My fondest memories of these was not in Washington DC but in New York City! in 1980 & 1981 New York City transit had tremendous then the new Grumman Flexible Buses. They were removed temporarily out of service. Now our city(NY) was on a Bus shortage. The solution: WASHINGTON D.C. to the rescue! Had spare early 1960's fleets drivers from NYCTA flew down to Washington Metrobus garage/ depot drove the fleets to New York City and placed them on many routes where the Grumann's were. I loved those Buses.(D.C) Thank you WASHINGTON DC for those Buses such a pleasure to ride them & experience them so positively. I miss these as well. The GRUMANNS return to service wasn't reliable. By 1984 with New York City Streets & roads messed up took its toll on the Buses many of them were retired out of the service & sold to other transit companies in The United States maybe Canada 🤔. They weren't bad Buses but our roads & streets were! Back to the Metro D.C. Buses as of this writing I have no scale models of this look in all gauges. Nice video & audio. 👍🚌
I inquired through DC Transit/Metrobus about purchasing retired coaches and was told they weren't for sale to the public. How do you inquire about purchasing retired buses?
Damn!!! These buses ran good wit WMATA for 35 years!!!"
