Asmongold discovers my childhood.. Now we sit and wait for him to discover the atrocity that was the Legend of Zelda CD-i..
He’ll certainly have something to compare it to as well since the show exists.
Asmon needs to use the "well excuuuse me, princess" into his regular vocabulary
my dad watched this with me and my brother, (Mario and Zelda) because he watched it as a kid. such a cool show, i'm so glad he shared it with me
I saw this in the 80s and 90s on tv. Cant believe you don't recall this old man xD Peak Nintendo popularity. Gameboy, NES and SNES times. Of course I outgrew my Nintendo phase for the much cooler SEGA Megadrive phase with MK I & II :) Also I love these little trips down memory lane. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE watch more. Most of it can be found on YT. Dungeons & Dragons (1983) Transformers (1984), a great time. Cartoons had a good message, children weren't treated like idiots. Themes like love, death, honesty, betrayal were commonplace.
Y'all loving the "well excuse me, princess" catchphrase when the real banger is
*HUH?*
every ten seconds.
“Oh boy, smooching time!”
When yesterday's trash tastes better than today's gourmet.
Fun fact: the movie Legend (1985) was the main Influence for Zelda NES
There are many different Legends, please watch the right one (Director's Cut)
Always thought the guy who played Mario was Ron Jeremy. Princess Zelda has the triforce of wisdom, Gannon has power, link has courage. I think that's what they meant by both which is all.
